Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
All kitchen projects are on hold until the dishwasher, and oven are delivered. Which is a good thing… because I’m having too much fun playing in my new religious family sized garden plot to care about anything kitchen related. 🙂
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove {$12,777.50 of $22,000 earned so far}
I’m more than halfway there! Luckily the stove isn’t supposed to arrive until the end of summer so I still have plenty of time to hook and sell new pieces. 🙂
Fill the Canning Cupboard
Hopefully 120 days from now this sucker will be FULL of homemade goodness.
So far this year I have canned:
Not canned but in jars:
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I think I’ll just have to wait until things calm down before I list my beach finds.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables.
Working on it!
Yesterday I moved the cabbage, broccoli and Brussels sprouts from the lasagna garden over to the religious garden as the HH wants to work on leveling the field {the lasagna garden} area a bit more this summer.
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room.
This marks 3 straight weeks that the crafts have stayed out of the craft room. Shocking, I know!
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup {DONE}
It was a good experience, and we’re going to do it again next year {although I would like to find a few more trees to tap so our yield is a bit higher}.
Make a Quilt Top
I made zero progress on my quilt top this past week. But I have until the end of the year to complete this goal so I’m not too worried about it.
Be More Intentional With My Time
Garden by day, hook by night. That’s my summer routine. And I’m loving it. 🙂
1 Craft / Blog Free Day {I’ve had 17 craft/blog free days this year so far.}
Keep My Husband Busy
Our new batch of garden soil was delivered yesterday morning but because it had rained the night before, the ground was a soggy mess and so the HH didn’t want to ruin the grass by loading up 500 pounds of dirt in the bucket of the tractor and driving it over the grass.
So he started hauling wheelbarrow loads full of the soil down to the garden.
And then the handle on the wheelbarrow broke.
Mavis: But I just dug up the raspberry canes!!! Can’t you fix it?
HH: It’s a specific piece of wood! No, I can’t just go cut a piece of wood and attach it. I’ll have to go to the hardware store and get a new one tomorrow.
Mavis: But I need to get my raspberries in the ground today!!
Well, it took a little longer to haul the soil down to the garden… but he did it with 1 handle.
He loves me. 🙂

Visit 12 Towns in Maine That I Haven’t Been to Before
Washington, Maine! 🙂 What a fun little town. Now that the weather has warmed up, we’re looking forward to getting out more and exploring.
So far we’ve visited:
How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?
~Mavis
Christy says
Where did you get the “seed” box in the photo of the canning cupboard? What is it made out of? I’ve been looking for a better storage system for my seeds and wonder if this would work.
Mavis Butterfield says
It’s made by Burgon and Ball. I bought it at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh about 15 years ago.
Mel says
It’s not as chic as Mavis’s seed storage box, but I use a photo storage box similar to this one for seeds:
https://amzn.to/3MI95tm
The different colored containers are helpful for categorizing (e.g., red for tomatoes, green for greens, etc.), and I use a label maker to label them. If you have a lot of seed packets, it works well.
Rita says
How were you able to make the rhubarb jam without a working kitchen? You and your hh are amazing!
Mavis Butterfield says
A hot plate and the camp stove. 🙂
Diane says
Will you be running irrigation out to the large garden? Or run a hose to water occasionally in case of a long dry spell? Or just mulch it and let it in for itself?
Mavis Butterfield says
Diane,
It is a religious garden. I have faith the skies above will provide all the water it needs.
Jennifer says
HAHAHAHA!!! I was actually wondering the same thing. We live in CA where we NEVER get rain- I think our rain total this year was below 7 in. and we live on the coast. I can’t fathom not having a water supply, but I guess with all the glorious rain on the East Coast you can get away without it!
Pam F. says
As to that wheelbarrow, I think I’d drill some holes in the bottom, paint it and plant it. Strawberries would look nice. HH needs a new one.
Ruth says
If you are considering a new wheelbarrow, I highly recommend the Muller’s Smart Cart. https://youtu.be/EyWW-LozKus
It would make a fantastic Fathers Day present! I fell in love with the one my friend has and am saving up for my own. It turns a heavy job of hauling stuff into light work! The video shows a woman pushing it with one hand…that’s no exaggeration…
And it’s made in Maine (Gorham, I think).
Virginia says
Two things, Mavis. One, you’ve got nerves of steel gardening in a bright white shirt! And, two, were you able to adjust to the new progressive lenses? (I wasn’t able to tell if those are new glasses you’re wearing in the top photo.)
Lindsey says
The Little Wartime Library by Kate Thompson is also about a WWII London library, but it is the true story about a library bombed and re-established in a tube tunnel. Historical fiction, I love it.
Mavis Butterfield says
Thanks. I’ll put it on my list.
Chris B says
Did you hear the Peterborough Basket Company is closing after 168 years? It was on my list of places to visit after you posted about it. I might get there next month, but probably not. So sad another amazing business is going away.
Wendy Steele says
I’m so sad about hem closing. I bought one last laundry basket from them last week.
Mavis Butterfield says
That stinks! They make great baskets.
Patricia Hicks says
MYMacomber loom arrived from Beech Ridge Rd, York, Maine, been there a long while, visitors welcom. I shall never get up that way again.
