I need to clean the bathrooms, pack up some freezer meals, and peel, mince, and freeze the rest of our garlic from last year since it’s starting to sprout. We still have maybe 20 heads left, so I should probably also plan on smelling like garlic for the rest of the weekend. I suppose I also need to sew myself a mask so we can go grocery shopping on Tuesday now that the guidelines on that have changed.
Deborah says
Mel, the masks are fairly easy to sew. Pretty simple really. I’ve made quite a few for family, friends and a neighbor family of 5.

Yes, I just had to tweak the design because I can’t stand the elastic loops. I used ties instead, and it fits much better.

Mel –
Thank you for this comment. Good to know because the elastic has all sold out around here and I was wondering if anybody would mind ties. To know that they fit better is awesome as they don’t want people touching and re adjusting the masks.
Mel says
No problem. Here’s the pattern I used, except I just sewed a length of twill tape to each corner instead of doing the elastic. Fabric ties or ribbon would also work.

Once I got the top one tied correctly, I just left it tied so I can pull it on and off and only have to re-tie the bottom one. I skipped the nose wire because my glasses keep that part sealed to the bridge of my nose. I also skipped the filter pocket because I don’t have anything to use as a filter, but I did add some light fusible interfacing just for kicks.

I am Legend is a good movie! We’ve seen it a couple of times.

I made about 15 masks and am out of fabric-the issue with them is that they fog up glasses. I have found that anti-fog wipes work well.
I sent 10 to family in Brooklyn, it’s a sad time right now.

Mavis – I am trying to find the name of the potter who makes those wonderful coffee mugs. I’m sure its me but I can’t figure out how to search on your site. Can you please help?
