Try Everything That Head Tide Oven Offers This Summer
Head Tide Oven is located in the small town of Damariscotta, Maine and is only open a few months out of the year… so I will have to be super diligent if I’m going to try everything before the bakery closes shop at the end of summer. 🙂
This week we picked up a cherry rhubarb pie {crazy good, and gone in 30 hours, I had 5 slices, the HH had 2} a loaf of sourdough Kalamata olive bread {excellent!}, a bag of anise sesame biscotti {they were okay} and a slice of pan forte {which was probably the tastiest new to me food I’ve tried in a VERY long time}.
Items I’ve Tried From Head Tide Oven in Damariscotta, Maine this summer:
- Sourdough Kalamata Olive Bread
- Sourdough Bread
- Flat Sourdough Bread
- Baguette
- Ginger Cookie x2

Clean Out My Closet
I am currently working on a box of items to donate. Apparently I pretty much wear the same clothes everyday, who knew?
My House Projects For This Year
My next big project, is to paint the outside of the house. It’s gotten off to a slow start though because first it was too hot to be painting outside, and then it started rain. But as long as I get it done before the end of July, I’ll be happy.
- Figure out new window treatments for the back of the house
- Come up with a game plan for the kitchen remodel {for 2022}
Paint the family room walls and trim{DONE!}Paint the entryway trim and doors{DONE!}Paint the dining room walls and trim{DONE!}Paint the master bedroom walls and trim{DONE!}Paint the barnand add a new fixturePaint the hallway bathroom{DONE!}
My List of Garden Projects For This Year I want to Accomplish
I’m already thinking ahead to fall! I started a few Brussels Sprouts, cabbage and broccoli seeds in a leftover clear food container. I might be a little too early with the cabbage and broccoli, but we’ll see.
Still left on the list:
Install a simple flower bed border in front of the house{Done}- Install a boatload of birdhouses/feeders in the side yard {re-thinking this one}
- Transplant evergreen saplings to the side of property for a privacy border
- Clean up and prune the area that faces the road
Install a vegetable garden{Done}Install a sunflower patch{decided for a row along the side of the barn instead}- Plant 2,500 flower bulbs in the fall {Why 2,500? It seemed like a good number to start with}
Reach 10,000 Sales on Etsy {as of this morning I’ve made 7800 sales on Etsy}. Only 2200 to go!
Things have slowed down a little on Etsy in the last few weeks, probably because everyone is outside playing instead of being cooped in inside and it’s been a great chance for me to play catch up. This week I plan on drawing out patterns and dyeing a few more bundles of wool.

I love that photo of you in the kayak with Lucy as coxswain!!! Totally worthy of getting made into a canvas print.

Mavis; Get your hands on a copy of Away Happens by Phil Crossman. A fun read of how small and humorous Island life is. He is from Vinalhaven and owns the Tidewater Inn on the island. Staying on the island for a weekend we fell into our own ‘only on an island in Maine’ funny happenings. Happy 4th of July!
Jamie says
Many of us probably read on here that you were deleting Facebook, so not as surprised.
I almost deleted Facebook years ago, I don’t like to post every little thing about my family and when I rarely post it’s usually food or my garden. This week I decided that I would only look at my free gifting and gleaning groups and no one else’s profile. I definitely have negative feelings and get jealous when I see where I was left out or when things aren’t as accurate as they are portrayed. I like to be “in person” (I don’t even really like using the phone) and for relationships to feel real and honest, neither of which happens for me with Facebook. It’s not really growing friendships for me, or using my time wisely. So many other thoughts about Facebook, but happy to just say that I am loving not being on there!
Today I really need to plan for our Boston trip later this week., I’m realizing we could go farther up the coast if we didn’t stay just in Boston. Trying to find towns and hotels and boy are they crazy expensive!
Kim says
The owl ornament looks really good! It would be perfect for a fall-themed decor.
Wendy says
Love the owl ornament. I finished my hall bathroom this week and it feels like I ran a marathon! Too many decisions!
Elle says
Congrats on your success with the Fruit Pie/Hamburger diet
Love the kayaking photo. You seem to have found your bliss at Camp Butterfield!
Rebecca in MD says
LOL, yes, Mavis may be on to something with the fruit pie/hamburger diet………. forget Keto, Intermittent Fasting, and all that other stuff…….just eat your fruit pie and pickety bits and never stop moving and you, too, may succeed!
Ashley Bananas says
I love the owl and looked up the artist you refer to. Her work is gorgeous!!
Sarah says
oOoh!! That explains why I haven’t been FB notifications about why you haven’t posted. I just figured when the app updated it got a little wonky. I’ll just have to remember on my own to check in!
Mindy says
I was sitting here listening to some documentary about ghosts on the east coast that my bf and it got me thinking “where is Mavis?” I didn’t pay attention to how often you posted but I read all your posts. This was longer than normal for no post, I had to scramble a lot to find you in other locations to make sure you are ok!

Goals are doing well, so far. I started off with 6 and added one a few days ago.
Completed one financial goal and am 25% complete with the second (it will be done by October – then I’ll be out of cc debt!!!)
Third and fourth goals are out of my hands until exterior events happen – which will hopefully be completed by end of summer.
Fifth goal is to complete my kitchen remodel. I’ve only been without a REAL kitchen for 14 years, but who’s counting? I’ve actually begun working on it and with the heat of summer about to hit, I won’t be outside much and can work inside.
Sixth goal is to eliminate the HUGE pile of firewood logs by splitting and stacking it. My log splitter was in the shop due to a leaking oil seal for, literally, a year. I finally got it back – just in time for spring planting and yard work. Now the heat has hit and I’ll just have to try to get some done in the mornings. Because it’s been sitting there for 2 years, it’s plenty dry, so I could probably wait until early fall when it cools down.
The last goal that I just created is to lose 40 pounds. I’ve gained 10 pounds in the last few months and have felt horrible. I took a good long look in the mirror and examined my health issues and decided it’s time to take care of business. I’ll work on losing 1 pound per week for the next 40 weeks (gonna straddle years on this one), but I’m determined to get off the BP meds, ease the pain in my knees and feel good about myself again.
Thanks for posting your updates, it helps…
Colleen says
I missed your FB posts! Realized I hadn’t seen a post recently and had to search to find you.
Lisa says
We got a Blackstone griddle this week too! When it arrived on our doorstep, my husband said it felt like Christmas.
Mavis Butterfield says
The great part about it is if you did most of the cooking before… you won’t need to know. 🙂
Chyrl says
Love the picture of Lucy in the kayak! She is a treasure!
Katie says
Over the holiday weekend I finally jumped in and with the ball book in hand, I taught myself to can. It went so well I ended up with tomato sauce, two jams, and ketchup lol.
Sandra says
I guess my head has been up my a**, because I just realized you weren’t on FB any more! 🙁 A friend of mine is from Maine and posted Sandra(not clear) pictures of some bafflehead ducks she saw off the coast of Maine. I looked them up-so colorful beautiful and I thought they’d make a great garland (or ornament).
