Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
Cabinet guy came out this past week and took the final measurements for the kitchen. We decided on the floating shelves we wanted {or rather I wanted… the HH is still a wee bit skeptical about the whole thing}.
1 long shelf above the stove and 2 on the side of the pantry. AND THAT’S IT!!! {The above photo is from the AGA Instagram page}
I wanted a light and open, clutter free kitchen with a big fat British stove and a large pantry. And so that’s what we’re going with. And I couldn’t be more excited!
The cabinets likely won’t be installed until September though, but that’s okay. As long as the kitchen is put back together again by the time we get our first snowfall… I’m good with it.
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove {$16,641.35 of $22,000 earned so far}
I listed some new pieces in my Etsy shop last night and I am happy to report that I am now 76% of the way to my goal!!!
Fill the Canning Cupboard
Last week I canned split pea and ham soup. This week I’m going to try another soup recipe. I’ll let you know how it goes. 🙂
So far this year I have canned:
- Cinnamon Rhubarb Jam
- Pickled Asparagus
- Ginger Pear Jam
- Spiced Christmas Jam
- Cranberry Sauce
- Split Pea and Ham Soup
Not canned but in jars:
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I think I’ll just have to wait until things calm down before I list my beach finds.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables.
Working on it. And also trying to figure out what we are going to do with 68 tomato plants once they start producing.
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room.
I made it 6 1/2 days without a bunch of stuff piled up on the dining room tables. And then I did an Etsy update. 😉 And ate a half a pint of ice cream while I was listing everything.
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup {DONE}
It was a good experience, and we’re going to do it again next year {although I would like to find a few more trees to tap so our yield is a bit higher}.
Make a Quilt Top
I pulled my quilt squares out this week. And then I put them back on the shelf.
Be More Intentional With My Time
Not a bad place to sit and watch the sunrise.
1 Craft / Blog Free Day {I’ve had 20 craft/blog free days this year so far.}
Keep My Husband Busy
The HH bought himself a super splitting axe so he can get to work as soon as our firewood arrives. He loves the axe and said he wished he would have bought one sooner.
Firewood guy is really backed up because everyone wants to load up on firewood this year {4 cords of wood cost the same right now as a 6 WEEK supply of heating oil} but we’re hoping we get our delivery of firewood in the next week or two.
The HH’s Honey Do List {so far} for 2022
- Take over cooking {I’ll still do the baking and canning}
Cut down the cluster of trees in the backyardDONE- Build a new set of stairs down to the water.
- Fill the field {with soil} Almost done!

Sand the floors in the entire houseDONE- Install new garage door openers {new addition}
- Build a wood shed {new addition}
My House Projects For This Year {so far}
All house projects are on hold right now as we finish up the 2nd garden space the HH created last week. I’m hoping that by Monday afternoon we will have moved all the garden soil down to that bed and the HH can till it up so I can get the rest of the squash and beans {and who knows what else} planted.
Things I need to get done this year:
- Finish painting the outside of the house
- Finish painting the inside of the house {working on it}
- Make something to hang above our new console table
- Make it look like people actually live here HA HA HA
- New window treatment for the kitchen window

Now that the weather has warmed up, we’re looking forward to getting out more and exploring.
So far we’ve visited:
How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?
~Mavis
Lisa Lu says
Hi Mavis! One thing I’ve been wondering about. What does the wool look like before you dye it?
Kim says
I’m wondering about a vent for your new stove. Not required?
That view………..Wowzer!
Kari says
I see some homemade bread recipes that you cook in your crockpot. Have you tried this? It may be a temporary solution to your “no oven” dilema.
Mavis Butterfield says
I haven’t tried bread in the Crock Pot yet. Do you have a link to a recipe you like?
Kari says
I haven’t, but I plan to try this one. It has good reviews. https://brooklynfarmgirl.com/2-hour-slow-cooker-bread/
Mavis Butterfield says
Let me know how it goes.
Diane says
Which varieties of pear and plum did you get? Do you plan on adding more fruit trees down the road? Apples?
Mavis Butterfield says
Red Bartlett and Luscious pear, Damson and Stanley for the plums trees. We might do apple and peach trees next year. 🙂
Karen says
Plum trees tend to cross pollinate so you may not be able to keep two distinct kinds of plums.
Laura says
A suggestion for extra tomatoes – donate to a local food pantry. Hoping we have lots extra this summer for our town pantry. Also hoping for extra peppers and basil. So far, 15 plants are growing….
Veronica says
We planted a new multi-variety apple tree this year and the instructions had us cut most of the branches off right after planting to help the tree establish a strong root system. Is that not necessary for pear and plum trees?
Sue S. says
What color is your new AGA? Boy they sure are beautiful. Did you have to reinforce the floor? Are you using propane or is there natural gas where you are?
GrannyB says
As for all the tomatoes you are going to be harvesting, maybe you can trade tomatoes to a few neighbors for the opportunity to tap their maple trees?? And then they also get a small bottle of syrup. Just an idea that can work for both parties.
Cat says
For the amount of wood you guys end up chopping, somewhere down the line it may be worth looking into a gas or electric log splitter. You load the wood and just move a handle up and down. Less strain on back muscles.
Mavis Butterfield says
Luckily the wood we ordered already comes split. He just needed an axe for the stuff he cut down this spring.
