Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
Our January project will be removing the awkward kitchen island, the pantry and patching and sanding the wall. And while that might seem a little premature, I figure it will give us time to visualize exactly where we want everything to go on that side of the kitchen.
I seem to work better with a blank slate. And if that means living with a torn up kitchen for a few extra months, so be it. I know it will be worth it in the end so I’m not worried about it one bit.
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove {$4764.45 of $22,000 earned so far}
I didn’t sell a single “new” finished rug hooking piece this past week and that’s okay, I had 2 very good weeks and I am busy hooking away at my new batch of finished pieces that I’ll share on Etsy on February, 5th at 6pm.
So far I have hooked 7 new pieces {2 of which will be new patterns/kits for my next listing update.
Fill the Canning Cupboard {This is where the canning cupboard will go}
The cupboard isn’t supposed to arrive until spring, but that’s not going to keep me for working on filling it. Jams I’ve made to fill my canning cupboard so far: Ginger Pear Jam and Spiced Christmas Jam.
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I haven’t actually listed them yet, but I plan on selling rocks, shells, driftwood and a few other found treasures to pay for my groceries this year. I think it will be fun to see not only what sells, but see where the people buying the beach treasures are from.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
I did a pretty good job on eating fruits and veggies this week. Mostly brussels sprouts, dried apricots, frozen peas and canned peaches.
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room!
I was able to keep the crafts out of the craft room 3 out of 7 days last week. But hey, At least I got a bunch of wool dyed and bundled up. š
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup
No tapping going on this month… but we should probably make plans to go to Hussey’s General Store soon and get our tapping supplies.
Make a Quilt Top
Yesterday I went to lay out my fabric to cut it and then somehow got distracted and by the time I realized I was supposed to have spent 1 hour yesterday cutting out quilt squares it was dark and I was working on something else, that well, it didn’t get done.
Today though… I’ll work for 1 hour on cutting quilt squares today.
Also, I decided the darker pieces on the bottom row are just too dark and so I don’t think I’ll use them in the quilt.
Be More Intentional With My Time
After a 14 day stint at home {it just sort of happened} The Girl came for a visit and we went out exploring, watched movies, sipped tea and worked on crafty stuff. It was a good visit.
1 Craft / Blog Free Day
The HH and I came up with a plan… Basically check out early on Saturdays and then take Sunday’s off from any sort of household or craft type work projects.
So far so good.
And while I don’t consider that quilt I want to make a “work” project, I know it will be a bit of a chore and so I am limiting the time I spend on it to 1 hour at a time.
Keep My Husband Busy
I kept him busy this week running errands, talking to appliance people, stacking firewood, cutting wool, and making plans to dismantle the kitchen island and pantry. No major projects yet though.
The HH’s Honey Do List {so far} for 2022
- Take over cooking {I’ll still do the baking and canning}
- Cut down the cluster of trees in the backyard
- Build a new set of stairs down to the water.
- Fill the field {with soil}
- Remodel 1 bathroom
- Build window boxes for the front of the house
- Build an arbor for the wisteria
- Order 4 cords of firewood by the end of May and stack them in an artful way {like they did in the book Norwegian Wood}.
My House Projects For This Year {so far}
- Finish painting the outside of the house
- Finish painting the inside of the house
- Make something to hang above our new console table
- Make it look like people actually live here HA HA HA
- New window treatment for the kitchen window
Try 24 New Recipes {3 down, 21 to go}
Last week we enjoyed lentils with carrots and thyme.
Other recipes I’ve tried this year:
Listen to 12 Audiobooks
I finished listening to Night Road by Kristen Hannah on Audiobook. I’d give it a 9/10.
Get a Fishing License and Catch a Fish
The HH is in charge of procuring all the fishing gear. So you know, there’s lot’s of research to be done first. š
I am currently in the hole $27.94 for this years garden
Luckily it’s still a frozen tundra out there and so I get to stay inside where it’s nice and warm and bug free for a little while longer.
My List of Garden Projects For This Year I want to Accomplish
- Map out this year’s garden by April 1st
- Plant apple or pear trees
- Plant raspberry and blueberry bushes
- Plant asparagus and rhubarb
- Grow 500 pounds of food
- Expand the lasagna garden
- Finish clearing the front of the property
- Get some garden pots for the front an back patio/porches
Create 12 New Rug Hooking Patterns and/or Kits
The plan is to create at least 1 new pattern each month. In January, I added 3 new patterns/kits to my Etsy shop:
Have All My 2022 Ornaments Finished by April 1st.
I didn’t get a chance to work on any ornaments last week but chickens are on my to-do list for this week.
52 Walks {We’ve gone on 1 of 51 so far}
When the temps are in the teens, it’s hard to get get outside and walk and really, who want’s to breath in all that chilly air and freeze their fingers off, not me!
So our walks are on hold for a wee bit.
Visit 12 Towns in Maine That I Haven’t Been to Before
So far we have visited the town of Hope Maine and checked out the General Store there. š
How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?

