Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
I am currently working through the long list of wool I need to dye before we can start taking out the lower kitchen cabinets. It’s a long list, but I’m still optimistic that I’ll be able to get all the dyeing finished before gardening season hits and things really start to get nuts around here.
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove {$9,753.25 of $22,000 earned so far}
I sold a few more of my “AGA” earmarked pieces this past week to add to my total, and now I’m working on my next batch of rugs and pillows to offer in early April. π So far I have 4 new pieces hooked.
Fill the Canning Cupboard {This is where the canning cupboard will go}
Hot dog! We got a call from the delivery people and my new canning cupboard will be arriving later this week. I am VERY excited about this. I ordered the cupboard back in October and well, I’m ready to start canning again!
Jams I’ve made to fill my canning cupboard so far: Ginger Pear Jam and Spiced Christmas Jam.
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I’ll be doing a bit of a beachy theme with my Etsy offerings next month so I think it will be a perfect time to introduce some of the treasures Lucy and I have found on our walks. I’m excited to see if I can sell enough driftwood, rocks and other beach finds to cover our grocery expenses this year.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables.
We are eating TONS of fruit and vegetables these days… in the form of PIE. π π π Forget Pi day, I think there needs to be a national PIE MONTH!
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room.
Well, while the crafts are out of the dining room, the kitchen table is now in the family room {with a big stack of wool bundles on it} so I can paint the ceiling in there and the HH can sand the floors.
We were supposed to get all that done last week, but we were so busy with other things, we didn’t get a chance to even patch the ceiling or the tiny picture frame holes in the hallway. π Fingers crossed we can get it done this week.
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup
We’ve only collected about 5 gallons of sap so far {that’s staying cool in the freezer} but I am hopeful we will get enough to at least get a half gallon of maple syrup by the time we are done with this little experiment.
On one of the days we collected sap, we collected 1 1/2 gallons! I about passed out. It was a sunny day and the daytime temps were in the mid 40’s and so I think that had a lot to do with it.
It’s supposed to warm up next week so hopefully we’ll be able to collect much more than we have been getting.
Make a Quilt Top
I made absoultly zero progress on my quilt top this past week. π
Be More Intentional With My Time
It was another week of getting up early, working hard and staying off the internet {as much as possible} and getting it done! It probably helped that I didn’t leave the house either.
1 Craft / Blog Free Day So far I’m 8 for 10 this year.
It didn’t happen this past week. It was kind of busy around here.
Keep My Husband Busy
Early spring {we’re almost there, right?} in New England is sort of funny. One day the snow is gone and the sun will be out and then wham… another storm comes in {like last night} and now the whole place is covered in a blanket of white again.
Fun Fact: You can hear the sap dripping into the metal buckets from the back porch. π How cool is that?
The HH’s Honey Do List {so far} for 2022
- Take over cooking {I’ll still do the baking and canning}
- Cut down the cluster of trees in the backyard

- Fill the field {with soil}
- Remodel 1 bathroom
Replace fireplace tile- Build window boxes for the front of the house
- Build an arbor for the wisteria

All I did this past week in the house projects department was find the blue tape.
Try 24 New Recipes {8 down, 16 to go}
I didn’t make any new recipes this past week but I did bake a loaf of our favorite Dutch Oven Crusty Bread and a loaf of Cinnamon Raisin Bread.
So far this year I have shared the following recipes:
- Hash Brown Waffles with Bacon and Cheese
- Bacon Cheddar Jalapeno Biscuits
- Apple Cinnamon Granola
- Mrs. C’s Slow Cooker Pot Roast
- Ginger Pear Jam
- Lentils with Carrots and Thyme
- Dutch Oven Cinnamon Raisin Bread
- Dutch Oven Olive and Rosemary Bread
Listen to 12 Audiobooks
I am currently listening to Salt to the Sea by Ruth Sepetys. And what a time to be lisenting to it. π
Audiobooks I’ve listened to this year:
- Dolly Parton, Songteller by Dolly Parton 10/10
- No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality by Michael J. Fox 10/10
- Night Road by Kristen Hannah on Audiobook. I’d give it a 9/10.
- Mill Town by Kerri Arsenault. Interesting. I’d give it a 8/10.
Get a Fishing License and Catch a Fish
The HH is in charge of procuring all the fishing gear. So you know, there’s lot’s of research to be done first. π
This time last year we had just placed our order for fence panels for the garden and the HH was grumbling about having to install them. Luckily though for the HH, I don’t have any major garden projects for him this year {well, except building an arbor, hauling dirt and doing some major prunning}. Lucky him! π

Have All My 2022 Ornaments Finished by April 1st.
I’m taking a break from ornaments right now and working on garden markers instead. So I’ve been keeping the kiln filled with those instead of ornaments lately.
52 Walks {We’ve gone on 2 of 52 so far}
We didn’t go walking this past week… I suspect though with the daytime temps on the rise now, we’ll be venturing out more.
Visit 12 Towns in Maine That I Haven’t Been to Before
So far we have visited the town of Hope Maine and checked out the General Store there.
After reading the book Mill Town though, the towns Mexico and Rumford Maine are on my list.
How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?

I got a late start yesterday because I’m seriously behind on sleep, but I got all the trim in the bathroom and nursery taped off yesterday (and I threw in the stair landing, the other bathroom, and a living room accent wall for kicks), so I just need to paint that trim today, and then I can start moving in furniture and decorating (which will get rid of the stuff currently piled in our guest room). I have a break from work this week (but several other chores and errands to do), so I might make the mobile this week if I have time.
I had originally planned to get our flooring replaced before finishing the nursery, but the timing seems to work better to finish the room first, so that’s the new plan. The only furniture I have left to order are a chair and dresser, and I’ll do that this week or next (once we get rid of the bed that’s currently in that room) and then start thinking about curtains, rugs, and decor.

Do you have the link to the Yankee magazine article? I’d love to read it. Have you considered making markers for flower gardens? Be sure to get a ‘lobster license’ when you get your fishing license. How cool will it be to post that you caught your own dinner. Not sure why you want to get rid of the copse of trees near the water’s edge. They provide habitat for birds and if you are thinking lots of bird houses and feeders then you need these trees for habitat.

I started my tomatoes yesterday, 9 different kinds 72 seeds. Last year they took 5 days to start sprouting so I am waiting to see if a warmer location changes that at all I will be seeding pee’s sometime this week to get an early start on them.
Mavis Butterfield says
I always have to start my peas indoors too. FOr some reason if I direct sow the birds pull them all up as soon as they sprout. π

I always enjoy reading your goals posts, Mavis! So inspiring. Also, although I love all of your primitive rug creations, that chicken pillow has to be my favorite. I know youβve made many others that are more elaborate and stunning, but thereβs something absolutely adorable about that henβs shape and head. Brava!

Hi Mavis, I would love to order a beach themed wind chime if you could make one.
