All my presents are wrapped. Giddy up!
2. Run, walk or crawl a Marathon, half marathon, 10k, and 5k race this year.
I asked The Girl if she wanted to walk 26.2 miles with me next week and she was like …. “Uhhhh I guess so. We’ve walked 17 miles together before so I’m pretty sure I can do it.” That’s my girl!
3. Remodel our Master Bathroom, Master Closet and Monkey Boy’s Bathroom.Oh what a difference a little tile, 2 cans of stain, some free sinks and a new light fixture made. I finally finished staining Monkey Boy’s cupboards and now his bathroom is done. When it comes time to list the house I’ll hang some new hand towels, put a little trinket in between the sinks and we’ll be good to go. {Note: The cupboards are not actually that dark. Getting a good photo in there is a little tough.}
4. Finish Every Room in Our House.
All I have left to do is paint. We’ll get the roof cleaned and replace the carpet the week before we sell the joint. {Not that I’m thinking that far in advance or anything}.
5. Turn Spare Bedroom into a Cozy Home Office Space for myself.
Lucy stole the spare bedroom and I stole the HH’s office.
6. Create a Vegetable Garden.
I decided to take the month of December off from gardening and work on my secret project instead. No worries though, it’s still there.
7. Build a Path into the Hillside for Easy Access to the Upper Garden.
We built a fence instead.
8. Limit my personal spending to $100 a month.
I went on a wool buying binge {$172.10} last night because The Wool Studio is offering 15% off orders placed by Christmas Eve {it’s the first time in 10+ years of buying wool from them that I’ve ever seen a discount}. I wasn’t planning on buying any more wool until their next flyer came out but 15% off? I’ll take it. 🙂
So far in December I’ve spent $186.05
In November I spent $71.29
In October I Spent $128.19
In September I Spent $28.73
In August I Spent $27.29
In July I Spent $50.82
In June I Spent $6.00.
In May I Spent $26.50.
In April I Spent $18.46.
In March I Spent $42.44.
In February I Spent $32.52
In January I Spent $84.33
9. Purge… Weekly. Find 10 things each week to donate to the thrift store.
10. Read 1 book a week.
This week America’s Cheapest Family is on my nightstand and I’m hoping to learn something new. Have you read the book?
11. Slow Down.
Blogger by day hooker by night. My life is a thrill a minute.
12. Canning
Even though I’ve got a case of the winter blues this year {IT WON’T STOP RAINING} I am grateful for all the jam I put up this past summer. I just popped a batch of whole grain blackberry bars in the oven and am giddy about gobbling a few up this afternoon.
Did you set any goals for this year? If so, how are they coming along?

Have you read Zero Wast Home yet? I found it really inspiring and on the same lines as saving but in a different form.
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes. I read it as a way to save money…

I have already read that book and found some good ideas that have helped me out. I love reading your weekly goals as it helps me remember mine. I can’t wait to see next year’s goals.
Mavis Butterfield says
They are going to be CRAZY. 🙂 I can’t wait to write about them.
Heidi says
I can’t wait to see your goals for next year too. I have really enjoyed reading about them this past year. It makes me look at my goals when I start reading yours. Keep writing about them. Thanks

Lately, I have been reading your blog every single day. Therefore I know that blogger by day, hooker by night is not a reference to your wanton sexual exploits. Thanks for the laugh.
I especially like the links to the Amazon sale stuff. Thanks for the fun.
Mavis Butterfield says
Ahhhh. So good to know. LOL.

Your carpet doesn’t look that bad to me (at least in the pics). And what is cleaning your roof? Maybe I am really dense ( a huge possibility), but I have never heard of anyone doing that.
Sandy says
I used to live in Indiana and never heard of cleaning a roof till I moved to Oregon. Here we do not have hard freezes and we have lots and lots (and lots) of rain. Hence, everything is beautifully green — including roofs. You have to get the moss and mold and leaves cleaned off of your roof and out of your gutters. One of the downsides to all of the beauty brought by the rain.
Mavis Butterfield says
We have a sloped tile roof. It will need to be pressure washed before we list the house. Totally something to have a professional do.
Kari says
Just a suggestion, consider offering a small carpet allowance in your listing rather than replacing it yourself. Many buyers will want to choose their own flooring whether you have just replaced it or not, and will reflect this in their offer.
Mavis Butterfield says
I thought about that but for some strange reason the upstairs hallway is lined with snap together fake wood laminate. It’s the strangest thing ever and dates the house big time in my opinion. If we were to leave it that way {and not lay padding and carpet over it} I think it throws the whole house off since everything else has been updated. Another option might be to remove the carpet from the master bedroom closet and place that upstairs in the hallway and replace the master suite carpet with new carpet. I don’t know. I’ll have to see what Patrick O’Malley the Irish realtor says.

I had goals for the year (some were even written down), but they all went out the window when my mom said she wanted to move into assisted living near us in January. Well, mom never settled in and died in April. Then I was made executor of her estate (had to empty a complete house in another state, etc). Maybe by February 2016 (I hope) I will be done with everything associated with the estate and then I can go back to figuring out my own goals.
Oh, and a year ago we took your advice and bought the LG front loading washing machine. I can say I love it . Thanks for posting about the speed washing setting – until you posted that I hadn’t even noticed it on the front (can you tell I have been overwhelmed for the last year?).
I hope you have a Merry Christmas and I love reading your posts (especially about Lucy).
Mavis Butterfield says
Heather I am sorry to hear about your mother. 🙁 Here’s hoping 2016 will be a better year for you. Wishing you all the best.

A couple of years ago, I finally succeeded in created a meaningful list of my own goals. The key for me was checking in regularly to be sure I’m staying on the right path. So now, when you give us an update on your goals progress, I check in on my own. The results have been wonderful. Thanks! 🙂
As for the carpet, I’m with Kari. In addition to what she said, I’d like to add that if you replace it, and they don’t like it, they’ll get rid of it. It’d be nice if they repurposed it, but they’ll most likely toss it. Complete waste of money and resources. Just my two cents.
