Stay Healthy!
Mrs. HB is coming to visit next week and I couldn’t be more excited! I can’t wait to share my favorite walking trail with her and to do all the fun stuff I have planned {I haven’t given her ANY details.}. And to have her drive! 🙂
And YES, I am STILL waiting for the daffodils on the side of my house to bloom! How crazy is that?

Keep My Husband Busy
On the HH’s to-do list for today: Mow the field, hang the towel rack and take me to get pie and ice cream.
I was originally going to plant oodles of wildflowers in the field, then we realized that if we grew flowers {and didn’t mow the field} it would be a hot spot for ticks, and well we can’t have that {been there, done that}. I have a new plan for the wildflowers though, but it will have to wait for Mrs. HB to get here.
Towel Rack. After having Monkey Boy and The Girl stay here {and using the hall bathroom} we decided we DID in fact need a towel bar in the bathroom. So I ordered the one that matched the other hardware in the room and now I’m just waiting for it to be hung.

The HH went to the library to pick up an Elizabeth Ogilive book for me but the library didn’t have it so the librarian gave him the book A Walk Down Main Street by Maine Author Ruth Moore instead.
I haven’t started reading it yet, but did have a little laugh when I took a look at the inside cover and noticed that the last time the book was checked out was 8 1/2 years ago.

I broke out the shorts and short sleeved shirts this week! But still, I haven’t worn about 50% of the clothing in my closet this year.
My House Projects For This Year
The HH just came home with a load of bricks for the new garden walkway. Yee-Haw! So the next project on my list is to help him lay those, and then gather all the supplies for the “camp improvement project” I have planned for Mrs. HB.
Everybody that comes to stay at Camp Butterfield has to do a “camp improvement project.” 😉 Just wait until she finds out what hers is. Bahahahaha.

Morning Mavis. When I sat down yesterday morning with my coffee and saw that you were missing I was hoping all was well! Glad to see you are back as usual this morning!

I would recommend “Maine Farm: A Year of Country Life” by Stanley Joseph and Lynn Karlin. Their family took over the homestead of Scott and Helen Nearing – ‘Forest Farm’, on the Cape Rosier peninsula. It has some really lovely stories, recipes, craft ideas and beautiful photographs of life on a coastal Maine farm.

I waited for months to read the four winds and I was so disappointed that it was a bit raunchy. What a let down. I’m returning it without reading it.
Annette says
I wish there was some sort of rating system for books, as there is for movies, to tell ahead of time how raunchy it is.
Mavis Butterfield says
After a totally unnecessary part at the beginning of the book, I almost returned it as well. But I gave it a chance and I’m so glad I did.
I don’t remember how long the audio version was (12 hours? 14 hours?) but out of the whole audiobook, I think there was about 4 minutes that totally didn’t need to be there.
It wasn’t an underlying theme in the book. It was worth the wait in my opinion.
Katie says
I’m glad to see this comment and to see Mavis’ reply as well. This kind of stuff turns me off in a book, and this is one I’ve been looking forward to. I even bought a copy! But knowing it’s just something I have to get past in the beginning is helpful to me. We’ll see if I sing the same tune when I’m done! lol

Just returned from a 30 min drive to purchase paint @ Home Depot. Shelves were sparse with gallon cans. Sales person told me there is a run on polymers this summer and that’s a main ingredient for paint. Unknown when this will change. Stock up friends!
Lumber prices? Or was I purchasing gold @ HD?
Katie says
It could have to do with the bad winter storm we had down here in Texas. The freeze took out a couple plants in Houston that make plastics. I’m not sure if they have reopened yet. The storm was in February…

Re: your 10/10 rating for The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah: A friend suggested a book by Kristin Hannah, can’t remember which one now but I liked it so much I ended up reading straight through everything in her catalog. Remarkable writer, one I highly recommend also!
Rita says
I tried reading “Distant Shores” is she a romance writer?
Virginia says
I think you need to rename your place Camp Work-a-Bunch! 😉
Mavis Butterfield says
Funny funny!

I can’t wait to hear how Mrs HB is. When you two get together, it won’t be work. You two enjoy doing things together and have so much fun, that you both will have a blast. Wish she would check in a few times a year. Friends like her are a true blessing!!

Beautiful tilled garden with the white picket fence! Love the little pansy in the grass photo! I found myself looking for Mel’s ambitious comments to your posts. I miss her … Hope she’s doing better!

There is a gardener/farmer, Jim Kovaleski, that divides his time between Maine and Florida and does front yard farming/gardening. I think of him every time you mention gardening in Maine. You should google him. It’s very impressive what he can grow in a neighborhood setting.
I’m so glad its ice-cream season in Michigan too!

I haven’t seen a library stamp card since I was a kid! I’m a little giddy seeing that they still get used 🙂 My oldest son (5) just got his library card this past weekend. The requirement was being able to write his first and last name on his card. So we worked for several months on writing his name and then being able to write it small enough. I’m a very proud mama!
Anne Wiebe says
I too was thrilled to see the library stamp card! It’s been many years and I mourned their passing. So happy to see one still in use!
