I woke up this morning craving for my favorite strawberry recipes so I think a trip to the local farmstand is going to be on my list for today. The only tough decision is should I get 1 flat or 2. 🙂
My number 1 all time favorite way to use strawberries is in this strawberry pudding cake recipe. The recipe for this cake came from an old neighbor of mine and this was the first year in 20+ years that I didn’t make it for my husband’s birthday {because I don’t have a working oven right now}.
The pudding in this cake makes it crazy moist and you can bet your bottom dollar that as soon as we get our new oven installed, I’ll be making this!
Coming in at #2 is my friend JJ’s strawberry sheet shortcake recipe. This really is the best strawberry shortcake recipe I’ve ever had or made or shared. It’s perfect and sometimes we eat it for dinner during the summer months.
Strawberry Basil Salsa.
Have you tried it before? The basil-strawberry combo is out of this world good. I like to serve it with thin tortilla chips or even on a toasted baguette lined with a wee bit of cream cheese. Strawberry basil salsa is one of my very favorite summer snacks during berry season.
Strawberry and Nutella Crepes w/ Bananas:
Repeat after me: these are a breakfast food, not a dessert. That’s how I justify eating so many in the morning!
Strawberry Muffins w/ Oatmeal Crumb Topping:
The oatmeal crumb topping gives this muffin a little crunchy kick on top. Perfect breakfast or brunch recipe.
Strawberry Bruschetta: If you love the salty/sweet combo, you absolutely have to try this bruschetta. It’s so simple and fresh and makes the perfect unexpected summer appetizer.
Strawberry Streusel Bread: If banana bread is overdone in your house, give this streusel bread a try. I promise you won’t regret it!
Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp: I brought one of these to a pot luck one year and it was gone within 5 minutes. I kid you not. Strawberries and rhubarb are a perfect combo!
Old Fashioned Strawberry Ice Cream: Going back to the basics is sometimes a great thing. Like in the case of this ice cream. It’s so creamy and chunky and awesome.
Strawberry blender ice cream is also a great, quick option.
And don’t forget jam! You’ve got to make a batch of classic strawberry jam this year.
I even have a recipe for strawberry freezer jam.
Summer. I love stopping by all the local farm stands to see what’s in season. And right now… It’s strawberries! Do you have a favorite recipe that uses strawberries you’d like to share? Let us know in the comments below. I love trying new recipes. 🙂
Have a great day everyone,
~Mavis
P.S. Did you know that Americans eat an average of three-and-a-half pounds of fresh strawberries each per year? Yes, yes they do! Check out my post on 10 Fun Facts About Strawberries to learn more cool stuff.

I’ve no idea if you can get them but we have French and german varieties here in Devon as well as English ones.
It’s worth tracking down some if you can.
The Devonshire banks are full of wild strawberries too, tiny tiny things, they look like food for fairies , intensely sweet.
Thanks always for the excellent recipes.
I’ve tried a homemade strawberry tower this year, made form old pallet wood, it’s just pots screwed to it on a cross cross base, it holds about 20 pots, it keep them a bit more away from rain but does need watering more often.
With our winters becoming much more mild , I think I may have red ones still in October.

Mavis, I want to know how you eat so much andstay slim, I managed it until I turned 55 and I still garden and am on the go all the time but one jar of jam lasts theh two of us six months, I can never eat a whole dessert unless it is a small creme brulee. Went to a very nice wine dinner at a local restaurant the other night and I not only bought home half my second course, 3/4’s of my main course but my whole dessert. It Made a full meal for the next night though I just added two baby carrots each and a few asparagus
. Nowadays if I get a prepared meal that says it serves one, it really serves both of us and if I am lucky I can add a half cup of salad and my HH will eat it but only if it is ceaser salad.

I would get two flats. Yes, I do love my strawberries! The cake looks so good!
Audra from Ohio says
2 flats is always the right answer 🙂

Two flats definitely.
My cousin told me our grandfather used to farm Marshall variety strawberries in the 1940s and that variety is super flavorful. Haven’t seen them for sale locally

I freeze my berries, crushed and sugared, to make my freezer jam in the winter. You know, when you don’t mind standing over a hot stove! I don’t have to measure or crush the berries in the winer, because I already did that. Just an idea for the
stoveless among us!
