Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
The electrician is planning on coming out this week to see what needs to be done so that’s a step in the right direction. Now the hard part; making sure we get all the outlets and plugs in the right spots {we’re having quite a few of them moved} and remember to do all the stuff we want done in the other rooms.
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove {$21,833.70 of $22,000 earned so far}
I didn’t sell any of my *new* finished pieces this past week {new pieces are marked with *** at the end of the listing} but I am planning on listing a few more pieces in my Etsy shop this coming Saturday {July 23rd} at 6pm so I hope that pushes me over the edge.
Fill the Canning Cupboard
This week I added raspberry blueberry jam and carrot cake jam to the canning cupboard. The top shelf was getting pretty weighed down though and so I had to move the jars of soup to the second level. 🙂
So far this year I have canned:
- Raspberry Blueberry Jam
- Carrot Cake Jam
- Strawberry Lemon Jam
- Blueberry Lime Jam
- Strawberry Jam
- Cinnamon Rhubarb Jam
- Pickled Asparagus
- Ginger Pear Jam
- Spiced Christmas Jam
- Cranberry Sauce
- Split Pea and Ham Soup
- Beef Stew
Not canned, but in jars:
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I think I’ll just have to wait until things calm down before I list my beach finds.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables.
This past week we’ve been eating fresh shelling peas from the garden.
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room.
With the exception of needing the table for about 30 minutes to stack and fold wool, it was another successful week keeping my craft projects out of the dining room.
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup {DONE}
It was a good experience, and we’re going to do it again next year {although I would like to find a few more trees to tap so our yield is a bit higher}.
Make a Quilt Top
I need help! If I want to make a quilt that is 90″ x 90″ and my quilt squares are 2 1/2″ how many quilt squares will I need to cut out? Are there any quilters out there? Does anyone know?
Be More Intentional With My Time
Sweet Lucy. She loves being on the water.
1 Craft / Blog Free Day {I’ve had 26 craft/blog free days this year so far.}
Turning off the computer for the day is much easier to do in the summer than the winter, that’s for sure.
Keep My Husband Busy
It wasn’t on the list, but the HH bought a new mailbox and built a stand for it. And he even painted it white! Which got me thinking… maybe I should have him finish painting outside of the house. 🙂 I think he’d be great at it, don’t you?

How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?
~Mavis
Kim says
Can your HH reinforce your canning cabinet?
Or, will you need an additional place?
Your gardening success is phenomenal!
Toni Harper says
Squares will finish at 2″ (if 1/4″ seams). 45×45=2025 squares.
Virginia says
I’m not a quilter, but that was my calculation as well (considering the same 1/4” seams).
Mavis Butterfield says
Thank you!!
Karen says
If the small squares are too overwhelming, consider adding some larger squares to make a more interesting pattern. It might speed up the sewing, too. Good Luck!
Cecile says
Making strips with the 2.5″ blocks to sew around white 4.5″ blocks would make cutting the white go faster and sewing the quilt faster. Or you could do 8 patch blocks and make your white blocks 8″. When you said you wanted to do 2.5″ sq for your first quilt I thought, oh no!!
Vicki says
This is correct. You will need 2025 – 2 1/2 ” squares. Quilts are sewn with a scant 1/4 ” seam.
Heather says
Yup, I came up with that answer.
Stephanie Z says
All that space – a woodburning pizza oven would be a wonderful addition. You can roast meats, bake bread and you already have the firewood. I speak from experience.
Sherry says
Mavis, I am being nosey, and would like to know, what is in the jars next to the basket on the very top of the cabinet?
Margo says
Love your cabinet of lovely canned goods. My canned goods are on shelves with a small lip in the front of the shelf. We get earthquakes once in a while, so I’m hoping my glass canning jars will be safer. Most of the fall garden won’t go in until late August or September. Getting ready to pull most of the tomato plants this week. Canned 5 pints of tomato sauce yesterday and have tons of cherry tomatoes in the freezer still. We will have salad and slicers for a week or two more. I usually take August off from gardening and enjoy other projects for a while. Happy gardening!
Judybee says
I’m assuming that is salt water in your backyard. If so, I have always used lures or small fish for fishing in salt water. When fishing in fresh water I use worms or lures. You may want to research this for your area.
Kathy Brown says
You’ll need 2,025 quilt squares. 45 rows, 45 squares in each row.
Tonya says
Mavis, you and the other quilters are so brave. The thought of sewing up 2,025 squares makes me feel very, very anxious and overwhelmed.
Good luck!.
Deborah says
The quilt will be beautiful!
Nancy D says
LOVE the finished rug with the flag that you are holding in the photo! You’re a gifted artistic person! AND you have the discipline to see your projects through to completion!!! Beautiful!
Christie says
I love the new rug!
Jen says
Hey Mavis, I am a pretty new quilter, but a tool has really helped so I wanted to share with you. I use a stripology ruler for quick and accurate cutting. I have no association with them , but considering that you have over 2000 squares to cut, it may make your project much more manageable! Cheers!
