The HH flew to southern California last week to visit a friend and pretty much as soon as his plane landed he made a b-line to In-N-Out for a double double, fries and a strawberry shake. Oh how I miss In-N-Out!!!
I think he must have felt a little guilty though because on my way back from picking him up at the airport he suggested we stop by Lil’s Cafe for one of their famous crullers. And while not quite the same as an In-N-Out burger… It was still a winner.
Market Basket $56.59
Staying at an Airbnb is kind of weird. Especially since the wait to close on our new place seems like it’s taking forever.
Sometimes I feel like whipping something up here, and sometimes I don’t. It still feels like we’re on vacation, but we’re not {we just don’t have any of our stuff, except clothing} and I’m still not used to it.
Even though we sold our house totally furnished, we didn’t leave everything behind.
We may not have any furniture {except for the craft tables and racks} or silverware {we did keep some plates and baking dishes} or much in the way of pots and pans, {I did keep 2 pots} using the random kitchen things here at the place where we’re staying still feels kind of strange.
It shouldn’t, but it does. Also, there’s the simple fact that our schedules are so totally out of whack isn’t helping. It feels like we are on vacation… But in a slow motion kind of way.
I am enjoying all the salads we’ve been eating though.
Take Out $9.41 {!!}
I know, I know, I don’t know how much salmon is going for at the grocery store these days but sometimes take out is just easier. Especially when it already comes prepared and topped with a fancy glaze.
Plus it was enough for 2 salads!
You can never go wrong with a baked potato.
A friend brought us dinner. Yipee!
And of course we had weenies and chips twice.
I have ZERO meal plans for this week. Zero. There’s some leftover salad things in the fridge, a package of kung pao chicken in the freezer, some tzatziki dip and some hot dogs. After that… Who knows what we’ll be eating.

Last time I was near a Trader Joe’s ( 5 hrs away) I picked up the prepared meatloaf in refrigerated section. We liked it and so easy.
Also recommend the lemon ricotta ravioli. I topped it with pesto.
Mavis Butterfield says
Lemon ricotta ravioli sounds interesting! I am going to look for that one next time. Thanks.
Annette says
Had the meatloaf tonight. It’s one of our favorites.

The salad looks delicious! I’m curious about the round item to the left of the avocado, though. Is that another type of tomato in your salad?
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes, it’s a tomato. We bought a caprese salad last week and it was in the tub of goodness. 🙂 https://www.onehundreddollarsamonth.com/it-was-a-fantastic-week-in-the-food-department/

We’ve been busy lately and eaten out quite a bit. It’s nice, but not practical. On the other hand we have so much stuff that’s not convenient to cook…I think that’s what is prohibitive.

We live in Alaska so when we travel out of state, In-N-Out is always on our list. Recently he flew to the west coast and I received a gorgeous “I miss you” card. Inside was a wrapper from In-N-Out, just to torture me!!
Mavis Butterfield says
HA HA HA that’s funny. Husbands!
Sue in SoCal says
I think you scored on the salmon for that price! The easiest way I know to make it is using Yoshidas cooking sauce and broil it for 9 minutes. Perfect every time and yummy.
Ah, In-N-Out. We go regularly. Like almost weekly, whenever we hit up Walmart. Gotta love ’em.
Just wondering… when you do settle in your new house are you going to be in for some major buying sprees for all the things you left behind or does your new house come completely furnished and would you want all their stuff? Curious minds.
Zadu says
Wait a minute.
Is that KETCHUP I see on that hot dog?
Ketchup? On a hot dog?
Oh, my.
You don’t deserve In-n-Out if you do stuff like that!
(I know… we shouldn’t discuss religion on your website…!)

I’m curious – did you leave your gorgeous canning cupboard too? Will you replace the Aga?
From Canada,
Gail
Mavis Butterfield says
The canning cupboard and AGA went with the house. I’m not sure what we’ll do yet for a stove at the new place.
Sue says
Dang, those crullers look amazeballs. I’d have bought an even dozen. Imagine them for breakfast, split, toasted, and filled with a fried egg, turkey sausage patty, and cheese.
