For our fall craftcation adventure The Girl and I decided to stay at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, Maine. And let me tell you, it was the perfect spot for our mini holiday.
Not only was the hotel within walking distance to area beaches, Dock Square and other area attractions, but our stay included a glorious breakfast buffet as well.
Talk about one stop shopping! I love when you can show up somewhere, park your car and not have to get back in it until it’s time to go home.
We booked a room with a view of the water {and were pleasantly upgraded to an even nicer room with a view!}. Our room even came with the cutest gas stove which warmed the room nicely.
Area airbnbs started at around $250+ fees, the Hampton Inn {on the other side of town/freeway and not within walking distance of anything} was $159 a night and our rate at the Nonantum Resort was $229.
And it was totally worth it to us! Being centrally located is a HUGE plus when you are on vacation if you ask me.
And, as an added bonus, we were there on Halloween so we got to see all the little kiddos dressed up in their costumes and trick or treating at all the local businesses downtown. It was super cute!
The Girl even found a few pieces of candy on the ground the next morning {that we ate!!}. 🙂
We collected clam shells and pretty rocks twice a day as we walked on the beach. We even logged about 7 miles each day as well.
While walking we spotted the usual things left behind; a single shoe, shirts, goggles, beach toys and a hardback book. Some things never change.
The Girl worked on hats and I worked on my hooked rugs.
We even had dinner in the hotel pub, Heckman’s I think it’s called. She had the clam chowder and I had the tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich.
We drank our usual Shirley Temples of course.
But the breakfast buffet. HOLY COW MAN.
I was so excited I hardly got any pictures.
This is what ended up on my breakfast plate though. Fresh fruit, a spinach artichoke frittata, hash browns with bits of beef, ham, overnight oats and a mini doughnut with a delicious citrus glaze.
Plus a glass of orange juice and tea!
I think if I could have any job in the world, I’d be a travel writer. I don’t know about you, but I love staying in new places and exploring on foot.
Staying at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, Maine was the perfect low key, mini holiday. I’m so glad we went.
How about YOU? Where was the last hotel you stayed at that you absolutely loved? Curious minds want to know.

We like Comfort Inn’s breakfast buffet but it is not nearly as fancy as the one you pictured. I usually get scrambled eggs with sausage gravy on top plus a bagel with cream cheese and strawberry jelly plus apple juice. My husband gets the same breakfast he eats at home: cold cereal with milk plus orange juice.

My all time favorite hotel is The Dominican Fiesta in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. I get a great feeling just walking up the stairs to the entrance. On either side of the steps there are pools with turtles either swimming or sunning themselves on the rocks! The local flowers in the lobby are always magnificent and the porters greet me by name even if I have not been there for a year or two. There is a great buffet for breakfast and attentive tableside service on the covered deck. I love it that tiny birds come up to eat whatever morsels you drop from your plate. I usually get a room with a great view of both the pool and skyline of the city. I love Maine but sometimes when the winters seem endless….this is my go to place.

I went to see my kids in England
(son, dil, grandkids) as well as various friends. Since there house is so tiny I’ve been staying for the two weeks I’m there at an old in right in town…comfy, friendly, convenient and a huge breakfast with a buffet plus anything cooked for me that I could ask for! It’s my home away from home! And I can walk all over town.

I love reading about your adventures with The Girl. My kids are still little (Dino Boy is 3 and Sunshine Girl is 1.5) and it’s so fun to think about all of the things I get to look forward to over the years with them!

It’s so nice to stay somewhere and not have to deal with the cooking and cleaning that come with an AirBNB. I would much rather stay at a full-service hotel than do extra work when I’m on a vacation. Adding the Nonantum to my list.
