Cold Mountain is a great movie, but its hard to get past the accents. I’m from SC and live in the mountains of NC now and hearing two Aussies speak Southern hills, as we call it, is funny. Doesn’t take away from the movie for anyone outside the South, I wouldn’t think.
Also, at the time, NC was a huge state for film and TV shows. Nell, starring Jodie Foster and Liam Nelson was filmed less than an hour away as was Dirty Dancing. However, Cold Mountain was filmed in Romania!! This was a huge controversy here in NC when the decision was made because it would have pumped millions into WNC.
Anyhow, totally worth the watch..

Hello Jennifer and Paula-fellow North Carolinians! Lived in Charlotte 20 years before heading east to the Outer Banks.
I had the same problem re: accents in Knives Out. Daniel Craig just couldn’t quite “get” the southern accent, but great movie just the same 🙂

Dried beans rock! Per your advice I started buying the 20 pound bags of pinto, black and garbanzo beans at Costco. More money saved. My best pandemic shutdown purchase was an Instapot to cook my beans. They are ready in 1 hour with no soaking and no mess. Love it.

Hi Mavis! Since we are baking here on the NC Coast with the heat index in triple digits, I checked out your linked post on ways to stay cool. They are all still appropriate. I was just thinking that you wrote the post 5 years ago, and maybe 4 houses ago?? LOL. Glad you’ve found your forever home now. I concur that it’s hard to beat living on the water, which is another way to help keep cool!
