Yesterday I attended the Seattle Garden Show. Out of all the neat-o displays, this simple reclaimed wooden pallet garden was my favorite. I have been looking for an excuse to dig up and relocate my perennial herb garden {to make room for more tomato plants}. Now I have one.
All I need to do is find a few wood pallets.
The basic design is simple. Using a heavy-duty staple gun attach landscape fabric to the back of the pallet. Lay the pallet flat, fill with potting soil and add herbs. Voila! Instant herb garden.
Now if you’ll excuse me… I need to make some phone calls. Must. Find. Free. Pallets.

Love, love, love! I have never grew anything other than a Chia Pet I recieved once as a gag gift, but have dreamed of doing a fun herb garden as I don’t have a lot of room and this would be perfect. Forgive me for asking, but where do you find landscape fabric? I am guessing more Home Depot/Lowes vs. Joanns, right? Plus, I like the idea of setting it upright against my house as I only have a sliver of sun in my backyard.

Yes, You can buy landscape fabric at Home Depot or Lowes. 🙂 Send me a picture if you make one.

Please take precautions when looking for a pallet to make into a vertical garden as many are made from treated wood that can be harmful to you.
Take care and I can’t wait to see what you come up with!!
Mavis says
Thanks Peggy, I’ll look for untreated ones. 🙂

Awesome idea!!

Very cool! And easy to fit in small places. This could be a great project for those in the city or apartments or duplexes … I am going to pass this idea on to some relatives.

Maybe you can find a free pallet at a warehouse. I used to work at one and sometimes if a board was broken and we couldn’t use it, they’d throw them out.

I am so glad to find your space here at 3 am in the morning !
I am praying for Spring to come early every day here a Surfside Beach, SC.
We have just recieved 2-3 inches of ice, followed by a dusting of Snow !!!
Finally as I was crawling out from under my house,( where I have been for the better part of 2 days attempting to thaw out frozen pipes,) & it is now misting rain which is better I think or it would be better if it were not 28′ outside…..God has a great since of humor doesn’t He.???? I say all this because I just moved here to get away from all the snow, ice etc. Ha Ha Ha !!!! Some of my neighbors did not even have heat in these beach homes !!!! The kids are sliding on the beach on the ice covered sand !!!
So with all this being said, I hope you know how much I have enjoyed reading all about pallet gardening & container gardening & just dreaming of digging in the dirt early. I did plant a great little garden last spring I seem to have a lot to learn about growing veggies & flowers in sand because my yield lacked a lot to be desired. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !
Thank you so much for all of these great ideas !!! I am so excited to find your space here. ! Now all I can think about is what I want to get started on, Too excited to sleep ….. Thanks again…… God Bless !!!! Cheryle Klein, (smile)
