Here’s my big list of things I want to accomplish in 2022:
Remodel The Kitchen
One of the reasons I wanted to remove the awkward island from the kitchen early was to see if we could live without one for a while and to see what it would be like without one. And well…. that’s a big fat negative. 🙂
We are going to need some sort of island, of a small moveable table perhaps. Counter space alone, just won’t cut it. Good to know!
Sell Enough Rugs to Buy an AGA Stove {$6699.00 of $22,000 earned so far}
I sold a few more new pieces and is 30% of the amount I need for the AGA! Wahoooo. I need to get some more wool dyed this week, but after that, I’ll start working on some new hooked pieces for my March 5th Etsy update. Exciting! 🙂
I think this whale pillow was my favorite piece I hooked from my last update.
Fill the Canning Cupboard {This is where the canning cupboard will go}
The cupboard isn’t supposed to arrive until spring, but that’s not going to keep me for working on filling it. Jams I’ve made to fill my canning cupboard so far: Ginger Pear Jam and Spiced Christmas Jam.
I have a few recipes I want to get to before gardening season hits… I just need to find the time.
Earn Enough Money Selling {?????} To Pay For Our 2022 Grocery Tab By The End Of The Year.
I haven’t actually listed them yet, but I plan on selling rocks, shells, driftwood and a few other found treasures to pay for my groceries this year. I think it will be fun to see not only what sells, but see where the people buying the beach treasures are from.
Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
The HH went grocery shopping the other day and bought way more bananas than we could possibly eat before they turn brown… so it looks like a batch {or two} of banana nut muffins are on the radar for next week.
Keep The Crafts… In The Craft Room!
I was able to keep the crafts out of the craft room 2 out of 7 days last week.
This goal probably won’t be truly realized until gardening season because I am currently in production mode {dyeing wool, drawing patterns, hooking like a mad woman} until the ground thaws.
Winters here in Maine are long {or so they say} but I don’t even really notice because I am so busy playing with wool this time of year. My “craft” room is stuffed to the gills with stacks of wool that needs to be dyed and until that gets done, the kitchen table {during the day at least} has become a giant craft table.
My goal is to have everything on my list completed by March 31st.
Tap Our 2 Maple Trees and Make Maple Syrup
No tapping going on this month… but we should probably make plans to go to Hussey’s General Store soon and get our tapping supplies.
Make a Quilt Top
I didn’t make time to get anymore quilt squares cut this past week but I’m giving myself to the end of the month to get all the squares cut out. I knew this project was going to be a bit of a chore for me, but it’s the end result {a finished quilt!} that keeps me positive and motivated to get it done.
Be More Intentional With My Time
I made my to-do list for next week this morning so I’m pretty pleased about that! Also, the current view from the family room is pretty spectacular right now. Did I mention I’m never moving again? 😉
1 Craft / Blog Free Day
So far I’m 4 for 5 this year. Which is a HUGE improvement over previous years.
Keep My Husband Busy
The HH was very busy looking after Lucy this week {even though I had to play the role of the meanie and put the medicine in her eyes}. I am happy to report that after her check up with the vet yesterday, she’s now able to be cone free.
The antibiotics cleared up her sweet little eyes and she is back to her normal crazy, high energy self.
The HH’s Honey Do List {so far} for 2022
- Take over cooking {I’ll still do the baking and canning}
- Cut down the cluster of trees in the backyard
- Build a new set of stairs down to the water.
- Fill the field {with soil}
- Remodel 1 bathroom
- Build window boxes for the front of the house
- Build an arbor for the wisteria
- Order 4 cords of firewood by the end of May and stack them in an artful way {like they did in the book Norwegian Wood}.
My House Projects For This Year {so far}
- Finish painting the outside of the house
- Finish painting the inside of the house
- Make something to hang above our new console table
- Make it look like people actually live here HA HA HA
- New window treatment for the kitchen window
Try 24 New Recipes {4 down, 21 to go}
Last week I baked a loaf of Dutch Oven Olive and Rosemary Bread and it was fantastic! Other recipes I’ve tried this year:
- Mrs. C’s Slow Cooker Pot Roast
- Ginger Pear Jam
- Lentils with Carrots and Thyme
- Dutch Oven Cinnamon Raisin Bread
Listen to 12 Audiobooks
I feel guilty. I did pick up The Boys by Ron and Clint Howard at the library last week and have only managed to read the forward so far.
I need to find out if our library has overdrive or something like that.
Audiobooks I’ve listened to this year:
Night Road by Kristen Hannah on Audiobook. I’d give it a 9/10.
Get a Fishing License and Catch a Fish
The HH is in charge of procuring all the fishing gear. So you know, there’s lot’s of research to be done first. 😉
On my list of projects for this week is to organize my seed packets by planting dates. I did this last year and it was tremendously helpful.
My List of Garden Projects For This Year I want to Accomplish
- Map out this year’s garden by April 1st
- Plant apple or pear trees
- Plant raspberry and blueberry bushes
- Plant asparagus and rhubarb
- Grow 500 pounds of food
- Expand the lasagna garden
- Finish clearing the front of the property
- Get some garden pots for the front an back patio/porches
Create 12 New Rug Hooking Patterns and/or Kits
The plan was to create at least 1 new pattern each month. So far I have added 6 new patterns/kits to my Etsy shop:
- Folk Art Chicken
- Valentine Kisses
- 1736 Tulips
- Large Valentine Heart Runner
- Antique Flower Basket
- Love Grows Fraktur Bird
Have All My 2022 Ornaments Finished by April 1st.
I didn’t get a chance to paint any ornaments last week but the chickens I painted last week are headed for the kiln.
52 Walks {We’ve gone on 1 of 51 so far}
Do to the freezing temps, our walks are on hold for a wee bit. 😉
Visit 12 Towns in Maine That I Haven’t Been to Before
So far we have visited the town of Hope Maine and checked out the General Store there. 🙂
How about YOU? How did you do with working towards your goals for 2022?

