Hello Saturday!
Fall is in the air… can you feel it? We made our first fire in the woodstove this morning and now all I want to do is stay inside and drink a cup of hot apple cider and hang out on the couch. But I suppose I should get a few things done first…
On the list for today:
- Pack up orders and ship them on out
- Laundry, laundry, laundry
- Pull up tomatoes, basil and peppers
- Dye wool {perfect pumpkin color}
- Work on more Chicky’s Garden Kits
- In pajamas by 2 pm
- Copy cat Panera tomato soup and no knead bread/toast for linner
- Work on Halloween kitty rug
How about YOU? What are YOUR plans for today? Anything good?
Have a great weekend,
~Mavis

Tis the season for hot drinks! DIY Mulling Spice – Have you ever made a Crock Pot of hot apple cider? If not, you are missing out on one of the pleasures in life.
Plus, rather than spending a fortune on pre-assembled mulling spices, you can make your own and give the extras away as gifts. It’s win-win. Get the recipe HERE or Pin it for Later.
Did you find a good deal on pumpkins but you’re not sure what to do with them? Check out my post on the best pumpkin varieties for cooking and baking. There’s tons of good information.
And last but not least, Apple Pie Jam Bars– Enjoy these with a cup of tea in the morning and a scoop of ice cream in the evening–so versatile. {Pin for later}

My to do is to continue working on prepping our house to sell and move. The hubby has a new job starting at the end of October across the country and I am hoping the kids and I can move with him then, otherwise we will have to follow later. I also have decided to have a yard sale next Saturday, I need to drop weight and bulk since it looks like I will be doing the packing and moving myself (companies are booked way out), so I just need to continue getting all the stuff together and making decisions.

I made my spiced cider in a 20 cup coffee pot. Put the spices in the basket and let it perk. Dispense through the faucet with no ladle dripping mess.

Linda, that is brilliant!!!! Great for a holiday party/get-together. <3

I’ve just started following along here.
My list of things that I did today was:
harvest my 3 “special” plants
cut, clean, and bake a huge hubbard that has been curing on the deck for about 2wks, and had a bad spot on one side.
That was in preparation for making Mavis’s hubbard squash pie.
I think our first fire in the woodstove will probably be tomorrow. We call small, “warming up” fires smudges. No idea why…but you’ll here people at the store say “Chilly!”…”Yep!…had a smudge this morning!”

Hi Mel, how did they turn out. If a keeper, will you post the recipe? Please and thanks! Kathy
