Stay Healthy!
For the second month in a row I weighed in at 131.4 pounds. That’s down a little over 9 pounds since the beginning on the year. I’ll take it! 🙂 I have no idea what I’ll do for exercise once it gets too cold to play outside in the garden, but I should probably start to think about it soon.

Keep My Husband Busy
This past week the HH replaced a part on the car, hung party lights in the back {that we later took down because they didn’t look right} helped me schlep seaweed up to the lasagna garden, and used the wood chipper to turn a few bushes in the back into mulch.
Now we just have to level the area off were the ugly azaleas were and plant some grass seed.

My List of Garden Projects For This Year I want to Accomplish
I finally placed my order for spring bulbs and chose this purplish pink mix for the kitchen garden. I know deer are attracted to tulips so I only ordered enough {300} to tuck behind the white picket fence.
I ordered about 3500 more though for the front and back of the property and all those are deer resistant {daffodils, irises} so we should be okay.
It’s a few more bulbs that I had planned on planting this year… but hopefully by the time they arrive {early October?} we should have all the beds cleaned up and ready to go.
Still left on the list:
Install a simple flower bed border in front of the house{Done}Start a lasagna garden- Install a boatload of birdhouses/feeders in the side yard {re-thinking this one}
- Transplant evergreen saplings to the side of property for a privacy border {fall project}
- Clean up and prune the area that faces the road {working on it}
Install a vegetable garden{Done}Install a sunflower patch{decided for a row along the side of the barn instead}- Plant 2,500 flower bulbs in the fall {Why 2,500? It seemed like a good number to start with}

I started cleaning out the garage yesterday and I just have to put some stuff back in, but 80% done. I figured it was the nice thing to do since I made a mess in it remodeling our laundry room and using all of the hubbys tools and stuff. I am bridging and taping my deck tomorrow so I can put the trex on it this week when the kids are at school. I had the house exterior painted last week and the new septic tank went in. My backyard needs a bunch of topsoil and grass seed or sod, but I haven’t been able to find top soil this late in the season. Monday I have to repair the two sections of 6’ chain link that were removed for access to my yard for the septic installation. I am planning on xeriscaping the front yard as soon as I get a chance before it snows. I leveled it and have had fabric down most of the summer. I have to get my house put back together today and do lots of laundry and clean. My laundry room was down for almost two weeks as the water valves were broken and they had to cut the Sheetrock out and replace the waterlines, surprise! I have to take the camper this week to a dump site and empty it and winterize it because when you get a septic put in and it should take a day it never does. I still have to find someone to put gutters on my house. I’ve called a few for estimates, but they didn’t show up and seemed too busy. I had to remove them and replace tons of rotten fascia, but the gutters were in bad shape and we had several styles the previous owner had pieced together , they were awful. I did build my kids a new sandbox Thursday as the old one ended up being torn up for the septic and there was lots of tears, so that was a priority.
I hope winter doesn’t come until after Halloween because I really need the time to get it all together outside. It is coming together, just takes time and patience.

I made it through the first week of school, which felt like a real marathon this year–so much more to do with pandemic protocols and moving everything back to in-person learning from remote. Now that I’m (mostly) past that craziness, I’m switching my focus to some small projects or goals for the Fall. I think first up will be taking down our summer decor and putting up the fall stuff. After that, I need to see about swapping out our annual herbs for some fall flowers.
I’m also still working on stocking the freezer and a limited number of pantry items (since we don’t have much food storage space). I’m up to about 50 freezer meals, and I just ordered a good amount of pasta since I’m likely going to be too busy to make it from scratch. We have dried beans and rice, so other than making a few more freezer meals, I just need to turn our frozen tomatoes into sauce, turn some frozen chicken bones and veggie scraps into stock, and buy a few cans of diced tomatoes, etc., and I think we’ll be good to go. I’m not necessarily anticipating anything terrible happening this fall or winter where we’ll really need a ton of food on hand, but I prefer to be stocked up this time of year just for convenience and to avoid crowds.

What company do you order your bulbs from?
Thanks!!

I’m thinking your weight is going to be just fine. The bakery will be closing soon for the winter and so no more whole pies for awhile. But just think, you are only 3 lbs from your wedding weight!! I’m sure there are many of us that would like to have only gained 3 lbs since we got married!! Bring on soup season!!

On the “Miss Queenie Hennessy” book- it has been quite a while since I read it, but I remember having that same reaction. Surprised when you find that and wonder why the editor didn’t notice.
Your home is getting more and more beautiful, and you can’t beat the view!

Mavis,
Here in Vermont the roads get dicey in the winter. I have been walking for exercise and bought a pair of Ice Bug ankle boots that are imbedded with cleats to tackle the ice roads. My provider always says to dress for the weather and keep walking! There will be times when even dressing for the weather will be tough. I am considering buying an exercise bike that will not take up too much room and under a $1000. Then I will have a plan B. Then, no excuses!

I’ve been running two miles a day since Covid started in the house…..in circles. I wish I could insert a laughing emoji here but it won’t let me. I know it sounds crazy but I crank up the music and run until my Apple Watch tells me I’ve run two miles. My dog is happy I’m home and it doesn’t require special clothes or shoes. I run in my flip flops. The fast loud music I play puts me in a great mood for the day and it’s actually fun!

I walk in my house, too. I thought I was the only one! LOL! I used to walk in the house to Leslie Sansone videos, but my Fitbit only counts forward motion, not walking in place or side to side, so I just walk back and forth until I have enough steps. My little Chihuahua stares at me, though …

Hey Mavis!
With fall right around the corner, how about making pumpkin and gourd ornaments and garlands maybe an old fashioned black cat too? Not the bright orange and black that you see in the big box store, the antique style of the 20’s & 30’s!

Yes please do ..
