Hello Saturday!
Poor Lucy. This is her least favorite time of year. All the big booms and noise from the fireworks really upsets her. Plus I think a big thunderstorm is on the way later this morning. 🙁
On the agenda for today:
- Pack up orders and mail them off {no mail on Monday}.
- Make beans and rice or nachos for linner.
- Plant round 3 of green bean, zucchini and cabbage seeds
- Work on my new pumpkin and crows rug. {I haven’t been able to get any hooking time in the past few days and I’m behind schedule}.
- Snuggle with the puggle.
How about YOU? What are YOUR plans for today? Is this time of year a hard one for your dogs too?
Have a good one,
~Mavis

Looks like the Sweet Sue chicken has gone off sale. For me it’s showing at 36.99. Rats. Sorry I missed that deal 🙁 but thanks for posting.

In the heyday of couponing I got two cases of canned chicken for .24 a can. Those were the days!

I dread the Fourth of July fireworks and gun shots as my dog Trixie wants under the covers and shakes – she is so frightened. I feel so sorry for her. Poor Lucy!
Emily says
It’s too late for this year, but it might be worth chatting with Lucy’s vet about options for the fourth going forward. There are some great situational anxiety meds for dogs to help them through these confusing and loud events.

One of my dogs is horribly frightened of loud noises. I make a spot for her between my husband and turn the old noisy vintage fan I have on to help drown out the noise. That seems to help her quite a bit.

Glad to help with the chicken deal, Mavis! That’s the bad part about good buys like this — they sell out FAST. Hopefully you and others got some before it closed out.
I’m a big fan of Amazon Warehouse’s grocery section, and check it regularly.

(Now I should go look at that tuna deal…)

We picked two 5 gallon buckets of peas this morning. The rest of the day will be spent processing these to freeze.
Our dog is old enough that her hearing is going and she doesn’t see to hear any of the fireworks – one benefit to aging

Liquid Benadryl helps. Two of our dogs don’t like loud noises either. They are a little bigger than Lucy. You might check with the vet before giving her any to see if it OK for her and how much to give her. It calms them down.

My sweet dog has spent most of the day in my lap due to sporadic firecrackers being set off in the neighborhood. The big event is tonight and I wish there was someplace to get away from them. The next few days will be miserable for him.

Planted more tomatoes. Need to pull out the corn and plant okra. Delivered our daughter’s birthday present, a succulent planter made from a hollowed out stump that my husband kindly hollowed out.
Martina says
Have you thought of getting Lucy a ThunderShirt? I bought one for Kippy that she wears as needed (depends on how many neighbors are setting off firecrackers) has helped.

Spent the day driving 9 hours (600 miles – round trip) to return the visiting granddaughter to her parents. The last 5 miles of our trip we hit a horrific storm – rained so hard you could barely see to drive. We made it home and got soaked running from the car into the house. Glad to be home and in my pajamas!

Hi Mavis, such a sad face on poor Lucy. We don’t get any fireworks here for our July 1st. But had a massive thunder/lightening rainstorm last night. One of our dogs, a Great Pyrenees barked continuously for two hours, another one a poodle/? (rescue) mix just shook and panted. The others just snoozed. We were just talking about the ThunderShirt. Or ask our Vet about meds. One is 150 lbs, the other 18 lbs, so we need some guidance regarding dosage. It’s difficult to watch them suffer and we get a lot of loud storms out here. Enjoy your Sunday.

YES! for all of us that have Fur Babies, the day of, the days leading to, and days after the fireworks are hard on the poor little doggies! Lots of great suggestions for keeping your babies in check!
