Hello and happy tuesday! The HH has this week off so Lucy is getting in lots of extra snuggle time and she is loving it. 😉 That dog. She is so spoiled!!! In other furry news…. The Girl and I were out shopping for stocking stuffers for Lucy when we happened upon a rescue pet adoption at Mud Bay. We fell in love with the cutest little pup and are now trying to convince the HH that Lucy needs a BFF. What do you think? Do you own more than one dog? She’s pretty spoiled so we’re not sure.
Well, I hope you have a wonderful day. Stay warm and bundle up! It’s cold outside.
♥ Mavis

Mavis, I have had 2 Doodles for 4 years now, and they are my first dogs ever (in my 40s!). I bought one, and after seeing him play with a neighbor’s dog for an hour, I immediately found a permanent playmate. I have never regretted it, and I always urge potential dog owners to opt for 2 instead of 1. They are pack animals, happier in groups, and just like having 2 kids instead of 1, you just do all the same things at the same time (walk them together, feed them together, play together, train together). HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Would be a fun Christmas memory! Lesley in the midwest

I couldn’t agree more! I went years with only one dog, and now regret not getting another sooner. They’re much happier with a little companion.

Hey Mavis,
We adopted a puppy for Christmas this year, I’ve been working on my husband since we adopted our first fur baby three and a half years ago. New puppy = mess and accidents, I think we got used to not having those problems but overall, our puppy is worth it, she has our hearts already and has been so good for our first dog. They are getting along so well already and having a companion to play is the best thing for them, in my opinion anyways. Plus giving a home to an animal is great way to help your community. Merry Christmas!
Sherry says
We were devastated early this year having to say goodbye to our Max. We now have two boys who came to us months apart from the same rescue in TX. (We’re in CT) One is 15 months old, the other is 7 months, so they can get pretty rowdy at times, but they are great together. I would recommend a meet up with potential new pup since Lucy is an only dog, which most rescues should require before agreeing to adoption anyway. See how she feels about having another dog around. Like i said, they can get pretty rowdy in the house at times, and although our yard is fenced in we never leave them out unattended because we never know what kind of trouble they will get into! It is definitely worth it, we love them so much!
Lisa L says
Personally, if you have the means to take care of them and you want more, you can never have too many dogs.
Mrs. C. says
I have 4. They love it, but I recommend that whatever dog you get be of similar size and temperament as Lucy. We rescued a pup 3 months ago – she was four weeks old. Long story, but there’s a very good reason dogs are not separated from their litters until about 8 weeks. At any rate, she is significantly higher energy than most pups because of her breed, and at 4 months she is double the weight of our other dogs. Play time requires close supervision so no one gets hurt.
Mavis Butterfield says
The one we have in mind is MUCH calmer than Lucy, about half the size and around the same age. The dog, she is so sweet…. but I wonder if Lucy, who is really high energy would just be too much for her.
Mrs. C. says
Lucy looks and sounds like what I would consider to be a “normal” dog. You haven’t seen high energy until you get coon hounds, border collies, and retrievers. The level of chaos is insane. Take Lucy to meet her, first.
Em says
I have two dogs. The only negative to me is increased cost: food; heart worm, tick, and flea preventative; check-ups; and boarding (if you need to do that while traveling) in my case. But they are worth it.
Ananda says
If you’re already considering it, there’s not really any going back:) And that’s awesome! We thought our golden needed a pal so we adopted an 8 week old spit-fire from our local humane society. Holy crap, we didn’t know how much work a puppy was until we got Dazy. That was 8 years ago and that dog makes me smile or laugh out loud every.single.day! She’s crazy, but a joy, and bring so much fun to our lives!
Linda says
Mavis, go for it. I have two German Shepherds, both in need of a home and a rescued beagle (beagles want to run all the time so that meant an in-ground fence). They are all best friends and keep each other entertained. The other reason to have more than one dog is that it makes losing one a little easier. Nothing can remove the pain of losing a best friend, but another family pet helps ease it a little. Good luck, and keep us all informed.
Carrie says
I grew up in a two dog house. As an adult I had one boxer for 10 years (she died in 2015 suddenly) and I was completely heartbroken. I think if I had a second dog it would have made it easier on me. I felt so alone without her. It took me a year and a half to adopt another dog. She is 6 months old and a total handful and the complete opposite of my last dog. She loves other dogs and we go on puppy play dates once a week to socialize her. I would get another dog but I cannot afford the vet bills, meds, food and treats right now. Maybe when she’s grown up some and I get a raise I’ll be able to adopt another. 😉
I’ve been thinking about fostering dogs instead. Most organizations take care of the food and vet bills and you just have to give them love and some training. I’ve also considering adopting a kitten but the hubs put his foot down (he isn’t too fond of the puppy either!). I am secretly hoping a kitty shows up at our door – that’s how we got our last cat!
Heather says
That’s how we got our cat, Scout. She’s 17 now. I hope Santa drops a pretty kitten for you.

I have had dogs all of my married life, almost 30 yrs, & we’ve always had more than one. All of our dogs were outside dogs until we got a black lab for our son when he was 10. She LIVED with us, going everywhere…even vacations. We still had our outside dogs & she had lots of play time with them.
Then my adult son gave his girlfriend a Yorkie for her birthday. We ended up keeping her for a year or so (while they got engaged, got married & finally got a house). Our lab & her Yorkie were best friends.
When the kids took the Yorkie I decided I needed a small dog. I’d never had one before & didn’t realize just how sweet they could be. So my husband gave me a Morkie as an empty nest gift! I’ve had her over 2 yrs now. Initially she had our lab Daisy as a surrogate mom & best pal. After our lab died we decided to just keep one dog inside.
We’re getting older, the Morkie does NOT shed! & we do still have one large dog outside all the time. My Maggie gets lots of time with me because I’m home most of the time & we dog sit our kids’ Yorkie often.
If I were working I’d consider another dog but with all the dog visits she gets from family I like the lower stress & cleaner house of just one dog.
Cindi says
We have always had two dogs (and sometimes three.) They keep each other company when we are away, and two are almost as easy to handle as one. And twice the love! If you can afford it, I say go for it. There will be jealousy issues sometimes, but they will learn to get along and to love each other.
Julie says
All these comments really warm my heart! I love how much everyone loves their dogs and how much joy they bring.
Amy says
I have three small dogs. The more the merrier! Life is better with dogs.
Nicole says
We have had up to three dogs at a time all different ages and sizes. We will always have more than one! They play so well together. We even have the neighbors dogs over to play all the time which can get up to 7 dogs raging in size from a chihuahua to a German Shepard.
