1. Get Organized.
What a difference a day makes. Even though I don’t like the closet set up in our master bedroom, It’s clean. And I plan to keep it that way until it gets remodeled this spring. Do you think it’s weird I like how empty the shelves are? I wonder if they’ll start to make me a little crazy and I’ll feel the need to put something on them. Hmmm.
2. Run, walk or crawl a Marathon, half marathon, 10k, and 5k race this year.
The battery in my pedometer died so I’ve been tracking how long I walk on my phone. I’m pretty sure there is some sort of walking app/tracker I could be using but I just haven’t had the time to look into it yet. Does anyone know of a free one I can use on my phone?
3. Remodel our Master Bathroom, Master Closet and Monkey Boy’s Bathroom.
4. Finish Every Room in Our House. All I need to do is find a mirror for the powder room and I can cross that room off my list.
5. Turn Spare Bedroom into a Cozy Home Office Space for myself. I am currently working out of the HH’s office and he wants it back {even though all that’s in there is a desk and chair}.
6. Create a Vegetable Garden.
My goal is to have my 10′ x 45′ plot ready to go by the first week in March. The weather here in Western Washington can be a little wonky in January and March so I’m not sure how much digging I’ll get done. I have plenty of projects on my “to do” list though so I know I’ll stay busy. I still need to trim some more branches, pull more weeds, and most importantly test the soil to see what I need to do to amend the soil that’s in the upper garden.
7. Build a Path into the Hillside for Easy Access to the Upper Garden.
8. Limit my personal spending to $100 a month.
I haven’t set foot into a frozen yogurt shop since we’ve lived here, but after my 2 mile walk to Costco, the bank and Target this week I was suddenly in the mood for one. Luckily I wandered in on “no weight Wednesday” when the 12 oz cups were all you can fill for $3.80 plus tax {$4.12}. Cake batter frozen yogurt, strawberries and a chocolate covered banana chip. Yumm-O.
I also picked up 2 red ornament wreaths at Target for 90% off {$2 each +tax}. When I first saw them back in November I thought they’d be perfect to hang in my kitchen windows during the holidays but I was not interested in paying $20 a piece for them. So I waited, and hoped I’d be able to snag them when they went on clearance. 🙂
Total spent so far this month $8.46. Still have $91.54
9. Purge… Weekly. Find 10 things each week to donate to the thrift store.
I cleaned out our closet and found 1 strainer, 1 giant pack of straws {why did I even buy those?} 1 pair of sandals, 2 hats, 1 book, 1 frame,5 fancy tea napkins, and 17 articles of clothing to donate. Purging feels goooooood.
10. Read 1 book a week. – My goal is to read 52 books this year
Done. Although I loved Yes Please by Amy Poehler, I was surprised she was a total pot head in her 20’s. It was a great book, super funny and I highly recommend it.
11. Slow Down. – Do one thing for myself each week.
I carved about an hour out this week to spend on rug hooking. It made me happy, but the whole time I was working on my project I thought I should be doing something else. Geez, why can’t I just relax?
12. Canning – I’d like to open my pantry at the end of the year and have rows and rows of home canned goodness staring back at me.
Good things come to those who wait. If it takes 3 days to make something, you can bet your bottom dollar I’m going to be keeping most of it. 😉 This cranberry orange marmalade was freakin’ fantastic.
Did you set any goals for this year? If so, how are they coming along?

Map My Walk/Run is an app you can use. Great score on the wreaths! It just kills me that I can’t shop the after Christmas sales for things like that. We are traveling in a motorhome (currently doing a caretaker job for the winter) and there’s just not the room. Great way to keep from accumulating “stuff”, though!
Mavis Butterfield says
Thanks for the app advice. And you are right, traveling in a motor-home would be a great way to stop accumulating “stuff.”

The fitness consultants where I work recommend “Map My Walk/Run” it’s a great app, free and easy to use.

I habe 2 goals this year. Yes, I know sounds odd. One is something I do every year, try and do a good deed every day I go out of my house. Usually works too. The second, I’m taking you up on the read a book a month for 52 books this year. I work nights, reading relaxes me so when I get home, I read for an hoir or 2. Um, I’m on book #3 for the year. Need to slow down and crochet more.

You inspired me to do my own goals this year. I loved reading your last year plus all the updates. Tonight I’m going to the spa which is one goal (do something for myself once a month).

You could add some vintage Valentines or any kind of hearts to the wreaths to use for Valentine’s Day, too!

Pacer is a great pedometer to use and also recommend Map my walk/run.I use both when I am out for a walk. Map my walk also tells you when you’ve done a mile and how long it took.

Try the Walk for a Dog app. It tracks your walks, shows distance and speed. Best of all, they will donate money to the animal shelter of your choice.

Thanks Sue!

I have a goal to purge 2000 things from our house this year. So far I’m at 309 and have so much more to go through. It’s amazing how much stuff we can accumulate. We only moved into our house 4 years ago, and I know I did a big purge then. But having young children seems to make the stuff appear.
Mavis Butterfield says
Wowza! 2000 items is a great goal. 🙂

I use Sports Tracker. It maps my route, gives current speed, overall pace, distance, journals your work outs and shares it with people you choose. I share with my half marathon buddy so we can keep each other motivated.

Hee! Hee! I have to ask. Did you walk back home with the red Christmas wreaths around your neck or one around each arm? I would have love to have seen you walking down the street or better yet, to see the looks on peoples face as you walked. Great score by the way.
As for your book reading, I came across this challenge. read52booksin52weeks.com I it’s a fun way to figure out what books to read.
Happy New year, Cindy

Hey, is that a bottle of Watkins lemon hand soap in your powder room? I sell Watkins products and love when I see them randomly in people’s homes! Have you ever tried the lavender? My absolute, all-time favorite! 🙂
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes it is! I have not tried the lavender yet. 🙂

The best apps for running/walking are the Nike app or Runkeeper 🙂
