I woke up thinking about all the tomatoes I put in the freezer whole. I was going to thaw them and make sauces on a cold winter day. Oops. Its almost Spring. I am doing sauces today.

We’re starting a another weekend of the storm debris cleanup. We took down the broken limbs of the pie cherry, one plum and one apple tree last evening along with a whole redbud and a whole pear tree. We have to process that material and then move on to two dogwoods, a couple of spruce, and a few of really old Italian Prune trees along the hedge row. I may try to bake some potatoes for lunch in the burn pile.

You and your family are hard workers…hoping your family is safe and your home intact…I am so sorry you lost so many wonderful fruit trees, a Redbud, two Dogwoods (darn) , in the storm…I love how your planning of baking foil potatoes in the burn pile…you could make enough to have with Sunday breakfast….You might try tossing some smores in double or triple layer foil into the mix…Hope you and your family enjoy the rest of your w/end… ps we have a frail, Italian Prune -it’s hard to find an Italian Prune sapling…Kindly, Chris Ann

On this, my least favorite day of the year, when we lose an hour of precious time, my HH, a hardworking local grocery store butcher, requested that on our our once-a-month Date Day, that we make coffee on a mountainside and see the spring melt waterfalls. I chose a precarious 8.3 mile loop trail in the PA Wilds that didn’t disappoint. After a very strenous hike, I did a load of laundry and made a mushroom spaghetti dinner to refuel, then we rented the latest episode of Resident Alien and enjoyed a slice of homemade apple pie from our local general store in Stonyfork, PA. Thanks so much for your stories! Came across your blog from a Rhubarb Jam recipe you posted on Pinterest several years ago when HH’s customer gifted him with a grocery bag full of Rhubarb and have been an avid reader ever since.
