1. Get Organized. Bottom line,Β I need to get it together.
When you don’t have a lot of clothing… organizing your new closet is a snap. Took me a whole five minutes.
2. Run, walk or crawl a Marathon, half marathon, 10k, and 5k race this year.
No comment. π
3. Remodel our Master Bathroom, Master Closet and Monkey Boy’s Bathroom.
The guys are installing the glass for the shower and bathroom mirror today. Almost finished!
4. Finish Every Room in Our House.
Lucy the puggle princess has been helping me get some painting done.
5. Turn Spare Bedroom into a Cozy Home Office Space for myself.
I’ll do it this summer.
6.Β Create a Vegetable Garden.
The fence guy will be here on Saturday to give us a bid for the fence. If the price is right we will give him to go ahead and get on the schedule. Ideally, it would be nice to have a fence installed by Mother’s Day. That would give the kids a few days to build me some garden boxes before I set out my tomato plants around the 15th of May. We’ll see.
7.Β Build a Path into the Hillside for Easy Access to the Upper Garden.
Maybe.
8. Limit my personal spending to $100 a month.
I stopped by a garage sale this morning and scored 2Β Adirondack chairs and a matching table for $40. The guy threw in the Coke crate and oil funnel. Talk about a major bargain. The chairs are crazy well made. All I need to do if give everything a good scrub and then we will have some cool chairs to lounge in this summer on the back patio.
Technically, furniture comes out of our furniture budget…. so the furniture doesn’t count against my personal spending money. But, yesterday I did purchase 3 cups of lemonade {1 for Monkey Boy and 2 for me} at the neighbor kids lemonade stand. They were charging $0.50 a cup and set up shop in the morning then again in the afternoon. π π
Total spent in April so far: $2.50.
- In March I spent $42.44.
- In February I Spent $32.52Β
- In January I Spent $84.33
9. Purge… Weekly. Find 10 things each week to donate to the thrift store.
I had more in my pile for this week but Monkey Boy snagged a few things out of it. π A hat, t.p. holder, camera case and 4 stickers were all that made it into the Goodwill bag this week.
10. Read 1 book a week. – My goal is to read 52 books this year
I started listening to A Spool of Blue Thread on audio book last weekend. I made it to disk 8 of 11 before I stopped listening. It was pretty good in the beginning and middle, but towards the end I just lost interest and couldn’t finish it.
11. Slow Down.
I’m slowly hooking away…
12. Canning
I cracked open Mrs. Hillbilly’s Mom’s grape jam and it was delicious! I’m going to see about getting the recipe to share with everyone.
Did you set any goals for this year? If so, how are they coming along?

I love kids’ lemonade stands! They are not seen often enough. I do hope the lemonade stand was HOA approved! The kids might want a flamingo to add some spark to their stand!
Mavis Butterfield says
Ha! Next time they have their stand I will lone them the flock to attract more passerby’s. π Great idea!
Mona says
Those are some crazy high heels you have in your closet Mavis! π
Mavis Butterfield says
I hate high heels. I think I’ve worn them twice but am hanging on to them in case the need arises. π
Lisa says
I’m surprised your HOA doesn’t require a permit to have a lemonade stand!!
Julie says
I love those chairs! They’re fantastic. What a huge score!
Kari says
Do you own any dresses or skirts? Maybe those are hanging elsewhere? I’m trying to minimize, but having a hard time getting quite as good as you. I still have a need for special occasion outfits.
Mavis Butterfield says
I own 1 black knee length dress {for funerals and formal dinners} and 1 brown summery type dress that I’ve had for about 10 years now from Ann Taylor. I’m pretty boring that way.
Tracy L. says
LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. the chairs!! And what a screamin deal!
Helen in Meridian says
OH NO…Don’t give away your Where Is Waldo red and white stocking cap…..NO NO NO.
Mavis Butterfield says
I have another one. π

I absolutely adore your closet. Eventually, I would like mine to look similar – just with less clothes. I recently bought 2 new black shirts and even though they’re different style, realized that I’m only really wearing one because they’re the same color. So I just need fewer clothes, apparently. π I’m trying to keep an eye out for neutral pieces while I’m out thrifting, as I find that’s mostly what I wear. So why buy the other stuff?
I’m very jealous of your garage sale haul! I stopped at a few today, the first of the season up here in Michigan. I was disappointed to purchase a sofa slipcover and not realize until after I got home that it has holes in it… grr! Why on earth would someone knowingly sell it like that? Oh well.
Also, I just have to say, I ran a 5K this morning, and though it wasn’t my best work, I would seriously recommend just getting out there… even if you walk instead of run. I “run” a 40ish minute 5K, but it was nice in a weird way to get sweaty and feel accomplished… plus, the t-shirts are fun. I signed up pretty last-minute just 3 weeks ago and didn’t train, my bad. So all that to say, get out there, Mavis! π If I can do it, I’m fairly sure you can.
Lisa Millar says
I am admitting jealousy over the coke crate!!! Nice pickup! π π
