Stay Healthy!
Waking up to this view every morning sure puts me in a good mood. Yesterday we spotted a Mama turkey and her 8 little babies making their way across the yard. It was the sweetest thing ever.

Keep My Husband Busy
It was another busy week for the maintenance guy… mowing, lifting heavy things, changing out all the outlets in the craft room from almond to white, leaving the house to do all the things people leave the house for because someone {who shall not be mentioned} doesn’t want to go anywhere. Ha.

Clean Out My Closet
I still haven’t worn about 50% of the clothing in my closet this year and so it’s looking like I’ll be donating a bunch of stuff to the little church in town towards the end of the year. A thinned out closet… it can be very liberating.
My House Projects For This Year
I wasn’t planning on painting the craft room this year but since our next round of guests will be staying there {and the double twin room} and we needed to pull pretty much everything out of the room for the air mattresses, we were like… hey, we should go ahead and paint in here now while it’s empty. And so we did!
- Figure out new window treatments for the back of the house
- Come up with a game plan for the kitchen remodel {for 2022}
Paint the family room walls and trim{DONE!}Paint the entryway trim and doors{DONE!}Paint the dining room walls and trim{DONE!}- Paint the master bedroom walls and trim

My List of Garden Projects For This Year I want to Accomplish
Still left on the list:
Install a simple flower bed border in front of the house{Done}- Install a boatload of birdhouses/feeders in the side yard {re-thinking this one}
- Transplant evergreen saplings to the side of property for a privacy border
- Clean up and prune the area that faces the road
Install a vegetable garden{Done}Install a sunflower patch{decided for a row along the side of the barn instead}- Plant 2,500 flower bulbs in the fall {Why 2,500? It seemed like a good number to start with}
The sunflower seeds I planted along the barn are up. Yee-Haw!
Reach 10,000 Sales on Etsy {as of this morning I’ve made 7674 sales on Etsy}. Only 2326 to go!
While I added some new wool bundles at the beginning of the week, since then I haven’t had any time for rug hooking or dyeing wool. I think summers in general are going to be pretty busy around here, and so I may have to figure out a plan to get all my rug hooking and wool dyeing done during the winter months instead of trying to do crafty things during the summer.
It may take a year or two to work out a plan, but I’ll figure it out.

Linda Practical Parsimony says
Try The Country of the Pointed Firs by Sarah Orne Jewett set in Dunnet Landing, Maine. I read it for a grad school lit class. Or, maybe you have it and have read it?
Linda Practical Parsimony says
By the way, this is not some erudite book that requires one to pore over it for meaning and value.
Brianna says
I am reading the Light Between Oceans right now, I am 2/3 through it and hope to finish it in the next few days. It is ok and there is foreshadowing, so I haven’t been surprised yet. I will have to finish and see how it ends. I’ve had a bit of a hard time with the old fashioned Aussie slang and trying to interpret a few lines here and there.
Mel says
This has definitely been one of those years where the hits just keep on coming for us, so I’m letting a lot more things slide than usual, but my garden goals are still going well somehow. We got two inches of rain in the span of a couple days last week, so my herb garden got a little beat up, but I was able to clean it up pretty quickly yesterday since my new design holds up so much better than my old one. And the materials for my new tomato trellis system arrived, so I’m hoping to assemble those today before the rain makes the plants too tall and unwieldy to get them into the beds.
Linda T says
Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. Prayers being said for you and your family.
Mel says
Thank you. We really appreciate it.
Mavis Butterfield says
Hang in there Mel.
I’m glad your garden is doing well this year. I just saw a bunny in the backyard tonight and now I’m getting nervous.
Mel says
I’ll do my best! We have more bunnies than ever, but they don’t seem to bother the garden for some reason. At least not yet.
Dianne says
Hi Mavis,
If you haven’t read Olive Kitteridge -make sure you read that before Olive, Again. I liked both books. Your back yard looks wonderful compared to a few or more months ago! You can easily see all the hard work done!
Katie P NC says
I’m looking for a simple queen sized bed frame for my spare room and really striking out with design (plain and simple) versus affordability. Anyone out there have an off-the-beaten-website that they’ve found one? Mavis, where are you looking if you’re looking online?
gina says
Since you say your hubby is updating almond outlets to white, I wanted to share these with you. We bought a little house recently and were doing updates when we discovered these cool outlet covers. There are also switch covers. No need to change out the outlet itself. These covers fit completely over as if for a new cover but without changing out the outlet (or switch). We looked everywhere locally and couldn’t find them. Amazon to the rescue!
Have a good week, Mavis & family!
