Hello Saturday!
Wind and rain is in the forecast for the next few days which is fine by me. After the marathon of garden chores the past few days, it will be nice to slow down and work on some indoor projects.
On the agenda for today:
- Paint wings on bee ornaments
- Clean out the guest room {I have guests coming at the end of the month!}
- Bake some chocolate chip cookies
- Make a batch of 8 Can Chicken Taco Soup in the CrockPot
- Start my squash seeds in pots
- Work on a new flag rug
- Go to bed early
How about YOU? What’s on YOUR list for today?
I hope you have a good one,
~Mavis
If you are growing zucchini this year, be sure to check out my list of 10 Companion Plants to Grow with Zucchini. Ahhh companion planting… It’s a beautiful thing! Higher yields, less work and maximizing your space. Could it get any better than that?

Today I hope to finish planting my flowers in pots, sow the peas and green beans in the garden, and work on clearing a space in the garage to store the wedding decorations. And a driving lesson for my son-ugggg. Teaching teens to drive is so nerve-wrecking!

I used to dread our weekend sessions until just that one time when we were “practicing” driving the circumference of our island on a two way street keeping an eye out for cars merging from their driveways. Suddenly a roof trellis truck that had been rerouted to this roadway was over the center line and headed straight towards us. There was nothing I could do for our son but to calmly watch the event unfold. He remained cool, swerved off the pavement yet kept one tire on the pavement to stabilize the car. We made it! I told him to pull over so we could catch our breaths, congratulating him profusely for his quick thinking and actions! When I asked how in the world he knew what to do in this situation and he smiled broadly and said,
“Video games!”
From that day on he earned a few more minutes of gaming time but really all he wants to do is drive!!!

I’ve been suffering from extreme fatigue and so today I’m just taking the day off. I was wondering, though, Mavis, how long have you been rug-hooking?
Mavis Butterfield says
About 25 years. I hope you feel better today.

Thank you for the recipe. My Dad absolutely loved KFC’s cole slaw! It was a definite favorite of his. I will make it on Father’s Day in his memory!
