Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
The electrician came a few days ago and finished up his work in the kitchen {hooray!}.
The next step is to have the HH repair all the holes {drywall, tape, mud} and to remove the wood backsplash along the back of {what’s left of} the counters and get it ready for me to paint.
Once that’s all done, then we’ll be ready for the cabinet guys who should be here sometime in September. Well, actually the HH will still need to remove the remaining countertops and the sink… but we are going to wait until the last possible second to do that.
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove DONE!!!
Well I did it!!! I finally hit my goal of selling enough of my 2022 hooked rugs and pillows in my Etsy shop to pay for my new Duck Egg Blue AGA cooker.
I’ve now shifted to saving up for a “research trip” to England to find the perfect scone {so I can duplicate it in my new oven}. Maybe marmalade too. 😉 This winter is going to be a tasty one filled with lots of experiments, that’s for sure. 😉
Fill the Canning Cupboard
This past week I made 2 batches of salsa for the pantry {18 jars} and I have plans to make 1 more batch before moving on to other tomato things. 🙂 Also I still need to can some carrots in the pressure canner.
The canning cupboard is filling up and I suspect that in another week or two I will have shelf #2 filled. Yee-Haw.
So far this year I have canned:
- Raspberry Blueberry Jam
- Carrot Cake Jam
- Strawberry Lemon Jam
- Blueberry Lime Jam
- Strawberry Jam
- Cinnamon Rhubarb Jam
- Pickled Asparagus
- Ginger Pear Jam
- Spiced Christmas Jam
- Cranberry Sauce
- Split Pea and Ham Soup
- Beef Stew
- Zucchini Relish
- Heirloom Tomato Salsa
Not canned, but in jars:
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I’ve decided to wait until fall to list my beach finds. I know this is cutting my selling season a bit short, but with so many other things going on right now, I just don’t have the time to add another thing to my to-do list.
Gaa. I wish there was a switch I could flip that would add another 4 hours to my day sometimes.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables.
I LOVE this time of year! With so many beautiful vegetables coming into the garden it can be hard sometimes to stay focused and remember that we need to PRESERVE as much as we can so that we can make the season last a little longer.
After all, the reason we’re growing so much this year is to help reduce the money we’ll need to spend on fruits and vegetables throughout the long and cold winter months.
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room.
This past week was not a good one for keeping the crafts out of the craft room. I was working on a big rug hooking project and needed the space.
I need to reorganize the basement again to maximize the storage space down there.
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup {DONE}
It was a good experience, and we’re going to do it again next year {although I would like to find a few more trees to tap so our yield is a bit higher}.
Make a Quilt Top
I still have 4 1/2 months to get this goal checked off my list. I still have 4 1/2 months to get this goal checked off my list. I still have 4 1/2 months to get this goal checked off my list. At least that’s what I keep telling myself.
Be More Intentional With My Time
Have I told you how much I love it here? I never want to move. {Unless of course it’s to my own private island.}
1 Craft / Blog Free Day {I’ve had 30 craft/blog free days this year so far.}
I woke up on Thursday morning and had so much to do, I decided to unplug for the day. It was LOVELY. 🙂
Keep My Husband Busy
There are currently 6 holes in the walls of the kitchen waiting for the HH to repair them. And while he did purchase some supplies yesterday to patch the walls, he said he needs to “research” how to do it first.
{Wouldn’t you do that BEFORE buying supplies so you wouldn’t have to make a second trip to the home improvement store!?}
The HH’s Honey Do List {so far} for 2022
- Take over cooking {I’ll still do the baking and canning}
Cut down the cluster of trees in the backyardDONE- Build a new set of stairs down to the water.
Fill the field {with soil}- Remodel 1 bathroom
Replace fireplace tile- Build window boxes for the front of the house
Build an arbor for the wisteria{We decided to move the wisteria to another location instead}Order 4 cords of firewood by the end of May and stack themDONESand the floors in the entire houseDONE- Install new garage door openers {new addition}
My House Projects For This Year {so far}
The window covering I ordered for the kitchen window won’t be here until probably September, so that gives me plenty of time to have the HH take down the old blind in the kitchen so I can get the window trim painted.
Also, I am currently waiting for the weather to cool down so I can have the HH take over the outside painting that I was supposed to do this summer.
Things I need to get done this year:
- Finish painting the outside of the house
- Finish painting the inside of the house
- Make something to hang above our new console table
- Make it look like people actually live here {working on it!}
- New window treatment for the kitchen window {ordered!}

Visit 12 Towns in Maine That I Haven’t Been to Before
So far we’ve visited:
How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?
~Mavis
Katie C says
I always love reading your accomplishments. It has really changed the way I create my own goals and helps to keep me motivated, so thank you for sharing!
My HH and I can’t get away with going to the hardware store less than 3 times per project, so it seems like your HH is right on track with filling the holes in the kitchen, haha! Someone told me that 3 times per project “rule” when we bought our first home and all these years later, that darn rule has held true, lol
Pam F. says
So six jars of salsa to The Girl and ? jars to Monkey Boy, good thing you’re making another batch.
Can’t wait to see the new garden pots you picked out for your front and back porches.
How are the fruit trees doing? I have a peach that I culled twice, should have culled it three or four times more. It’s loaded.
Mavis Butterfield says
No fruit this year but they are all still alive so that’s good! 🙂
Also, I think I’m going to need to make a 4th batch of salsa. The HH can’t get enough of it!
RobininSoCal says
Your canning list reminded me to go get fresh strawberries to make your Christmas jam now while they are plentiful and in season. Thanks, I know Christmas will be upon me before I know it. 🙂
Mavis Butterfield says
I LOVE the Christmas jam!!

Any thoughts about storing home-canned goods exposed to daylight vs. dark? I’m doing more canning this year and have placed my jars on shelves behind glass (because I like looking at the fruits of my labor!) but have read it’s better to store them in a dark place. I’m wondering if I need a new storage plan. ???
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes it is better to store canned goods in a cool dark place. But I too like looking at all my hard work and since I know we’ll be eating everything soon enough, I’m not worried about it. 🙂
Mimi says
Yeah, we don’t let those jars linger very long either and in the meantime…colorful works of art! I’m going to keep them out in view. 🙂
Pat says
Curious – what are the frozen looking “pucks” from the muffin tins?
Mavis Butterfield says
Vegetable pucks. 🙂 I wrote about them here: https://www.onehundreddollarsamonth.com/gardening-in-maine-free-vegetables-landscape-fabric-that-really-works-and-vegetable-pucks/
Diane says
Whew! I get tired just reading all you are doing! This year I really wanted to grow a few veggies and get back to canning, but so many other things have happened and all I got planted were some herbs. Soooo, saving your posts and looking toward next year!