There is some environmental research that says it’s best to leave nature alone in it’s habitat–to leave the shells, rocks, drift wood where it lands as it’s an important part of the ecosystem for all the living things. I was surprised that humans are not even supposed to stack rocks (a favorite activity on hikes in Sedona). Just a thought.

Yes, here in South Carolina the baby oysters seek out the old shells to live on. So because people are now taking their oyster shells to the landfill, they do not get tossed back on the banks where the oysters were. They are doing recycling in several areas to collect the shells so they can be dumped back into the water. I did not realize that mattered.

I was thinking about your leave the crafts in the craft room challenge. What draws you to the dinning room? The light? The big table? Feeling less closed in because it is a more open room?
Maybe if you can pinpoint why you like to craft there you can change the craft room to meet that need. Or it might be somwthing you cant change about the craft room and the, you just need to shift away from no crafts in the dinning room to ‘I will pick up any crafts in the dinning room by 4 pm’ (or what ever parameters make the most sense for you).
Just an idea.
Love following along with your goals!

The bare table. š
I have a huge craft room… with 3 large tables and a bunch of storage areas… but it is bursting at the seams right now because it’s winter and I am on “inside work” mode right now. By gardening season it won’t be a problem.

When you map out the garden , please share your works. As I wrote I want to till up my first garden at our new house and I want to draw up plans for it. Just not sure what that will entail. Sunday is a good day to take a rest. š Seashore galore items will definitely be interesting. Enjoy the day! š

You have so many wonderful goals! I love all the pictures; your home seems so cozy and productive. š
I’m doing well on my list of goals so far. I’ve read ten books out of the hundred I want to read for the year. I’m four chapters into the Hebrew book I’m studying, and I’m making excellent progress on my grandmother’s cross-stitch project. I haven’t had a chance to work on the French book I’m reading this week, but I’m aiming to do that this afternoon. I’m working on a knitting project, but as it’s for a memory blanket for the children of a friend who recently died, I’m not going to count that in my goal to knit something this year.
The year is still young! š

I still can’t really do much in our nursery space (waiting on flooring to paint, decorate, add furniture, etc.), but I’ve started ordering a bit of the furniture each week to hopefully avoid significant supply or delivery issues. It will be a real pain to have to store everything in the meantime, but I think it’s probably the best approach at this point. Last week I ordered book ledges for a wall, and this week I’m ordering a toy bench. I think next week will either be shelves or the crib.

Such an exciting and happy time for you!

