Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
The good news is I only have 1 more coat of white paint to add to the walls in the kitchen.
The bad news is that since the kitchen wall connects to the wall that’s behind the canning cupboard, I’ll have to take all the jars out so I can move the cupboard to paint behind it.
Oh well. At least now I’ll be able to count how many jars are in there.
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove DONE!!!
I hit my goal of selling enough of my 2022 hooked rugs and pillows in my Etsy shop to pay for my new Duck Egg Blue AGA cooker.
The cabinets are slated to be installed the first week in October and the AGA will be delivered the week after that. Countertops will likely be installed 4-6 weeks AFTER the cabinets are in so that means we will be without any plumbing in the kitchen {sink, dishwasher} until those are done.
I stocked up on paper plates and bowls since we’ll be without a sink for 4-6 weeks. Should be fun. 🙂
Fill the Canning Cupboard
The canning cupboard is almost full!
So far this year I have canned:
- Sweet and Spicy Hot Sauce
- Costco Like Salsa
- Basil and Garlic Tomato Sauce
- Tomato Ketchup
- Tomato Bruchetta
- Raspberry Blueberry Jam
- Carrot Cake Jam
- Strawberry Lemon Jam
- Blueberry Lime Jam
- Strawberry Jam
- Cinnamon Rhubarb Jam
- Pickled Asparagus
- Ginger Pear Jam
- Spiced Christmas Jam
- Cranberry Sauce
- Split Pea and Ham Soup
- Beef Stew
- Zucchini Relish
- Heirloom Tomato Salsa
Not canned, but in jars:

1 Craft / Blog Free Day a Week {I’ve had 36 craft/blog free days this year so far.}
Lucy and I spent an entire day in the garden moving the raspberry and blueberry plants from the religious garden to the kitchen garden for the winter.
The HH has plans for amending the soil down in the religious garden next week so we figured we might as well move everything while we can. This way he will be able to till everything up and create new rows for next year.
Be More Intentional With My Time
I stayed in, worked in the garden, dyed wool and finished a few rugs. It was a good week. Busy, but good.
Keep My Husband Busy
The HH’s big project this week was replacing the door and glass gaskets on the wood stove door. I don’t think this was an especially fun task, but he did it and now we’re all ready to heat our home with wood this winter. Yee-Haw.
Thank goodness for handy husbands.

Visit 12 Towns in Maine That I Haven’t Been to Before
So far we’ve visited:
How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?
~Mavis
Pauline in Upstate NY says
Hi Mavis – Great harvest from your gardens! I’m curious how you decide when the winter squash are “ready” to be harvested.
Mavis Butterfield says
Harvest when you can barely pierce the skin with your fingernail and the stems are dry and cork like. To harvest, cut squash off the vine, leaving about 2″ of vine on the squash.
Here’s a post I wrote a while back on winter squash. https://www.onehundreddollarsamonth.com/how-to-grow-winter-squash/
Elle says
Use pieces of a cardboard box under the feet of the canning cabinet to scoot it away from the wall rather than empty it!
So jealous of 712# of garden delight….but I AM genuinely happy for you 🙂
Diana says
I have to change out the gaskets on my wood stove door as well. Bought the kit, but just keep looking at it. I’m thinking there must be a YT video on it somewhere, but haven’t looked yet. Does the HH have any tips, tricks or suggestions he might be willing to offer up?
HH says
I watched a few YouTube videos. It’s fairly easy. Just make sure you clean the surface well and follow the directions on the kit if there are any. Start the seam on the gasket between the hinges on the inside of the door.
Teri says
Did you harvest 30 lbs of potatoes from the grow bins or did you also plant some in one of your gardens? You definitely have a green thumb! WTG Mavis!
Maxine says
Acorns – had an event with Master Gardeners where a Saw Tooth Oak tree was nearby. The little shells/lids(?) on the acorns look like tiki hut roofs or cute little hats. Might be cute to sell those if you have any in Maine? Several people collected some of the “hats” and acorns to make little dolls.
Lynda says
Is your new Aga fueled by wood?
Gigi says
Have you ever tried a paint can pour spout. They’re only a couple of dollars and will keep you can and rim clean. I love the one I have and I don’t do nearly the amount of painting you do.
Linda says
Last price I saw on a whole chicken was 16.00. I paid $6 for cornish hen this wk, I used to pay $3. You did well.
Rebecca Anne says
I love how industrious you are and how you not only make goals, but also check them off! Great job! One thing you probably already know, is, you might want to bake the acorns on a low temp to ensure there aren’t going to be little white worms crawl out…ask me how I know, ha ha. The acorns were lovely in a vase on the table…until WORMS started crawling out! Ack!
I am so excited for you getting your beautiful new stove that you earned, and just for your whole kitchen to be renovated! Congratulations! I love you blog. Thank you for posting your life, for all of us to be inspired by!
