Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
After an exhaustive research, the HH finally decided on an espresso machine for the kitchen. He hardly ever buys anything for himself so this was a big deal for him.
Well, to make a long story short, the machine arrived on Friday and after unpacking the thing for like half an hour, he discovered a part was missing {of course it was!} and now he has to wait for the new part to arrive before he can test out his new toy.
Lame.
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove DONE!!!
I hit my goal of selling enough of my 2022 hooked rugs and pillows in my Etsy shop to pay for my new Duck Egg Blue AGA cooker. But since the stove was damaged… We have to wait until the end of May 2023 for the new one to arrive.
Fill the Canning Cupboard DONE
Note to self: Can triple the amount of apple pie filling next year. I’ve been making so many cranberry and apple galettes lately, that I’m down to just 4 jars.
Also, I need to make a plan to use up all that jam before next canning season.
So far this year I have canned:
- Apple Pie Filling
- Canned Carrots
- Green Tomato Piccalilli
- Sweet and Spicy Hot Sauce
- Costco Like Salsa
- Basil and Garlic Tomato Sauce
- Tomato Ketchup
- Tomato Bruchetta
- Raspberry Blueberry Jam
- Carrot Cake Jam
- Strawberry Lemon Jam
- Blueberry Lime Jam
- Strawberry Jam
- Cinnamon Rhubarb Jam
- Pickled Asparagus
- Ginger Pear Jam
- Spiced Christmas Jam
- Cranberry Sauce
- Split Pea and Ham Soup
- Beef Stew
- Zucchini Relish
- Heirloom Tomato Salsa
Not canned, but in jars:
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I’ve decided to move this goal to 2023.
I just didn’t have enough time to devote to this goal this year. I had planned on making a few spinner gourd garlands this year for fall, but there is just too much other stuff going on right now to make it a priority.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables.
Lot’s of butternut squash this past week.
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room.
It was another successful week of keeping the crafts out of the dining room. And as a side note, we’ve decided to use the horrid leg lamp as our Christmas tree this year.
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup {DONE}
It was a good experience, and we’re going to do it again next year {although I would like to find a few more trees to tap so our yield is a bit higher}.
Make a Quilt Top
My cut quilt squares and quilting fabric for the background have been shipped off my friend Zoë. Her sewing calendar is pretty full right now, but she has me on her list for January.
1 Craft / Blog Free Day a Week {I’ve had 49 craft/blog free days this year so far.}
I took yesterday off and had myself a pajama day. 🙂
Be More Intentional With My Time
One of the things I want to do this winter is more bread making, so I bought myself a baguette pan. Winter soups and homemade bread… I can’t think of a better combination.
Keep My Husband Busy
It’s all about keeping the house warm these days. Luckily, I know a guy. 😉
The HH’s Honey Do List {so far} for 2022
- Take over cooking {I’ll still do the baking and canning}

My House Projects For This Year {so far}
I was going to finish the little bit of painting that still needs to be done but ended up working on a few new recipes and rug hooking projects this past week instead.
Also, I’ve discovered as I’ve gotten older, that if I don’t get a project I’m not especially excited about done early in the morning, then I might as well forget about it for the day.
Things I need to get done this year:
- Finish painting the outside of the house
Finish painting the inside of the house- Make something to hang above our new console table
- Make it look like people actually live here {working on it!}
New window treatment for the kitchen window{Have it, just waiting for the HH to install it}

Listen to 12 Audiobooks {13/12 so far} DONE

Visit 12 Towns in Maine That I Haven’t Been to Before
This past week the HH and I visited the town of Bath, Maine and had a blast. We loved walking downtown {I’ll tell you all about it soon} and even went down some of the residential side streets and picked up something to eat at the local bakery.
I can’t believe it took us so long to check out the town! We loved it.

How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?

kathy says
Mavis, here is a delicious way to use up some jam – the recipe calls for reaspberry but I have subbed just about every flavor you can think of and its still awesome everytime. https://www.5boysbaker.com/raspberry-oatmeal-crumble-bars/
Catherine says
I agree with you, the most important things need to be done early in the day otherwise they don’t get done or finished.
PSUCHIC06 says
Yes!
I also feel like…if I get up @ 8 or 9….the day is shot! I can get so much done during the week from 530 to 730!
Jamie says
Will there be blog post about the new espresso maker and your thoughts on the quality of the steamed milk once it is put together and the HH can test it?
Sue says
LOL, that was a very appropriate comment! I AM lol just about now – it was a very busy weekend here.
Mavis Butterfield says
HA! Yes, I’m sure there will be.
Jamie says
Yay!
Sue says
I agree about tackling tasks early in the day. By the time dinner is finished in the Sharpe House, I’m feeling rather “dull”. Was wondering about that lamp – it’s awful – it just doesn’t look right in your dining room. Was afraid to comment about it, but. . . . .you opened the door. Do you ever relax Mavis? Sue
Maxine says
Do you have a calendar or order for seed starting, transplanting that you could share? I need a framework to work from and now with your religious family plot seems you might be growing quite a bit. No biggee if you not. Just curious.
Yes, mornings are always my most productive. Although I sometimes re- charge with chocolate covered espresso beans later in the day. Oddly enough I don’t drink coffee or espresso. Lol
Thanks as always for a wonderful blog and letting us tag along. Hugs for the leg lamp. I don’t know if I could handle it. Lol
Kath says
Hi Maxine…here is something I have found helpful. I’m not affiliated with them. I just came across it in a search one day and it is quite thorough.

There is something good to say about the leg lamp, it’s temporary!
I think HH needs a man cave.
Mavis Butterfield says
Yep.
Chyrl says
It sort of has a tree shape, ten or so yards of tinsel might help! (camouflage)
Gigi says
Do you think your no knead bread recipe would work with the baguette pan? Or so you have another recipe you plan on using?
Mavis Butterfield says
I have another recipe that I’m working on, but I’ll have to give the no knead recipe a try in the new pan.
Gigi says
Please let us know. I’ve contemplated the baguette pan, but I’m a lazy bread baker. I don’t have much luck with letting dough rise or kneading.
JMeyers says
I have that same baguette pan & I love it! I lay my silpat on it so the loaves don’t stick. Works perfectly!
GrannyB says
Sorry, but if the leg lamp is going to be the Christmas tree, then it needs to be properly displayed in front of a window on a table. Everyone needs to be able to enjoy it. Hahahaha
