1. Get Organized.
I finally got around to organizing the garage last week. Well, most of it anyway. π I was also able to get out storage closet cleaned out and find a bunch more things to donate to the Goodwill.
2. Run, walk or crawl a Marathon, half marathon, 10k, and 5k race this year.
Lucy the puggle princess and I went on a few long walks this week. I still have not signed up for any races, but I’m hoping too next month.
3. Remodel our Master Bathroom, Master Closet and Monkey Boy’s Bathroom.
When Chino was here last week we decided to go ahead and install a window above where the toilet is now and a toilet room where he is standing. We are planning on starting the second week in March {after he finishes up Mrs. HB’s kitchen remodel}. The HH and Monkey Boy are planning on doing most of the demo work to save a few bucks so the next couple of weeks should be interesting. π
4. Finish Every Room in Our House.
5. Turn Spare Bedroom into a Cozy Home Office Space for myself. I am currently working out of the HH’s office and he wants it back {even though all that’s in there is a desk and chair}.
6.Β Create a Vegetable Garden.Β My plans on on hold until I hear back from the HOA.
7.Β Build a Path into the Hillside for Easy Access to the Upper Garden.
8.Β Limit my personal spending to $100 a month.
I am in LOVE with my newΒ Flexrake Flower and Vegetable Tiller. I don’t know why I didn’t buy one sooner.Β
I stopped by Target to pick up some shampoo and well, somehow a bag of Dove chocolates jumped into my cart. π They are all gone now but TOTALLY worth the splurge in my opinion.
Total spent so far this month $17.11 Still have $82.89
In January I Spent $84.33
9. Purge… Weekly. Find 10 things each week to donate to the thrift store.
3 Sundae dishes, an old pair of glasses, a gas fireplace key, a creme brulee’ torch {somehow we had 3} and a few other random things made their way to the Goodwill bag this week.
10. Read 1 book a week. – My goal is to read 52 books this year
I’m saving 3 of my books to read on a long flight I have planned for later this month but I’m hoping to finish The Last Lecture and As You Wish before I take off.
11. Slow Down. –
Rug hooking seems to be catching my attention lately. I finished this primitive Easter Bunny rug last night. I think I am going to back it with some wool fabric and turn it into a pillow.
12. Canning – Life was sort of crazy last year and I feel like I sorta fell off the canning wagon and I’d like to hop back on it this year. Ideally, I’d like to open my pantry at the end of the year and have rows and rows of home canned goodness staring back at me.
Did you set any goals for this year? If so, how are they coming along?

I too, made the rugs that “Diana” is describing. I am also interested to know the answers to this question.

I love that tool! I couldn’t tell from the picture on Amazon — is it set up to accept a longer handle? I would love to try this in more of a standing position, like a hoe.
Mavis Butterfield says
I suppose you could remove the handle…
Diana says
Mavis- can you do a post on rug hooking? The only kind of rug hooking I have ever done requires a tool, and came out like a shag carpet. Your rugs look beautiful and look like they’re sewn. where do you find the patterns and supplies ( I know it’s probably Amazon) but I’d love to know more ..
Mavis Butterfield says
I wonder if you are thinking of latch hooking? Hmmm.
I am going to do a 3 or 4 part rug hooking series starting tomorrow. π Stay tuned.

I agree with Diana! I would love some info. on where you get those rugs. I hooked rugs way back in the day when I was a teenager but they look nothing like the cool ones you make. Thanks!!!

HI!! I got one of those tools just today at Walmart. Love. Do you realize you could sell your cast offs and make money to help the bottom line. There is craigslist and facebook local classifieds!

Hey Mavis,
I can’t tell from your photo of the garden beds or not, but is there enough space between the beds to run the lawn mower? Just a thought, but I currently have 4 raised bed (that the previous home owner installed) that have grass between them, but there is not enough space to run the mower. It drives me nuts because my HH has to weed wack the grass and I don’t like the blades of grass everywhere!
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes. It’s hard to tell from the photo but there is a mowing strip in there.

Don’t forget to get the HOA’s ok on that window for you bathroom. π , we are moving to a new state this year, and the one thing I had my husband make sure was that it was in an area that didn’t have an HOA which was hard to find. Can’t wait to see your new bathroom, that is the first thing I want to re-do in our new home.
Carol says
Margery, that was my first thought, too! I hope it all goes well, Mavis!

Why, why ,and why would ANYONE want to live somewhere where SOMEONE else dictates what you can do to YOUR home you are paying a mortgage and taxes for?????
I love your web site and I was shocked when you moved to this new place!
I say RUN, you are too gifted and creative to be TRAPPED somewhere like thist!!!!!
