Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
I finally got all my painting done in the kitchen and so my part is done. The HH will remove the rest of the kitchen cabinets and sink {and plumbing} in a few days and then we’ll be all ready for the cabinet guys to do their thing.
We’re SO CLOSE!
Oh, and the new registers we ordered arrived. I think they’ll look just a wee bit better than the old ones. 😉
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove DONE!!!
I hit my goal of selling enough of my 2022 hooked rugs and pillows in my Etsy shop to pay for my new Duck Egg Blue AGA cooker. Now we just have to wait for the cabinets to be installed and then we can have the 800+ pound cooker installed.

Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I meant to list the acorns last week but a few other projects cropped up and I’ll try again this week.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables.
While we’re no longer swimming in tomatoes, we still have plenty to snack on. But not for long… I think we only have a week or two left.
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room.
Hey, look at that! No crafts on the dining room table, can you believe it? Now I just need to get something hung {maybe one of my larger rugs?} over the sideboard.
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup {DONE}
It was a good experience, and we’re going to do it again next year {although I would like to find a few more trees to tap so our yield is a bit higher}.
Make a Quilt Top
I just need to cut squares out of the white fabric. And then I think I’ll be shipping all my cut pieces and backing to Camp Zoë to finish it for me. 🙂 Sometimes you just have to know you’re limits.
1 Craft / Blog Free Day a Week {I’ve had 36 craft/blog free days this year so far.}
No craft/blog free days for me and the puggle princess this past week. With all the Etsy stuff and painting, I hardly had time to sit down and eat.
Be More Intentional With My Time
It was a good week for staying on task.
Keep My Husband Busy
The HH was busy will all his man stuff last week {although I can’t remember what all that was} and he even surprised me with a sack of daffodil bulbs from one of his many trips to The Home Depot. How sweet was that?

My House Projects For This Year {so far}
Not only did I finish painting in the kitchen, but I also discovered I could remove the window grids that were in the kitchen window … And so I did. It’s so much nicer now to look out to the kitchen garden with an unobstructed view.
I don’t know why I didn’t think to do it sooner.
Things I need to get done this year:
- Finish painting the outside of the house
Finish painting the inside of the house- Make something to hang above our new console table
- Make it look like people actually live here {working on it!}
New window treatment for the kitchen window{Have it, just waiting for the HH to install it}

Visit 12 Towns in Maine That I Haven’t Been to Before
So far we’ve visited:
How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?
~Mavis
Greg & Sandy Olson says
We are from MN and on vacation here in Maine. We have been enjoying your blog for several years, but have never commented. We had to tell you that because of your tips we had a great lunch at the Jefferson General Store yesterday and visited the Owl’s Head Lighthouse & General store! We needed a break from the crowds at Acadia and we got it so thank you Mavis!
Margo says
Have to can about 15 lbs of apples to be turned into applesauce today. Of course it will be about 90 degrees or better this afternoon. Oh well, “gotta’ git it done”. Much of our local apples failed this year due to a late frost this spring, but plenty at my favorite produce stand, so got them while I could. Dehydrated some watermelon yesterday which my granddaughter loves. Tastes like candy, so sweet and chewy. Ready to finish planting the fall garden as soon as the heat wave breaks.
Tammy says
I see a worm hole in one of those acorns. Wouldn’t want to send out worms! 🙂
I love reading your list of things you’re accomplishing. I canned applesauce and chicken soup this week! I still have apples to can and tomatoes in my freezer that will eventually become canning projects. This is the first time I’ve frozen whole tomatoes for later and it was nice at the time to be able to chuck them into the freezer, especially since I was really sick when they were ripening, but now it means my freezer is full of whole tomatoes!
KC says
You can bake acorns/shells at a low-ish heat to kill bugs before sending them off to new homes.
Sue says
Casement windows – so much better for views than double hung but what to use for curtains? Those handles get in the way. Suggestions anyone?
Terri says
I made my kitchen curtains on the short side. Depending upon the handles, you can have the curtain length just at the knob connection. They look a little odd, but if you want privacy and no splashing on them…
Patti says
I canned the Blueberry-Basil Vinegar I was making (Recipe from the Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving). I had started it with our last blueberries and left it in a dark place for several weeks to mingle the flavors. Will give for Christmas gifts along with a recipe for using it to make a salad dressing. I need to go ahead and print that out before the rush of the holidays!
Mimi says
I was going to mention acorns and worms too. I collected a bunch of acorns a few years ago for fall decorating and was surprised several days later by lots of little worms. Now I freeze them in a ziploc bag for a week or two.
Judy says
Hi Mavis, baking a giant load of golden beets today. Butter s&p, then into freezer bags. Only harvested 25 corn, but they were turned into creamed corn sides. Those darn deer! Oh well, they are hungry too. Butter, cream, s&p and dill. So good!!! Tomorrow I have to take on the pearl onions, my hubby’s favorite. Pickle and freeze. A lot of work, but so much fun. I think I must have been a Pioneer in another life.?!
Emily says
Where did you find those registers? I would love to replace mine!

Brianna says
I am in the middle of reading it! It popped up on recommended reads in Libby for me last week and I thought it would be a typical return after the first chapter. I was pleasantly surprised. It it written well and fascinating so far.
KATHY HORT says
Mavis, it looks like you have canned carrots, too. Don’t sell yourself short 🙂
debbie in alaska says
Be careful of things rolling into the square vent openings on the new registers — speaking for experience 🙂 there are lost coffee beans, coins, and other tiny things in our ducts.
