Mavis,
No kidding. I would *love* to see you do a post on how you manage your time to get so much done. Your plans for today would take me a WEEK (or more)! Are things like cleaning the bathroom, paying the bills, working on the tax returns, mopping the floors, etc. so routine they don’t even make the day’s list? Not trying to pry into really personal details, just wondering what I’m doing wrong…
Elle says
Pauline, do a time diary for 1 week. Then evaluate where your waking hours go. Do you value what you’re doing with your time or can something stop? We all get the same 24hours/day…….it’s how we decide to use it that makes the difference. (I get the same question from my friends and this is the response I give).

I appreciate your comment as well as Jeanine’s below, and I suspect you are both correct. I have done a time-use diary in the (distant) past, and it was helpful. And I used to get up and get going earlier as well. I think perhaps I have fallen into a nonproductive combo of retirement flexibility and pandemic sloth, mixed with frustration about having some plans put on what feels like indefinite hold for the past two years. Doing a time-use diary sounds like a good start – perhaps coupled with a kick to my own posterior!

I can relate. I used to feel like I got so much more done when I worked full time. But, I have realized a lot of things weren’t getting done (exercise, quilt guild, etc) OR I took short cuts. I have been telling friends that everything takes longer due to the ‘well, if not done today it can always get done tomorrow’ attitude, but it does drive me nuts. This pandemic has thrown a wretch in so many plans it is hard to make plans anymore.

Some days I just can’t seem to get out of my own way. I especially liked your retirement and pandemic sloth cents. My thoughts exactly.

Pauline,
I can relate. I’m only 65 and it takes me longer to do tasks that once seemed easy. Give yourself a break. I’ve worked all my life and raised 2 very successful and well-rounded kids. I live for myself now. If I want to sleep in, I sleep in, if I want to be up at 6AM, then I am up at 6AM. I always make time in the morning for coffee and me. No running around and drinking my coffee on the way to work! It’s ok, you don’t have to be busy 24/7 – we were sold this idea.

I agree- with both that I can’t get a fraction of things like this done, and that I’d love to learn more! Inspiring!
Jeanine says
I would guess that Mavis gets so much done because she gets up early. I get more done in the day if I do. Also, if I don’t spend time on my iPad…that helps.
I’m off the the quilt show to demonstrate rug hooking…so best I get in gear!

I was actually wondering if the list for today is going to get 100% done, or if it’s an ongoing list of stuff that needs done. Because to get all those items done by noon…you must start at 4 am!

Bacon cheddar biscuits!?! Recipe, please!

I agree with Mavis getting up early helps, I only had one real goal today and that was my usual picking up donated flowers and delivering to Seniors that takes a good couple of hours after I make my HH his mocha and a coffee in the keep warm mug so he doesn’t have to get up to make it, take him the paper. I feed my chickens, open the greenhouses, After delivery, I made bfast, then friends turned up unexpectedly so that wasted 30 mins but was glad to see them. Picked up greens from our local co op for the chickens (they put the stuff they trim off the lettuce, fruit etc in a box for us chicken people so it is first come first served and I have 25 chickens to feed). Then today I adopted a momma hen and her 9 babies from the hen rescue as they needed a safe place for her. then to Home Depot for some pavers for under my planters, drop off more flowers, scarf down a sliver of tuna and a tiny bowl of beet salad. Now to do some legal writing that I have to get filed, Pick up my partners prescription, plant a load tulips that I was given which are at the end of their flowering so I plant them for next year in all my planters. Walk our friends dog (we are dog sitting) Juice 50 limes I was given, bag them up in one cup measures to freeze and bring out for our favourite cocktail when needed. Make dinner, more computer work then collapse into bed around 11pm. LOL I am tired just reading what I have done and will do today.
Diane says
Just curious, which cocktail? I love fruity drinks, especially if they are tasty minus the alcohol so can share with the kids.
TC says
It is a Caipirinha; I dilute mine with Kevita sparkling lime, mint probiotic drink (see below), then I can have two but it really is only one plus it is refreshing. LOL They have other flavours too.
Caipirinha is Brazil’s national cocktail, made with cachaça,(brazilian white rum) sugar, and lime. The drink is prepared by mixing the fruit and the sugar together, then adding the liquor.
Ingredients: 1 2/3 oz Cachaça, 2 Teaspoons brown sugar, Half a lime cut into 4 wedges
