Online Things
It was another great week in the wool department around here. I think I’m about 50% done with dyeing wool {Hooray!} and about 20% finished with the patterns and kits.
With the deadline I’ve set for myself, this means I only have about 6 weeks to get it all done. I was hoping to get all my ornaments done within this time frame but it’s not looking good. We’ll see.
I am making good progress on my giant whale rug though, so that’s good news.
I’d say I have about 2/3rds of it hooked, My goal was to finish giant rug # 1 {the one I’m working on} by the end of February and giant rug #2 by the end of March.
So far so good on that goal.
Also, I feel like I have finally cracked the code on how to edit and upload photos to the blog and Etsy on my new computer, so that’s good news. It’s still frustrating to use, but I am slowly getting used to using the Mac.
I took Saturday off from the internet and I picked up my phone less last week. Baby steps. It’s all about the baby steps.
- Reach 20,000 sales in Etsy shop MavisButterfield {I’m currently at 18,278}
- In Stock and Ready to Ship by March 31st
- Create 4 new patterns/kits
- Take all new pictures + videos for Etsy shop
- Get as much as humanly possible done online January – March of this year.
- Stop picking up my phone so much {I’m doing great with this!!}
- Spend less than 3 hours a day online {And this too!!}
- Tidy up the back end of the blog
House Things
All I have left to paint is the wall with the pipes on it. Yee-Haw. The cool part about that is, the HH can install everything that’s currently sitting on our coffee table without me doing that!
I am dreading painting that wall!!! And there’s no way of getting around it either, it has to be painted. I plan on taping all the pipes and brackets off this morning so I can just get on with it.
It’s going to be crazy frustrating too. All I can say is I’ll be SO HAPPY when that part is over. I’m thinking I might have to put on some classical music to keep from going nuts.
- Paint The Inside Of The House {including closets!}
- Paint The Interior Window Trim
- Remodel Bathroom #1
- Freshen up Bathroom #2
- Put Stuff On The Walls
- Work on “new” Kitchen Game Plan
Garden Things
Currently waiting for March 1st to arrive so I can start my onion, leek, chive, artichoke and petunia seeds.
I LOVE growing chives! I don’t know what it is about them that I love so much but they are super easy to grow and they look so nice when planted in a row.
Plus once established, you pretty much have a wonderful garnish to add to anything from April until October. Okay, so I guess that’s why I love them so much. 🙂
Note To Self: Have the HH dig the grow lights out of the barn and bring them in the house.
- Grow 365 pounds of food in my teeny tiny backyard.
- Install a side yard {flower} garden
- Make a Potting Bench
- Make a Garden Cart to sell flowers/veggies out front
Kitchen Things
The only thing going on in the kitchen these days is quick meals, tea and chocolate tasting. And that’s okay.
Hang in there I keep telling myself, you’re halfway to the finish line. Power through.
- Try 12 new recipes
- Fill the canning cupboard
New Recipes I’ve Shared This Year
Travel Things
Currently planning two trips right now: My painting holiday and the overseas trip the HH I will be taking later this year.
And by planning, I mean wasting time on the internet when I have a few minutes to dream big. All I have booked so far is a ticket to a particular event. That’s it.
No hotel, no flights, no car rental nada. I guess you could say I’m still in “research” mode. 😉
- Explore more of the great state of Maine
- Go on a painting holiday
- Québec City
- Travel Overseas
- Send the HH on a vacation
Marriage Things
We were supposed to go out to dinner this past week with friends but they cancelled due to the ice on the roads. And in the driveways and on the city sidewalks.
The ice is SERIOUS here this year and has everyone walking like penguins. Every time I step outside the HH is like, BE CAREFUL… If it keeps up, I’m going to need to look into ice climbing gear.
Today we are supposed to get another 8 inches of snow. A far cry from the 19”- 21” that was predicted earlier in the week, but still, a decent amount.
If it wasn’t so windy we’d go for a walk on the beach or something, but it’s even too cold for that.
- Keep my husband busy
- Date days
- Walk more
Secret Projects
No movement on the secret projects, still waiting to finish the giant Etsy/wool project I’m working on before I can get started. It will happen, in good time.
How about YOU? Are you moving forward with YOUR goals for 2025? Tell us about them.
I hope you are staying motivated!

Two words, Mavis: micro spikes. Game changers on ice…
Sue S. says
Yes! They sell them at L.L. Bean, among other places.
Bonnie in GA says
It’s great reading about your goals. It helps get me motivated to get things done around my place. Can’t wait to see the whale rug when you are done. The colors look very nice.
Jill Hamilton says
Hey Mavis,
Today I made 3 of your soups (Panera chicken and rice, cheeseburger and chicken chili)for my in-laws bd dinner. All were delicious and enjoyed by us all. Thank you! (And yes, I’m pooped, lol)
Sue in SoCal says
I can’t wait to see how your artichokes do. I planted one last year that I bought from a nursery as a young plant. It did really well but they were super small. Each row got progressively smaller. By the third row they weren’t worth bothering with. Plant is still going strong and I’m hoping this year will have a larger crop. We’ll see. Fingers crossed.

Hope you have a pattern for the whale rug when it’s finished?? It was a Fair Isle kind of day here on the Cape…..rain, and more rain, turning what snow we had into slushy puddles everywhere. And mud! Never got out of pj”s. Spent the whole day knitting and hooking.
Kristen says
I love reading your goal updates! I do miss your book recommendations. If you listen to a great one, will you still share, pretty please?? Do you listen while painting?
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes and yes! I’ll try and share tomorrow.
Alli Aplet says
Hi Mavis, can you tell me about the valentines chocolates??? They are beautiful!

Emily says
Get yourself some yaktrax. They are a lifesaver on ice, just remember to remove them when you’re back on dry pavement/indoors.
Dawn says
I just bought a pair of YakTrax. The ice is crazy this year!
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes it is!
