Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
Running water in the kitchen. Giddy up! If you’ve ever been without plumbing in the kitchen for any length of time, well, you know how excited I am. And just in time for pie season too. Life is good!
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove DONE!!!
I hit my goal of selling enough of my 2022 hooked rugs and pillows in my Etsy shop to pay for my new Duck Egg Blue AGA cooker. But since the stove was damaged… We have to wait until the end of May 2023 for the new one to arrive. 🙁
Fill the Canning Cupboard DONE
I think I’m going to crack open a jar or two of the apple pie filling this week and try my hand at apple turnovers.
Have you made those before? Do you have any tips? I still have a box and a half of puff pastry in the fridge but I don’t know, turnovers still seem a little intimidating.
So far this year I have canned:
- Apple Pie Filling
- Canned Carrots
- Green Tomato Piccalilli
- Sweet and Spicy Hot Sauce
- Costco Like Salsa
- Basil and Garlic Tomato Sauce
- Tomato Ketchup
- Tomato Bruchetta
- Raspberry Blueberry Jam
- Carrot Cake Jam
- Strawberry Lemon Jam
- Blueberry Lime Jam
- Strawberry Jam
- Cinnamon Rhubarb Jam
- Pickled Asparagus
- Ginger Pear Jam
- Spiced Christmas Jam
- Cranberry Sauce
- Split Pea and Ham Soup
- Beef Stew
- Zucchini Relish
- Heirloom Tomato Salsa
Not canned, but in jars:
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I’ve decided to move this goal to 2023.
I just didn’t have enough time to devote to this goal this year. I had planned on making a few spinner gourd garlands this year for fall, but there is just too much other stuff going on right now to make it a priority.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables.
Tis the season for butternut squash. And we’re eating a lot of it.
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room.
Hey now, what’s that? A clean {and craft free} dining room two weeks in a row. Let’s see if I can make it 3.
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup {DONE}
It was a good experience, and we’re going to do it again next year {although I would like to find a few more trees to tap so our yield is a bit higher}.
Make a Quilt Top
My quilt squares and quilting fabric for the background have been shipped off my friend Zoë. Her sewing calendar is pretty full right now, but she has me on her list for January.
I’m excited to see how the quilt turns out.
1 Craft / Blog Free Day a Week {I’ve had 44 craft/blog free days this year so far.}
I was able to stay off the internet one day last week. maybe I should up my game and try for two next year.
Be More Intentional With My Time
I had a very productive week. I baked a lot, stitched 8 pillows together, dyed wool, mailed orders, kept the house picked up {not an easy task} when you’re a full time crafter and even made it outside a few times to enjoy the fall foliage.
When I was out there though, I noticed the day lilies were coming up. That’s not good! It’s been so unseasonably warm here for November though {66 yesterday!} that I think the plants are confused.
I can’t decide if this means we are going to have a wicked cold winter {when it finally arrives} or we aren’t going to get much snow this year. Hmm.
Keep My Husband Busy
The HH kept plenty busy with all his man chores last week but now I have a new one to add to his list.
Clean out the woodstove pipe! I went to light a fire one morning and there was a bunch of creosote on top of the logs {I had set the logs up the night before}.
That’s not good!

My House Projects For This Year {so far}
Next on my list is patching up the two new trim pieces and lower walls in the kitchen that the HH attached once the cabinets were installed.
Things I need to get done this year:
- Finish painting the outside of the house
Finish painting the inside of the house- Make something to hang above our new console table
- Make it look like people actually live here {working on it!}

This past week the HH and I walked around Belfast, Maine for a bit. We didn’t end up eating out or buying anything but did enjoy walking around the old downtown.
Visit 12 Towns in Maine That I Haven’t Been to Before
So far we’ve visited:
How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?
~Mavis
Mel says
Turnovers are super easy! But if you want something even easier and similar, try apple pandowdy https://www.gimmesomeoven.com/apple-pandowdy/
Mavis Butterfield says
This looks VERY good!
Diane says
I love that you tallied your harvest results! Could you indicate, or estimate if you’ve forgotten, how many plants of each vegetable produced this wonderful harvest? Wondering how many tomato plants yielded 435 lbs, etc. It would be helpful for planning my garden next year as I never know how many to plant! Or do you know a site that estimates yields per plant of various veggies? I don’t need a “religious family” garden! Ha!
Mavis Butterfield says
I don’t remember how many of which items I planted but I will try and keep track next spring when I set things out.
Pam F. says
I had to laugh as the first photo I thought was a shredded tire and hubcap, then I read about your sink. Our eyes do play tricks. Never made turnovers but am fairly tired of making pies so last week made a galette (free form tart). So easy and so good.
You said your day lilies were coming up yet the picture looks like garlic.
Your kitchen is really coming together. Maybe that island you always wanted to move to is actually the UK. Just a thought.
Ramona says
My eyes saw about the same thing. It looked like a reflection of a tire in a puddle with a hubcap that fell off to the side.
Tammy says
YES! I saw the same thing in the first picture!!! Haha
Dianne says
I saw the shredded tire and hub cap as well! Too funny!
The apple pandowdy looks good – think I will try that.
Mavis Butterfield says
Maybe I should start researching UK islands next. Hmmm.
Emily says
Zoe does beautiful work! Thank you for linking us to her site.
