On Sunday The Duck Lady and I ventured out and into the big city to check out the Maker’s Market at Thompson Point.Fall foliage is in full swing here in Maine and all the color and leaves along the road were stunning.
I had assumed the Maker’s Market would be packed with arts and crafts vendors and maybe a few food stalls, but when we got there, we were both a little surprised with what we saw at the different booths.
There were a couple of really nice stalls, a couple of empty ones, soap and pottery stalls, several vendors selling used clothing and there were even people selling body shaped candles and Anderson Windows was there too.
We bought sandwiches and a pint of apple cider, ate and then moved on.
We stopped by Trader Joe’s.
And found the weiner mobile.
And then walked around Whole Paycheck and looked at the prices on things.
$15.99 a pound for sliced turkey. Wowza. Maybe I need to leave the farm more often because big city living is expensive!
We ogled the baked goods.
And were surprised there was a DIY bread slicer out for people to use.
And then we stopped by Walmart so The Duck Lady could stock up on canning jars.
But then left {empty handed} when we noticed the self checkout line was 25 people deep!
And we stopped by Frosty’s and bought the last of the coconut donuts and walked around downtown Brunswick before going home.
It’s funny. As you get older, sometimes you go places and come home with a treasure. But more often than not, you just end up coming home after a 6 hour adventure empty handed and are like… eh, I think I’ve seen it all.
Home. I think I like it here best.

Agree…East, west, home is best.

Let the Duck Lady know she can order her jars from Walmart online. Same price you pay in the store, and delivered to your door. My experience is that Walmart does an exceptional job with packing their customer orders. Yet another way to not have to leave home 🙂

When I was younger, I would have been the same way – had to check it all out. Now, I’m happy to sit with DH in McDonald’s sipping a Diet Coke for hours while he plays with Spotify on his IPad and I read on my Kindle. Y’all, this is McDonald’s in NC, it’s great for people watching when the book gets boring. Plus, if we need a nosh, pull up the app on my phone and get a large fry for $1 – good every day through the end of the year. 😉

Those prices look quite high. I would not pay them but learn how to make things myself.

I’m curious as what you’re all paying for mason jars at your local charity shops. I just paid 49 cents. That’s up from 20 cents pre covid. PNW here.

I wish they were that cheap here- Eastern Pennsylvania. Most of the second hand shops are at least $1.00 per jar, with stores like Goodwill charging $2.00 per jar. It’s crazy.

I’m so excited to see your photo of “The Maine Birthday Book”!! The illustrator is a family friend and such a lovely lady!

Did you get a weiner whistle from the Weinermobile team? We still have a few but
I’m not sure if they’re from my childhood, my kids, or my grandkids.

Interesting picture of the crafts done with driftwood… and you have a whole box full!

Looks like a good day.

Love the quilt jacket.
The price of eggs made my eyes water. Makes me appreciate my chickens even more!! Even with feed costs and the price of heating the coop when it gets below zero, my eggs are cheaper than that. I know farmers have other costs but I would have to buy industrial eggs because we eat a lot of eggs and I could not afford to pay that much for a dozen. Gald for the farmer than someone can.

Is it wrong that my favorite photo in this post is of Lucy? I just love her to pieces!

Columbus, Ohio Wal-Mart self checkout stretched through a maze, then half way across the huge register area… maybe 40-50 people and they had one cashier at one other isle at 7:30 pm on a Tuesday. Ridiculous!
My motto is more adventures, less stuff. Coming home with nothing is awesome.

Loved…Whole Paycheck!

When we go out, it’s usually about the adventure. I really don’t want to accumulate more “stuff”, unless something truly special.

I live in a big city and the prices at Whole Foods here are a lot less than what you saw. Weird. Maybe because there’s more competition?
Trader Joe’s is the best place to buy houseplants. They’re always cheap, healthy and pest-free, unlike the nurseries and home improvement stores in my area.
