A big high five to The Girl Who Thinks She’s a Bird for rockin’ her first term on the west coast. She is lovin’ her new school and ended up with 3 A’s and 1 A- {which she is totally ticked off about}. Her reward? A giant 4 pound bar of chocolate from Trader Joe’s. 😉
Oh, and sorry for the delay on getting the deals up this morning. I stepped away from my computer for a second and when I came back WordPress had decided to update my site. Good times.
Hey, it’s the weekend. Go have some fun and stay safe.

Hi Mavis,
You definitely will want to read Winter Garden. It’s set in Washington State and Russia ( in flashbacks). I liked it as much as The nightingale.

I’m an avid reader, mostly period historical genre, but this one caught my eye. I just ordered it from Amazon.

As the parent of a high school senior, I would love to hear more about the Girl’s college experience and the decision to transfer to a different college. I know you said you would share more about this transition, but then life happened and I either missed it on my end or it didn’t make it to a post.
I am curious because I am working with my son to help him make a “great fit” college decision to hopefully avoid the need to switch in the future. Just interested in what happened so we can maybe learn from the experience.
Thank you and Happy New Year!

I’ll probably do a whole post about it in the future. There were a lot of “smaller” reasons why she decided to transfer but the big one was that she decided she wanted to get a master’s degree. Which, wasn’t on our radar really in the beginning. And that costs a lot of money. We sat down and figured out that if she switched to a school closer to home, she would be able to save quite a bit and then be able to use her college money to pay for it. It was really her choice in the end, but I think it was definitely the right one to make.

Mavis, Most everyone I know was able to secure some sort of financial aid for grad school. I paid nothing for mine, and I didn’t take out loans. I worked as a Research Assistant and as a Teaching Assistant. Lots of opportunities for grants, etc. Good for her!!

Thanks for the update. We are working hard to help our son figure out the best place for him without going broke (him or us!). He just received a full ride to a great school in the Midwest which would help a lot. He was not nearly as excited about that as we were, lol.
In our day, you didn’t have to mortgage your future to get a degree (even a masters), but it feels very different these days (or maybe I am just old!). Want to make good financial decisions early in your life to avoid playing catch-up later in life. Start with sound footing and all that.
I think many of your readers would love to hear more, maybe even from the Girl herself! Woah. Ground breaking stuff right there….

Way to go Girl! That’s an awesome reward!

Good job, Girl! I tell my daughters to “Work hard and make good choices!” Sounds like you are doing just that. Congratulations!
Robin in SoCal says
Congrats to your girl.
