Hello Saturday!
It looks like it’s going to be another beautiful day here in Mid-Coast Maine! Summer + No Rain = Lots of outside time. Oh my aching bones. I’m tired but I can feel myself getting stronger everyday. Plus, I’ve got a sweet farmers tan going on so that’s always fun too. 😉
On the agenda for today:
- Sand a few ornaments
- Plant lupine seeds {if I can find some larger containers}
- Sign up for a Historic New England membership
- Whip up a strawberry sheet shortcake and pop it in the freezer for later
- Supervise the HH as he moves a giant boulder
- Finish flag rug and start a new design
- Take a nap?
How about YOU? What’s on YOUR list for today?
I hope you have a good one,
~Mavis
Peach season is right around the corner and I don’t know about you, but I just love cracking open a jar of old fashioned peach preserves in the middle of winter. Note to self: Find some peaches!
And while we’re on the topic of peaches, did you know that peaches are one of the most popular fruits of artists to paint? Painting a peach can either show off or expose the lack of talent for a master painter. Have to get the fuzz just right. Who knew!
You can check out my 10 Fun Facts About Peaches to learn more.
In other news… I can across this kitchen photo while I was checking out one of John Bray’s listings in Port Isaac {a time consuming bad habit of mine} and something caught my eye. No, it wasn’t the tulips on the kitchen table, or the view or the open shelving, it was the 6 slice toaster on the counter!
Did you know you could buy such a thing? I didn’t. But seriously, I don’t think I could butter the toast before it went cold!

Mavis, it’s in England. They delight in warm beer and cold toast.

No knead honey oat bread is in second rise stage, soon to be popped in the oven. Nothing planned for rest of the day. Well, maybe a nap because sleep was elusive last night and all weekend chores were done by 6AM.

If one had several children a 6 slice toaster would be awesome! I have 2 boys. I do bulk batch pancakes and waffles and freeze them for breakfasts. We had a 4 slice toaster which was adequate. The problem was it was controlled by one lever and their were always arguments (half sleepy hungry boys…). I was actually happy when it stopped working (a $2 yard sale toaster, it lasted a good 5 years). Costo has a 4 slice with 2 levers and while I wouldn’t have gotten rid of a working toaster for it, I was so happy to buy it. Now everyone can toast their items to their own liking.

I made a batch of peach jam just yesterday. Safeway has peaches for $1.29 lb on an e-coupon Limit 3 lb
I bought a little over 3 lb. and it was the exact amount needed for the recipe in the pectin box.
It made 7- 8 oz. jars
I was going to make a peach salsa but didn’t because I would have to buy ingredients like red onion ($2.99 lb) cilantro and a few other things that I didnt have.

Get peaches when you can find them because a cold snap earlier in the year caused 80% of Georgia’s and 50% of South Carolina’s peach crops to fail. They’re going to be pricey this year I think.
Carol says
1) canner load of black beans (processing now)
2) laundry – the never ending battle
3) bake lemon pudding cake
4) bake peanut butter cookies
5) cook a pot of chili for dinner and freezer
6) cook a pound of taco meat for this week’s lunches
7) drink coffee and read my book
It’s going to be an “in the kitchen!” day for the most part. Was supposed to be a hill the potatoes day but it rained this morning so too muddy to rake in the garden. It overcast so a good day to hang around food.

That toaster price converts to $346 U.S. dollars??!!!! Maybe I would pay that if it did not allow any crumbs to fall to the counter; but if they get gypsy moths, that is $346 into the dumpster.
