UPDATE: Hey everyone, I was planning on doing the big reveal of my secret holiday project today but the perfectionist in me is just not ready to show you yet. I still need a little more time to finish up!!! I feel AWFUL about this but I am going to have to push back my big reveal until Friday, October 12th. I hope you understand. I’m so, so sorry.

I feel AWFUL about this!!! I am going to have to wait until Friday, October 12th. 🙁 I blame the perfectionist in me!!! Gaaa. I’m sorry.

No worries (from me, at least)! If it makes you feel better about holiday perfectionism, our neighbors added a porch to their house last year, so I painstakingly painted an ornament of their house for them with the new porch (in the snow, decorated for Christmas, with all their favorite neighborhood wildlife). But I didn’t realize their porch wasn’t done—they painted it and added fancy trim, and now the ornament doesn’t match! Drives me crazier than it really should!
Mavis Butterfield says
That would make me nuts too Mel!
Kara says
I forgive you. Xo

The cliff hanger is soooooo suspenseful! All my guesses have been denied. Can’t wait for the reveal.

Well, this is the perfect example that some of us need a life. LOL, I have gone down a list what the secret project could be. Still enjoy every episode of the transition to the New England lifestyle. I’m reading Martha’s Vineyard, Isle of Dreams by Susan Branch
She is one talented writer and I am loving it. Thanks for all your recommendations.

I am about half way through the book now but did have a hard time at the beginning because of Cliff, Cliff, Cliff. I knew it would get better though and I stayed up way too late last night reading it…. 🙂 I think I’m going to have to read her other 2 books when I’m finished.
Sue says
Yes, I’m going to read the the others also, I have always loved her art, just didn’t know much about her books until I read that you had checked this one out at the library. I’m going to buy another for a friend who is having a hard time and is on bed rest. She’s a fellow artist so she will like everything about Isle of Dreams, story, quotes, and art.

I enjoy this blog very much. But I stopped caring about THE BIG REVEAL about 147 teases ago!

NOOOOOOO! You’re killing me, Mavis! I guess I need to get a life, something other than living vicariously through you!
Really, though, I understand. This just gives me something else to look forward to.
Gail says
Nine months was several months too long for the big tease, and now another week is way beyond fair. Don’t you think we would have enjoyed following along your learning process during this entire year? You don’t have to always be better than your devoted readers in everything!
Lisa says
Seriously??? There are real issues in life and this is not one of them.
Mavis, take all the time you need. I’m curious too, but this surely will not ruin my week. I totally understand the desire for wanting your “project” to be the best it can be when you finally share it. Thanks for sharing your life with us daily and opening yourself up to critisism which fortunately doesn’t come your way too often.
Enjoy your day!!!

I have been duly chastised and I apologise, Mavis, for being too harsh. I was trying to lighten your load by saying that we don’t expect perfection. If you promise perfection on October 12, you’re making it unnecessarily hard on yourself. I enjoy your posts and wasn’t trying to compare this weeks postponement to serious issues in our world.

It’s all good…no worries.

Agree!!!

Hi, Mavis. I’m a writer and artist, and I totally understand wanting a creation to be as good as possible before putting it out there. 🙂 Plus I really love your personality. 🙂

I recently visited New England from Florida. My snowbird friend has a cottage on Plum Island, Newburyport, MA. She whisked me away to “Pickity Place” upon my arrival. It is the little red house from which the original Little Red Riding Hood children’s book was illustrated (1948 Little Golden Books). The cottage was built in 1786. It is now a restaurant with 3 sittings per day and you must make reservations. They use their own herbs in the food that they grow on the property. The food was delicious and I drank lavendar lemonade! It was so good! They have a drying house, gift shop, beautiful gardens to explore, a greenhouse and a room set up like Grandma’s bedroom inside the cottage from the book. The house itself is amazing to look at. It is in Mason, NH. http://www.pickityplace.com I thought this would be an interesting place in your travels as you don’t sound like you are too far from her area.
