Quote of the day: “Slow down and enjoy life. It’s not only the scenery you miss by going to fast – you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.” ~ Eddie Cantor

Good morning, Mavis. Your day sounds as satisfying as mine will be. I have to work this morning, then this afternoon I plan to sit and watch Netflix while I work on my knitting. I look forward to the quiet afternoon! I hope yours is wonderful, too.
Mavis Butterfield says
Thanks Stacey, have a great day. 🙂

Hi Mavis,
As you peruse the items at the recycle center — and other places where you seek collectibles, etc. — you may want to keep your eye out for maple syrup buckets. (That is, if you are planning to try your hand at collecting sap and making syrup this year.)
You can buy plastic buckets, but they are bright blue and not as attractive as the old metal ones, which are certainly more in keeping with your traditional aesthetic.
If you need other supplies and a primer on sugaring, tapmytrees.com is a very good site.
Have a great day and a good walk!
Mavis Butterfield says
I have had my eye out for those! Just found out a neighbor down the street has some sugaring experience so who knows…. Maybe a sugar shack is in our future.

I love your new Saturday format!
Mavis Butterfield says
Me too! 🙂 It feels so good to just do one big post on Saturdays along with all the other highlights rather than 5 deal posts during the week. 🙂

I never really cared about the daily deals, I mean I looked through them…but as I am terminally broke and now even more so thanks to the shutdown, I didn’t care. But I have to say, I miss the E-books as I’d go put something on hold at the library if it piqued my interest.
Mim says
Many of us are thinking of you and pulling for the shutdown to be over soon. Thank you and your colleagues for all you do every day to keep the country running. We would be lost without you.
Mrs. M says
I agree, Cheryl!
I rarely if ever looked at anything in the Daily Deals…. EXCEPT the ebooks! I will miss that one part but will be checking out the books on Saturdays.
Mavis Butterfield says
I’ll try and up my ebook list on Saturdays from 6 books to 9. That’s how I find books I want to listen to as well. 🙂

I think that funny thing on the side of your house is for a clothes line. I think the teeth are to tighten the rope to make it taunt so the rope won’t sag…. Lucy by the fire is adorable, as usual!!
Diana says
Def get the heater in that sunroom. That is where I work on sunny days in KS. It’s blissful.
Lynda Kling says
I think that video you showed of Jane Eyre is one I saw on an international flight that had me drooling at all of her wonderful knitted garments!!!!
Lynda says
Do you still have ornaments left for sale? I gave away all the ones I purchased from you. If so, will you post a direct link to your site?
Thank you.
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes! I hope they liked them. 🙂

Happy Saturday to you all. I binged on Netflix “Tidying Up” last night and Holy Cow! I am hooked. I cleaned my entire kitchen in the Marie Kondo method. My dresser is now neat as a pin -first time EVER. If you haven’t seen it-I cannot recommend it more. It is life changing.
I feel so much better already. Now-for the rest of the house…
cheers to you all.
PS: I was a Federal employee-but essential-(so I wouldn’t have even been able to take off-just not get a paycheck)-I feel your pain. So sorry…we love our federal employees!! I worked” inside the beltway” and in the field…WA DC can be crazy at times, but loved it. Hang on!
Brook Hart says
I have no clue about the show you mentioned but am on my way over to find it.
Gina says
What we are up to today… got rid of a twenty year old, heavy as heck tv and the same oven we have had forever. Tidying up over here and it feels great! Oven door shattered on millions of pieces over my rock garden as oven slid off hand cart. Had to shovel rocks and glass into a box, and yes, I salvaged the rocks!

Hi Mavis. I loved your quote by Eddie Cantor. My only though was, “Just how many folks out there remember who Eddie Cantor was?” 🙂
Tina says
It was a great day! Started a new routine that will be sustained “playing raquetteball with my husband!” We also wound down on laundry and chores leaving us ready for a fabulous start to a week!
