You know that old saying… Half the fun is getting there? Yeah well, I think Heather and I did a smashing job of proving that theory. She picked me up around 9 am on Friday morning and the rest… The rest was a bit of a blur… Thank goodness for camera phones, that’s all I’ve got to say.
Fuel for the road. Breakfast from Maple’s.
Our first second stop was one of my favorite little thrift stores in Freeport. We didn’t find anything on this shopping trip, but I always make sure and stop by anytime I’m near Freeport because…. you never know. 😉
Our next stop was {I think} the Brunswick, Maine Salvation Army.
Heather bought a bunch of glass pieces for some glass flowers she’ll be making later this summer.
Every time we passed by a large woodpile:
Heather: Oh that’s a niiiiiiiice woodpile.
Heather drove {the entire way} while I made tomato pin cushions. The best friends, are friends that drive. Have I said that before? 🙂
We stopped at Alewives Fabric store {post coming soon} so Heather could pick up some material for a baby blanket to make for her sister.
Maine winter hours… People from away just wouldn’t understand. 😉
Pine Tree Yarns in Damariscotta.
Many of the rugs on display were a mix of wool and yarn. Very interesting!
Checking out antique snow shovels at {one of ten million} antique stores along the way. Can you imagine shoveling snow with this wooden contraption? Back in the day one must have had a few extra laying around just in case the wooden handle broke or something.
Eating salads {from Treats} in a random parking lot alongside the road because we were getting hangry. {Why is it road trips are so exhausting?}
I don’t even remember this… but there’s a photo so it must have happened, right?
Loading up on tea and THE BEST APPLE PIE on the planet earth at Dot’s in Lincolnville.
One of many Popsicle stick pieces of art we saw along the way.
Guess how much they were asking for this fine piece of Americana?
$145!!! And that was on the low end. I also found a box that was priced at $250 and all I could think about was my friend JJ’s son and how much he loves creating things with Popsicle sticks and toothpicks! JJ… get that kid a few boxes and show him this picture please!
Second to last stop of the day.
So basically a drive that should have taken us 4 hours… Took us over 10 hours because of all the pit stops and u-turns. We didn’t want to miss anything.
Road trips {and pastries}. They’re the best!
Have a wonderful day everyone, I’m headed back to bed.

I saw the box and was like, “I gotta show that to Nicholas!” and then I scrolled down and read the rest, haha! Will definitely be showing him when I get home from work, (er, procrastinating….)!

Girlfriends having fun ! I love it! Whenever I get together with some of my girlfriends, that’s what we do…thrift stores, yarn stores, antique stores, and lunch. And like you say, the trip can take hours. While husbands seem to just want to get to the destination. I’ve made my husband stop at places that later his tells me he enjoyed. I love history…so sometimes it’s like arm twisting, but we always feel rewarded with the experience. I’m ready for a road trip…but alias, we have other priorities right now. Thank you for sharing your fun and funny roadtrip.

I noticed what appears to be a sewing machine packed in the car. Will there be sewing on this adventure? I often take my machine with me. I don’t have it with me now and wish I did.. I have been teaching my Girl Scouts to sew on the machine. Some are doing quite well and others are not quite the natural.

What a fun trip! Good for you to get away from the kitchen and tile. Hope it got done and it looks good and you’re both happy with it.
Would love to see what Heather does with the glass finds. Any chance she would do another guest post sometime?

Yes! She said she would do a picture tutorial when she makes the glass flowers. 🙂

Love glass flowers and the one she showed will be beautiful! St. Vincent dePaul is my favorite thrift store in my area, but of course, I always hit them all! Love thrifting and it’s even better with friends.
