Quote of the Day “Do not anticipate trouble or worry about what will happen. Keep it in the sunlight.”
Benjamin Franklin
I don’t know about you, but I think Lucy is ready for the weekend. Do you have any exciting plans yet? The Girl will be running 20 miles with a friend and I’ll be checking out a new pastry shop. Sounds about even, right? 😉 Oh, and if anyone knows the best way to avoid the tolls in NYC, I’d love to hear about it. I’d love not to have to shell out $200 as I make my way up the east coast.
Have a great thursday everyone,
♥ Mavis

Hi Mavis,
I wanted to give you a heads up on a bakery in Mystic CT if you are heading up the east coast. It is Sift (http://www.siftbakeshopmystic.com/) and the chef is on a Food Network show on March 19th. I have not been there but if I am in the area I will check it out. Enjoy your trip!
Kathie 🙂
Mavis Butterfield says
OH I LOVE YOU. I just put it on our list!!! I’ll be picking up a dessert there on the way to Heather’s house. 🙂 Thank you.
Kathie S. says
Anytime! Let us know what bakeries you visit and what you thought of them after your trip. 🙂
Mavis Butterfield says
Will do.
Delores says
Have a great trip!
Not sure if this will help, but have you tried EZpass? You have to pay for it, but I think it is less than all the tolls, plus you get into the less crowded lanes.
I plan on getting one the next time we head to Philly (from NC).
Mavis Butterfield says
I don’t have one. We have Go2Go in Washington but I don’t think it would work. I should look into it. Thanks!
Cheryl says
We have a EZ pass that we use from Butler, PA till near Lancaster and do save enough that it makes it very worthwhile. Cheryl

Heading to London for spring break. Anyone have suggestions for places,to eat or cool places to see?
Mavis Butterfield says
Bea’s of Bloomsbury for a casual high tea, Tower of London, the Food Halls at Harrods, Paul Cafe for a lemon tart or chocolate croissant. If the weather in nice {not raining} a walk in Kensington gardens or Hyde Park. And last but not least… take the tube to Kew gardens. It’s lovely!
Jeanie says
You could spend a whole day at Westminster Abbey. Take the audio tour…super interesting.
I know it is touristy but I loved the on/off buses. Because you sit up high, you get a good overview of each area and can jump on and off multiple times to explore or ride. I think the ticket is also good for a boat ride on the Thames.
Grab a quick breakfast, lunch or dinner on the go from Pret a Manger’. Super fresh food and reasonable prices. They are in many locations including Heathrow.
The Natural History Museum is incredibly neat and free so is the British Museum.
Hatchards Bookstore is a must if you are a reader. Great bookstore and it has the Queen’s stamp of approval also.
Leadenhall Covered Market is neat and many Harry Potter Diagon Alley scenes were filmed here.
London is one of my favorite destinations.
paula says
Go to the British Museum. It’s my all time favorite museum and it’s free!

Tolls:
1. Plot your travel path on map quest
2. Select the “no toll road” feature
3. It will give you an alternate route.
I have done this a couple times on the east coast. It added a negligible amount of time, but the cost savings and traffic avoidance were worth it.
Patty P says
If you are looking to avoid toll roads in the state of NY there are plenty of options. I’m not so familiar with NYC tolls though…the one time that I had to go to Long Island for a wedding I just paid the bridge tolls. The thruway saves you time most times though…I have to travel from WNY to Albany on Saturday and will be going on the thruway for time’s sake.
