I am cleaning and organizing kitchen cabinets today. And laundry of course. I have three college students home from college and a 7th grader so lots and lots of laundry-everyday! But I am so thankful they are healthy and at home with us, although cabin fever is truly starting with them. It is beautiful here in Alabama today so I hope to have some time outside this afternoon. And tonight I am cooking a big breakfast for supper-I am going to try biscuits from scratch tonight. We’ll see how it goes. 🙂

Yard work today! DH is going to get our riding mower up and going again. Lots to catch up on from winter. I’m also going to baby along my spinach, carrots, and beets I have in my raised beds and all my plants in my tiny greenhouse. I need to trim the ras berry canes and take out the old growth today. It’s beautiful today in Eastern Washington 🙂

Glad you only have rain, down south (on the NH/ME border) we woke up this morning to SNOW—which fortunately now has switched over to rain. Chicken chili sounds perfect for a day like today!

Nothing super exciting… Dh and Ds mowed the yard and front pasture. Dd made a bazillion loaves of banana bread with part of our overripe bananas. (The rest need frozen for smoothies!). And I spent a couple hrs picking dewberries (an early blackberry) on our property. I got prolly 10-12 cups’ worth today! And we have about 25 cups of them in the freezer! This afternoon dd and I will make some pie crusts, and then tonight or tomorrow we’ll make blackberry pie!! Yumminess!!! (Dh bought some vanilla ice cream to go with the pie!).
It’s on the warm side today…low 80’s, and tomorrow into Monday is supposed to bring severe storms, ugh. Mon and Tues we need to pick the dewberries along the pasture fence-line, and then back to where I picked today! The neighbors said there are some along our side pasture fence-line, too, but whew, idk that we will get ALL of these berries picked, lol!! We’ll let the birds and bunnies and whatever wild life get some of them! And whatever drops will make into more next yr!
Our regular blackberries will be almost non-existent this yr….they usually grow well along the road for us, but every three yrs the city cuts everything back to our fence-line, and we lose all the brambles for a yr. 🙁 Though the blackberries have the wickedest thorns!!! And the temps by the time they are ripe are in the 90’s and so so so hot and humid!!!
Btw, I can’t even tell you how many fruit trees and blueberry bushes we’ve lost over the past 8 yrs…but these wild berries grow like mad!!! Lol! And the blueberry bushes that HAVE made it are ripening even now….a few of the berries are just starting to blush with a faint blue! Can’t wait for those to be ready….though my pickers tend to eat more than they bring to me, lol!!!

We are still trying to get rid of the foot of snow we had earlier this week and expecting more tonight. Good thing we got our top soil put into our raised beds last Friday. Your yard is looking beautiful in the garden areas. We tried to hang lights on our pergola but it started raining – just prepping that beautiful soil for gardening!
