Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
The new faucet arrived in record time and the electrician made it out last week as well. He took a look at everything that needed to be done and said he’d be out in about 2 weeks to get it all done.
Once he’s done with his part we’ll be able to finish the kitchen demo, patch up the walls and paint. Then, sometime in September the cabinet guys will install their bit. Exciting!
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove DONE!!!
Well I did it!!! I finally hit my goal of selling enough of my 2022 hooked rugs and pillows in my Etsy shop to pay for my new Duck Egg Blue AGA cooker.
Now I’ve shifted to saving up for a “research trip” to England to find the perfect scone {so I can duplicate it in my new oven}. Because seriously, life would be boring without goals.
Fill the Canning Cupboard
I made a batch of peach jam this week to add to the canning cupboard. I think I have enough jam now to get us through the winter. 🙂
So far this year I have canned:
- Raspberry Blueberry Jam
- Carrot Cake Jam
- Strawberry Lemon Jam
- Blueberry Lime Jam
- Strawberry Jam
- Cinnamon Rhubarb Jam
- Pickled Asparagus
- Ginger Pear Jam
- Spiced Christmas Jam
- Cranberry Sauce
- Split Pea and Ham Soup
- Beef Stew
Not canned, but in jars:
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I’ve decided to wait until fall to list my beach finds.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables.
This past week is was super easy to fill our plates with fresh fruits and vegetables thanks to our garden and The Duck Lady’s cast offs.
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room.
It wasn’t a good week for keeping the crafts out of the dining room. I dyed a bunch of wool {that still needs to be stacked and folded} and now have some mini ornaments on the table waiting to be painted. 🙂
Why is it that I always seem to gravitate to working at the kitchen table? Maybe because it’s in a spot where I can keep an eye on everything? I don’t know.
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup {DONE}
It was a good experience, and we’re going to do it again next year {although I would like to find a few more trees to tap so our yield is a bit higher}.
Make a Quilt Top
No progress on the quilt. I still need to finish counting squares {and cutting out white ones}.
Be More Intentional With My Time
Met up with our old neighbors for brunch. It was nice to catch up.
1 Craft / Blog Free Day {I’ve had 28 craft/blog free days this year so far.}
Yesterday I got up and headed out early with The Duck Lady to help Kiln Guy {who’s real occupation is/was a caterer} to help out at an island wedding. It was a long day and I totally fell into bed when I got home last night just before midnight, but it was interesting and a lot of fun too.
Keep My Husband Busy
The HH replaced the old can lights in the kitchen with retrofitted LED lights and let’s just say they look a lot better than the old ones.
And while can lights wouldn’t be my first choice for overhead lighting, it’s what we have and neither of us have any interest in having the ceiling torn up {and patched and painted} to have them replaced throughout the house.
At least with the new, updated lights, we aren’t looking at giant holes in the ceiling with an ugly flood light sticking out.

Get a Fishing License and Catch a Fish
The HH tried out his new pole on the dock, but so far no fish. Maybe I need to take him out on the water and show him how it’s done. 😉 After all, pretty much every summer of my childhood was spent on a boat crabbing, clamming and fishing.

Visit 12 Towns in Maine That I Haven’t Been to Before
Yesterday I went to a new island I’d never been to before. And it just reinforced the fact that I would LOVE to live on an island some day. 🙂 My poor husband. Ha!
So far we’ve visited:
How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?
~Mavis
PD says
Re books about Maine: Not sure if you’re familiar with the Moosepath League series by Van Reid, but it is set in coastal Maine (and author lives in Maine). I’ve only read the first book, but I know others who have enjoyed the full series.
Peg says
I’ve never been a goal setter. Maybe it’s time to change that.
Jennifer B says
Ooh, retrofitted LED can lights just might need to be added to my list. We have 20+ in our house. I’m mostly ok with them but led’s would definitely update the look!
Also, after reading your blog through Feedly for years, suddenly your posts aren’t coming through. Last post that Feedly picked up was 5 days ago. I’m remembering to come to your website daily so far but I miss having your posts automatically come to me like the others I follow do!
Mavis Butterfield says
That’s so weird. I wonder why. Hmm. I’ll have to see if I can figure it out.
Erin says
I was just getting on here to say the same thing about Feedly! The last post I received in my feed is the air fryer bread. I deleted the feed & added it again, but that didn’t help. Thanks for looking into it, Mavis!
Jennifer B says
My last blog post in Feedly was the blueberry recipes one day later, not sure why it’s different!
Tammy says
Hi Mavis! I use Feedly and the last post of yours that posted to Feedly was your air fryer bread post.
Diane says
Mavis, could you please put the running total pounds of food so we can see how close you get every week? The way you did for the Etsy sales going towards your oven? I think you may hit 500 pounds just with the tomatoes because you have so many tomato plants!!
Diane says
Also regarding the food goal, could you possibly include the number of plants for each kind? It would be helpful for people like me to see how many cucumbers plants produce the number of pounds of cukes, etc. so we might use that information to plan our own gardens. Thank you!
Claudia says
YouTuber Michael at Doing it ourselves makes scones in his aga.
Bernice says
Where did you get your pantry cupboard for your canned goods? It looks perfect for canned goods.
Laura says
I don’t believe you have cable but the Magnolia Network has a show called ‘For the Love of Kitchens’ which is all about Paul and Helen from deVol Kitchens Their attention to detail is unmatched. On one episode they feature the process to handmake brass light switches. Their blog gives some info on how to watch the episodes if you are interested!

Gail says
Mavis maybe you should go to Scone Scotland to start the search for the perfect scone.
Torry says
I added the amounts and came up with 33 pounds and 5 oz. (Because I wanted to know.)
Mavis Butterfield says
Awesome! Thanks Torry.
Jessica says
I have installed LED to replace old lights from the 1960’s house I live in. I LOVE them! Consider having a dimmer on the lights. So nice to control the amount of light.
Molly says
My parents live on Peaks Island and I can tell you all about island living in Maine if you are interested. I could even take you there if you’ve never been.
Mavis Butterfield says
We’ve been to Peak’s Island! It’s super cute and calm and we had a good time. 🙂
Patti Ladd says
This island actually has my name on it–Pladda Island. I would buy it in a heartbeat if I only had the money.