Great to see you’re already 1/3 of the way towards that beautiful stove. It’s always good to see goals realized.
Like you, I love the winter months. Nice weather brings with it endless work and no time for the things I get to indulge in during winter months.
I’m planning on making your cinnamon raisin, and olive and rosemary breads. I’m going to use my sourdough instead of yeast. I make a loaf if sourdough every week. Oh the joys of winter.
Thank you for the way you contribute to your readers’ lives. Did you ever imagine that so many people would check to see what you have to brighten their day?

I need to attempt sourdough. It looks intimating!
Carrie says
I put off sourdough for several years because of thinking it would be intimidating. I made a starter from scratch this summer and we are loving it!
Maybe your husband would like to take it on?
It would also save you a ton of money! Bread (even the cheap kind) is getting so expensive! We love not only making crusty loaves and sandwich bread, but also pretzels (usually we make them into rolls for sausages), English muffins (homemade is so much yummier), biscuits, and waffles.
I have been working on batch cooking loaves and freezing them which has been great.
Venisonfordinner.com and theprairehomestead.com have been great resources!

I used my sourdough to make a couple loaves of the cinnamon raisin bread- so good!

So glad Lucy is recovering well! <3
Linda says
Not at all Mavis. My starter is MANY years old. Get the starter from King Arthur and make their No Knead Sourdough Bread to begin with.
Catherine says
That’s the recipe I use as well. It’s so easy.
Linda says
I know you can make sourdough bread.
I purchased my sourdough starter from King Arthur about 20 years ago. It came with instructions on how to feed it and keep it going. They have a great No Knead Sourdough Bread recipe on their site.

Have you considered entering the postcard lotto for “The Lost Kitchen” and visiting Freedom, Maine? Watching the show reminds me of you – the whole Maine thing. I got to visit!

I’m going to try to plant as many fruit trees as I can with half an eye to feeding the local birds and not gleaning off every single one.
Have you considered cornelian cherries? Or sour ones which do become sweet if left on the tree.
I don’t know if the sour would be hardy but I’m fairly sure cornelian ones would be.
Resist the urge to tidy the garden so bees and butterflies don’t get disturbed , right now it’s mild in February, Devon, England.
I’m trying too to make sure we eat and use more pulses and try too to purchase with thought behind it, so I’m buying say spilt peas grown organically in the U.K. rather than Asian beans which obviously have to travel much further .
I’m also trying to use crowd farming ( buying direct from organic farms) , so my oranges say come from there rather than a supermarket, the farmer gets a better price and so do I.
I’m giving in away all excess things to charity shops or advertising them locally on Facebook and trying to buy less and then I do, to think strongly if it’s a decent environment choice.

Maybe something like these for the island. Good Luck.

I am utterly in love with that whale pillow, it’s the cutest!!!

We have a great counter height table for the middle of our kitchen but it moves every time you brush up against it. Then since it is constantly moving we are always tripping over the legs hence we took it out of the kitchen and stashed it in the garage because it is a pain in the neck. We bring it in for holidays or big get togethers here. I would get something with wheels that you can lock and that has some shelves underneath for added storage if I decided to replace the table.

So happy that Lucy is rid of her cone and has recovered. Give her a big hug!

From the web:
Do frozen bananas taste like ice cream?
When bananas are peeled, chopped, and frozen, they turn creamy as well as cold, almost indistinguishable from the texture and taste of ice cream. Just throw the frozen chunks into a blender and purée until they reach an ice cream-like consistency, grab a spoon and dig in.Feb 21, 2018
Then flavor with vanilla, chocolate tropical fruits, whatever. Great.

Had to look up the aga stove. I think I would have to learn how to cook all over again. Will you turn yours off during the summer months?
