Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
Well, we’re one week closer to getting a new kitchen. 🙂 Cabinet Guy will be out sometime in September with his crew and then a few weeks after that {hopefully} we’ll have a countertop and a working sink.
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove {$21,753.75 of $22,000 earned so far}
I sold a few more of my *new* finished pieces in my Etsy shop this past week and now I only need to sell $246.25 more in new pieces to reach my goal!!! I’m SO CLOSE! 🙂
Fill the Canning Cupboard
It’s filling up! One more row to go on the top shelf and then I can move onto shelf #2.
So far this year I have canned:
- Blueberry Lime Jam
- Strawberry Jam
- Cinnamon Rhubarb Jam
- Pickled Asparagus
- Ginger Pear Jam
- Spiced Christmas Jam
- Cranberry Sauce
- Split Pea and Ham Soup
- Beef Stew
Not canned, but in jars:
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I think I’ll just have to wait until things calm down before I list my beach finds.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables.
I think we’re just a few days away from picking our first cabbage this year from the garden. I think we’re going to make fried cabbage with bacon with the first one.
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room.
It was another successful week keeping my craft projects out of the dining room. 🙂
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup {DONE}
It was a good experience, and we’re going to do it again next year {although I would like to find a few more trees to tap so our yield is a bit higher}.
Make a Quilt Top
It’s official. There is actually dust collecting on top of my quilt squares. 🙁 Maybe I should just ask my friend Zoë if she would piece them all together for me. Gaaa.
But that would be cheating, right?
Be More Intentional With My Time
This past week was a bit of a bust. I wasted time on the internet, didn’t complete any new rugs, and can’t think of a single project I completed other than pulling weeds. Some weeks are like that I guess. Especially in summer.
1 Craft / Blog Free Day {I’ve had 24 craft/blog free days this year so far.}
Keep My Husband Busy
It was another busy week for the HH.
He installed spacers on his tractor {to make it more stable on hills I guess?} continued to stack wood, fired up the griddle and did all the usual stuff he does around here.
The HH’s Honey Do List {so far} for 2022

Build an arbor for the wisteria{We decided to move the wisteria to another location instead}- Order 4 cords of firewood by the end of May and stack them
in an artful way {like they did in the book Norwegian Wood}. Sand the floors in the entire houseDONE- Install new garage door openers {new addition}
My House Projects For This Year {so far}
I still need to paint the back of the house! But I’m spending so much time in the garden these days… I can’t seem to get anything else done.
Things I need to get done this year:
- Finish painting the outside of the house
- Finish painting the inside of the house
- Make something to hang above our new console table
- Make it look like people actually live here HA HA HA
- New window treatment for the kitchen window

Visit 12 Towns in Maine That I Haven’t Been to Before
Boothbay Harbor it’s my new favorite town. If you’re headed to Maine this summer put it on your list!
So far we’ve visited:
How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?
~Mavis

It is so fun to follow you as you complete your goals. Can’t wait to see the new kitchen and HH has done a fantastic job on the wood-stacking. I LOVE the “God Bless America” rug.
I continued to work in my garden. I picked 9 quarts of blueberries this week and there are still more to pick. I froze most of them, but did make a batch of jam. I also made strawberry freezer jam, dehydrated strawberries, squash, and have potatoes running now. Our black-eyed peas are about to be ready to pick and then that will be my big kitchen job. Then salsa. We got our first ripe tomatoes this morning!
This week’s goals: 1. Clean & organize my upright freezer. 2. Use up freezer odds and ends in meals this week. 3. Meet with my daughter to discuss wedding plans. 4. Make daily devotions a priority. 4. Walk at least 5 miles this week. 6. Pick blueberries & freeze. 7. Find a way to use up the eggs we have right now.
Diana says
I didn’t really set any garden harvest goals this year since I decided to experiment, but so far I’ve harvested almost 44 pounds of food! Crookneck squash, Butter dish squash, zucchini, San Marzano tomatoes, blueberries, blackberries (9lbs!), strawberries, plums, cukes, green beans, potatoes. Still lots on the plants. I kind of set a goal of 50 pounds once I got going, so we’ll see if I hit it (My garden is MUCH smaller than yours, lol).
Now that the ucky days of summer have hit (temps in the 90s and humidity in the 60+% range), my outdoor forays are limited to 6-9am. Even then I come in the house drenched. I really need to setup a drip irrigation system. That’s a goal for next year.
Most of my goals for this year were outdoor related, so they are now on hold til fall. I will be going to get my first pickup load of firewood this week or next, tho. I’ll need about 3 cords and that equates to 9 loads. I figure if I start now, I’ll have it done by October.
I really need to move someplace cooler, lol… Georgia is tough for a transplanted Yankee.

