1. Get Organized.
Instead of organizing this week, I decided to pull out the cupboards in my son’s bathroom and attempt to re-stain them. If I am successful, this will save us from having to buy a new {more updated} vanity unit for his bathroom when it’s time to remodel. We’ll see. I’m not very confident it will work, but I figure it’s worth a try.
2. Run, walk or crawl a Marathon, half marathon, 10k, and 5k race this year.
I haven’t signed up for anything yet, but I’ve been walking everyday.
3. Remodel our Master Bathroom, Master Closet and Monkey Boy’s Bathroom.
Chino stopped by the house yesterday to take measurements and to talk about the remodel. I’m still waiting for his bid, but we did decide to add a window in the bathroom. Yay!
4. Finish Every Room in Our House.
5. Turn Spare Bedroom into a Cozy Home Office Space for myself.
6. Create a Vegetable Garden.
Yesterday I installed a nice big hedge alongside the patio. The hedge will hide a potting bench {once I find one} and a few other garden accessories. I’m hoping to stop by the Home Depot this weekend to buy supplies for the new garden boxes I plan in make later this month.
7. Build a Path into the Hillside for Easy Access to the Upper Garden.
8. Limit my personal spending to $100 a month.
If eating an entire bag of Brach’s Cinnamon Gummi Hearts in 2 days is wrong… I don’t want to be right. They were delicious. It was money well spent. I have no regrets. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Total spent so far this month $84.33. Still have $15.67
9. Purge… Weekly. Find 10 things each week to donate to the thrift store.
I spy with my little eye, 3 articles of clothing, 1 golf glove, 1 crocheted Frisbee {?} 1 pint glass, 10 party invitations, 1 Girls Doodle Book, 1 Biology cheat sheet, 1 giant bag of markers.
10. Read 1 book a week. – My goal is to read 52 books this year
This past week I read Still Alice. You need to read it. And then afterwards, wonder if you might have Alzheimer’s every time you forget something. I highly recommend the book.
11. Slow Down. –
I felt like stitching birds… so I did. Now I just need to turn them into pin keeps. Caw!Caw!
12. Canning – I didn’t get a chance to can anything last week but I do have my eye on a new recipe. Stay tuned!
Did you set any goals for this year? If so, how are they coming along?

Re canning, in my cleaning, found a recipe that I discovered two years ago: Blackberry Balsamic Jam! Sounded interesting back then [was working for a Mom and Pop eatery, whose “Mom” had high taste, thus her recipe collection was really something!] Still sounds good. Now only need to not lose it for when blackberry season comes.
Your purging is inspiring!

Ha- I burst out laughing when I saw those birds. Have you ever watched Portlandia? My husband and I watched a couple episodes on Netflix the other night and there’s this little segment about how people in Portland like to put birds on everything.

Oh my goodness, I had the same experience after reading “Still Alice.” I’m sure we’re not alone! I thought it was a really insightful read and it sounds like the movie is really well-done. From a writing perspective, I did occasionally think it was a little forced (like the author had a pre-determined list of symptoms and stories and was inserting them, if that makes sense), but still a really interesting and important book!

I think you need that Linen Cabinet in all your bathrooms. Forget the aesthetics, your house needs more built in cabinets for linens and such. You have fewer cabinets in this house and need more deep storage, like linens.

Chino said we are keeping the cabinets. He said we are not like normal people because we don’t have a lot of “stuff” and that we need the cabinet space. 🙂 Ha! Have you been talking to him?

I think you will do just fine with refinishing your vanity, and save a sizable amount of money. I used to refinish furniture, just remember less is plenty with stain. If they are real wood be sure to sand them well, if they are laminate you might be better off painting them. And COVER everything, spills and drips are hard to fix.

Those Brach’s cinnamon hearts have been my favorite for years, but this year when I picked up my once-a-year bag, they tasted weird/”chemical-like” to me. I wound up throwing most of the bag away, and that NEVER happened in the past.

I LOVED Still Alice. It made me cry, it made me laugh, I was happy, I was sad. It was everything

Dumb question.the hedge aren’t the bushes really close together since they are going to get pretty big? Or are they a miniature type? Oh and yes most people can’t get enough storage!!
Mavis Butterfield says
I planted the bushes close together so that in 3 years, I will have a nice looking hedge. I plan to keep them trimmed to 6 feet. 🙂

I hesitate to mention it, but are you “playing it safe” with the landscape choices since you plan on reselling within a few years? I mean, you are choosing what I see as the most boring of all plants! Sorry! You used to think outside the box and come up with some great plant ideas. When I saw you transplanted boxwoods to your empty front planters I couldn’t believe it! Boxwood? Aren’t they the single-most boring plant ever? Those boxes were a blank canvas, and you are such an artist! When I think of what you could have done…!
Arborvitae?
You have a big personality (from your online presence!) , but (forgive me) the new house and landscaping just doesn’t show it. Maybe it’s a matter of a HOA?
On another note, I ordered those Nordstrom’s lip glosses for my daughter. She went nuts when she saw their price! I also got her the fingerless gloves with the “fur” on top. Really nice, nicer than they even look! We are ordering other colors. Your great deal posts are my favorite! Thanks.

As far as landscaping goes… I’ve only just begun. 🙂
