Hello Saturday!
On the agenda for today:
- Hang out in bed all day
- Eat cake
- Watch movies
That’s it. That’s my plan for today. It seems like a pretty solid one, don’t you think?
I’m so sore from working in the garden yesterday. There’s so much to do… And yet, I don’t feel like doing anything. Everyone needs a day off every once in a while, right?
Have a good one,
~Mavis

What kind of cake? Hanging out in bed sounds like you really overdid it! Take care my friend!

Chocolate! 🙂

Enjoy your day off! I call those kind of days “pajama day” and it usually involves being in my recliner all day crocheting (in my pj’s of course). A couple of years ago, one of my granddaughters spent the week with me and she decided she wanted a pajama day – that’s my girl!!

Sounds lovely, enjoy your day! I’m sorry it is because of over-doing it in the garden. Seems like it is an annual occurrence for those of us that love gardening. We forget after a long winter how to pace tasks out, as well as being overjoyed to get going again. My best tip is white Tiger balm ™.
Be well soon.

I did CPR and First Aid Certification this morning and went for a walk. Now I’m trying to decide which kind of chicken salad to make for dinner (classic tarragon or maple mustard).
Laura L. says
Both sound delish and I’d love your recipes for each, one if you can find the time, Mel. How have you and yours been doing? I hope all is well and life is treating you good.
Mel says
Thanks, Laura! We’re doing a bit better this week. I hope you’re doing well.
This is the chicken salad, but I skip the grapes and walnuts for no real reason, and I swap dill for tarragon. Tarragon is stronger, so I use a bit less. And if you’re like me, you’ll wander the yard for 5 or 6 minutes before you find where your husband planted the tarragon. https://www.thepioneerwoman.com/food-cooking/recipes/a9697/chicken-salad-the-way-i-like-it/
The maple mustard recipe was from King Arthur, but it was some sort of special feature recipe they have since unpublished (*shakes fist*). A good approximation is to use the above recipe but swap some of the lemon for Dijon mustard and swap the brown sugar for maple syrup, taste it, and adjust the quantities if needed.

Go Mel!

Thanks! It was an unusually productive day by my current standards 😉

I too am staying in bed!
I have a question about your garden seaweed mulch: do you have to rinse off the salt at all before covering your garden with it?
Mavis Butterfield says
I don’t. I just lay it down as is. 🙂

It’s Independent Bookstores Day AND Local Yarn Shop day so that was on our agenda today. Home to knit and hook. Too windy here on the Cape to do any yard work -phooey.

A question on the sea weed mulch: Does it decompose? Can you till it into the dirt at seasons’s end? I love the natural reuse. I bet it captures the rain and holds it saving the planet. Way to go!!!

After morning farm chores (goats, chickens, dog and cat care) I went to pick up my 4 flower bowls. Our school’s senior class does this for a fundraiser each spring and they are incredible. You have to move them to a larger container because they are so packed in the bowls otherwise they die off quickly. I learned the hard way, lol. After that I ran to the Bed Bath and Beyond about 30 miles away. I had a $300 gift card from my kids and found out that the last day to use gift cards there is May 8th. Unfortunately, all the BBB stores are closing :(. I spent my giftcard and then some but it was all stuff that needed to be bought. Now contemplating dinner.