Everything ripened while we were on vacation, so since then I’ve been canning. Canned a batch of zucchini relish, and then some salsa. Froze green beans and wax beans. Made salsa Fresca with cherry tomatoes and froze a bunch of tomatoes to process/can for later. Earlier I pickled some dilly beans and some beets, made dill pickles and bread and butter pickles. You’ve inspired me, Mavis, to kick up my canning game. Except for the cucumbers and corn, the garden is winding down for the year. Gets too hot and dry here in August. August is for planning the fall/winter garden. You hook in the winter and I quilt or craft in late summer. Have one shade garden planted and that will take us into the fall. Garden on!

Mavis – call Zoe! In these crazy times give your focus to all the things that bring you joy.

KITCHEN GARDEN: The cilantro harvest has long been finished and what is left of them is now working on producing the seeds for next year (or this fall) and spice mixes. The lettuce bolted and I am allowing some of it to also to produce seed. The critters only allowed us to have a handful of strawberries this year. The swiss chard is finally large enough to begin harvesting. Borage is going gangbusters this year. Snow turnips are being harvested as yummy radishes and green onions as needed. COMMUNITY GARDEN: No harvesting yet in my 30′ x 30′ plot. Cukes are coming along so far with no disease. Tomatoes are struggling with early blight (no early blight with kitchen garden tomatoes). Peppers look fabulous.
Mavis, were you able to lock in your stove price or are you at risk of being hit with an inflation/gas surcharge? I’m just curious as I’ve always dreamed of having a specialty stove/oven.
Zoe says
That would definitely be cheating but I would still love to sew them together for you 🙂
Mavis Butterfield says
Ha! I just might.
Kippy says
Hope you do. My feeling is if you don’t really enjoy something, have other stuff you’d rather do and find someone who can do it gladly for you, ask Zoe to make the quilt top! I use the above logic to justify hiring someone to mow and edge our lawn.
Julia Park Tracey says
I 100% agree — if Zoe wants to piece it, let it go. You’ve been iffy about that quilt from the start. You did the fun part, which is picking out the colors. Pass it on and enjoy it without guilt!
Julia Park Tracey says
1. Something keeps nibbling at my strawberries but I have been freezing most of them. I cut off the nibbled part. These will end up in jam or smoothies. My raspberries are still going and I hope to have enough for a batch of raspberry jam. Blackberries are next — these I will need to forage. We have enjoyed basil and some lettuce bot nothing else so far from the garden (it was snowing the first week of May so we are still sprouting and growing here at 2500 feet.)
2. I am so, so impressed at your determination to get that Aga stove. I’ve always admired them but not with that price. I can’t believe you almost made it! Really awesome, Mavis. Just wow! And that baby blue color is divine.
3. My big goals around publishing my book are still not happening so I keep sending it out. That’s not only a goal but a bucket list item. Otherwise, my other goals are doing well — I’ve read 50-ish books so far and have been baking and buying myself flowers. The rest of my goals involve travel and so I’m looking forward to a big trip up the East Coast in October.
Karen says
Have you heard about publishing books on Amazon? They only print a book when an order comes in. I don’t know very much about the system, pros and cons, profit, etc, so ask someone who knows more.
Kari says
Successful people surround themselves with those who are strong in the areas in which you are the weakest. Together they get more done. Taking advantage of Zoe’s strengths is a good strategic move, and I’d do it in a heartbeat.

I saw an aga stove on market place… $6000 trying to post a picture. It’s in Pa
