Rhubarb season is right around the corner and before you know it stores will be piled high with the tart and tangy stalks. The best deals on rhubarb seem to be found at the end of people’s driveways though where you’ll find it piled high on card tables, a dozen stalks for $3 or $4. This made me think more about my My Favorite Rhubarb Recipes.
I started seeing rhubarb for sale around town the third week in May last year, and while it’s still a little early yet, that doesn’t stop me from being on the lookout for it.
I’ve made several rhubarb recipes over the years, but this year as I try to keep my grocery expenses to a minimum while still stocking my pantry, I think I’ll be sticking to my all time favorite rhubarb recipe and that’s for rhubarb cinnamon jam.
The ingredients are few, a jar of rhubarb cinnamon jam makes a great hostess gift, and the jam tastes fantastic on a piece of buttered toast.
Today I thought I’d share 11 of my all time favorite rhubarb recipes. Here they are in no particular order.

I made rhubarb butter this week. I doubt I’ll can it. It made enough for a half pint for me and 4 small jars for friends. It is good!

That sounds amazing! Is it the same basic recipe as apple butter?
Diana says
Yes. I found several basic recipes on Pinterest and adjusted ingredients to taste. Rhubarb, sugar, water, lemon juice, and nutmeg. Cooked it down and used my emulsion blender to get a nice purée.

In my neck of the woods, a card table appears at the end of a driveway with FREE rhubarb! I keep watching to see if the sign has appeared…should be any day.

So funny! Our last house has 8 huge rhubarb plants and they were all wonderful producers. I could not even give the rhubarb away as most of my neighbors hate it and nobody I knew liked it. I even put an ad Craigslist trying to give it away and people wanted the plants and not the cut rhubarb. I would cut and freeze what I wanted and let the rest bolt. It was kind of pretty with the dark red stalks, huge green leaves, and 4’ tall white stalk flowers.

Rhubarb strawberry jam is really good too!

Rhubarb is easy enough to grow I think.
The first year you will kill it if you pull even a few stalks, so don’t for the first year.
It likes manure, and to pick, you twist and pull.
It prefers slight shade but grows anywhere reasonably well.
I’m sure there are various sweeter varieties.
Here in Devon , England, we sometimes force it earlier you putting a bucket over it.

We use good cow manure for our rhubarb, and you would be surprised at how well it grows. Just make sure you put it around the plant and bury it well. It will take off and it will thrive!

My first time eating rhubarb was when I tried your rhubarb cherry cobbler. Delicious! Now I’m trying to grow my own (with little success, but still working on it!)
