Would you believe I have set out painting supplies to out 3 TIMES so I could finish up the laundry room so far this year? Yes. Yes I have. But because I am a MAJOR slacker… my supplies are still sitting on the counter. Fingers crossed I can get it together this weekend and finish once and for all!
2. Run, walk or crawl a Marathon, half marathon, 10k, and 5k race this year.
I’ve mapped out a route for my upcoming marathon. Now I just need to drive it and see if the mileage is correct and pick a sunny day to walk/jog it.
3. Remodel our Master Bathroom, Master Closet and Monkey Boy’s Bathroom.
This is Monkey Boy’s bathroom and there is no natural light in there so that’s why the picture is kind of dark. We did install a towel rack to the left of the shower but the plain door makes me a little crazy. What would you do here? Add a shower curtain or just hang some “no touch” towels on the towel bar on the shower door?
4. Finish Every Room in Our House.
Working on it. And seriously, now that I’ve got a chair in the family room…. technically the house doesn’t need anything else. I would like to still find a smaller dining room table and a fiddle leaf tree though and hang a few more things on the walls.
5. Turn Spare Bedroom into a Cozy Home Office Space for myself.
6. Create a Vegetable Garden.
I am patiently waiting for Thanksgiving so I can harvest my beets and roast them.
7. Build a Path into the Hillside for Easy Access to the Upper Garden.
We built a fence instead.
8. Limit my personal spending to $100 a month.
I picked up an etched drinking glass, and old ice cream scoop and some thread last week when I was on the east coast. I love the little thrift store there. It has such great deals on DMC floss and other random things.
I also And of course, let’s not forget the amazing chair I picked up at The Goodwill I picked up for $1.99. I also snagged a saucepan for $2.99 as well. My $10 off LLBean coupon finally arrived so now I have $60 saved {in coupons and gift cards} to go towards my Bean boots. Only $40 more to go until I can order them {for free!!}.
So far in November I’ve spent $9.46
In October I Spent $128.19
In September I Spent $28.73
In August I Spent $27.29
In July I Spent $50.82
In June I Spent $6.00.
In May I Spent $26.50.
In April I Spent $18.46.
In March I Spent $42.44.
In February I Spent $32.52
In January I Spent $84.33
9. Purge… Weekly. Find 10 things each week to donate to the thrift store.
Been there done that. 😉
10. Read 1 book a week.
This week I picked up Gertruda’s Oath: A Child, a Promise, and a Heroic Escape During World War II and The Pollan Family Table Cookbook. I feel like I’ve been in a recipe rut lately and I’d like to try some new recipes. So far the cookbook is amazing.
11. Slow Down.
This past week I hooked a 39″ table runner and I LOVE how it turned out. Now all that’s left to do is finish the back and get it listed on Etsy.
12. Canning .
I haven’t canned anything in a few weeks but I do have some new recipes I’d like to try.
Did you set any goals for this year? If so, how are they coming along?

Re: the shower door, perhaps find some groovy stencils and etch the glass into a neat design, or for a less permanent solution, find some tasteful decals? I am not on pinterest, but I bet something there might be inspirational. Etsy has some decals, as well.

This past week I completed two goals: staining the deck, and trying at least 52 new recipes this year (so far I’m at 53).
Mavis Butterfield says
I am totally stealing your idea for trying 52 new recipes for next year. And staining the deck? That’s on my list for the East Coast house for next summer. We are twins Mes. Chow. Now, if I only had a ton of fruit trees like you do I’d be super happy.

You mentioned the bathroom did not receive any natural light, and I wondered if you had ever considered installing a Solartube (or one of the other brand names). We lived in the PNW for years (Portland), and having Solartubes installed was a revelation – we had one put in a bathroom without natural light, and another at the top of our dark stairwell. I was amazed at how much light they provided, even on the gloomiest of days. When we sold our house, they were one of the features that was often remarked on, and that people liked.
I have to admit I like the plain shower door. It looks very sleek, clean and modern (although that may not have been the effect you going for).

We do have some skylights in the family room and I think they are great. I just don’t want to spend the money to install them in a kids bathroom.
Janet says
We have 2 Solotubes in our kitchen and I love them. Sometimes they add so much light I have to check and make sure I didn’t leave the lights on. A lot of times it is enough light that we don’t need to turn the lights on. I have 2 more waiting for my husband to put in the family room. I really like them.

Hi Mavis,
What color of Behr paint are you painting your baseboards and trim. I want to paint all of mine white. Thanks!
Mavis Butterfield says
When we remodeled the house I saved a piece of trim from the old mantel {which is also the color of the trim} and brought it into Home Depot to have it matched. Unfortunately is was a custom color match so I don’t have a color name to give you. Sorry. 🙁

What about wall or window clings for MB’s shower doors? They would brighten it up without long term commitment.

I got one if the $10 off LL Bean coupons too. If you can stack them you can have mine! Just email me and let me know how to get it to you.
Mavis Butterfield says
Oh I wish I could but the coupons are tied to our mailing addresses. Thank you SO MUCH for offering though.