*What Carrie said is more eloquently stated than what I tried to write last week. š
My progress on goals:
Work
Get there early and stay focused so I only have to work 7-4–not quite getting there by 7….yet–getting to sleep on time and waking up early enough has been a struggle. Also bringing work home….but not doing much of it…so…somewhat successful? ha ha
House
:15 daily tidy; Cleaning Plan–nope. Yuck. Decided will make and begin plan during Spring Break–making a deadline will be helpful!
Health
1,000 miles run/walk–am on target for this month
Floss–yea! Starting to become a habit!
Lose 15 pounds–one down
More Veggies and H2O–lots of work to do here–ice machine at work no longer making ice–grrrrrrrr
Sleep 10-6; AM–need to be more dedicated about starting the nighttime routine earlier
Stretch/Core work in the morning–yea! has been my favorite goal so far–gets my warm and pumped for day and kinks get worked out quickly!
Weight-lifting Plan–think I will let DH know he has until Pres Day to get me a list of lifts–again, deadlines are good
Happiness
Great Polar Bear Challenge–January 1, 2021 ice cold plunge for Make-a-Wish–will drop this off my list until November
“Keep the Fun”–hmmmmm–hard to do when avoiding people and public places–need to dance more as I’m working, I guess…
Delete It (emails, photos, junk)–got work email down to under 700 (from well over 1000)
Credit Debt–decrease 1 credit card down by half–I can only do this once a month, so will drop this off my list until last week of the month
2 Reading Challenges–library–finishing 3rd this weeknd; school–finishing 5th
Overall–pretty satisfied–but lots more intentional work to do

Mavis,
It is National Pie Day! š Thinking of you and your love of pie for any meal. Have a great day!

Actually doing really well on the goals this year, not sure why but I will take it. Menu planning, drinking water, blog writing, even a clean kitchen before bed. Hope that I am able to keep this up . Thinking if I keep meeting the clean kitchen goal of maybe adding another goal to the list.

It’s brilliant that you’re making a clean slate to envision your new kitchen. Your HH is so handy and the kitchen is smaller have you thought about using a cabinet co. and installing your own. I used https://www.barkercabinets.com/. You can order any hight/width or depth within 1/4″ increments. We did the pure white shaker with all the bells and whistles and love them. I assembled and installed them myself at 60 and it was super simple.

I should add that you can get different toe kick styles if your after that English look.

Mavis, I have never hooked a rug but would like to add that to my bucket list. HOW in the world do you get that wide wool through that tiny mesh? I have tried to examine your works in progress but I guess I would need to see how you pull it through! Someday I plan to buy a beginner kit and make!
Patti says
My bare minimum goals are to read, knit, sew, work on projects around the house, and work on my parents’ estates. ( I keep this list in my daily planner/calendar) I also have more listed in my journal but won’t go into all that detail here. I have read two books this month and started the third. I am knitting a Christmas stocking and have reached the heel. I have sewn on an apron I started before Christmas – slow going but I only set up my machine once a week. I am having a circle meeting with 12 people on Tuesday and my Bunko group (also 12 people) next Sunday so all of my house projects have been to clean up for that and make the food. It is our first time getting together due to pandemic. I finally have my first appointment (by Zoom) about my parents’ estates so I had to scan and send a ton of files. Did one thing a day until it was all done. We have had two winter snow storms this week so it has actually been a nice, slow-paced week spent mainly inside. We did cook a little bit more – made soups, beans, and breads. I enjoy reading your Sunday posts as this has made me be much more intentional in my own life.

Just my opinion, but I’d leave the dark fabrics. They’ll make a nice contrast in your quilt. All your choices are beautiful!
Tamara says
Yes. The dark patches (even in life) make the light ones stand out even more.
Diana says
I didn’t make any progress towards any current goals, but I did add another one, lol.
A couple of years ago, I bought a sampler box of 28 different loose teas. Hadn’t touched many of them since. I’ve had 6 of them so far this month and intend to finish the box by the end of March. Of the 6, 2 didn’t make my heart go pitty pat, but the others are worth repurchasing. My favorite is the raspberry. Clean, crisp flavor. No bitterness or other flavors added. It will be wonderful as an iced tea this summer. YUM! (Brand is Teaforte).
