I took your advise, and decided not to take any chances with my rosemary bush this winter.
This morning I dug her up, and moved Miss Rosemary to the greenhouse. I’m hoping as long as I can remember to water her, she will survive the winter, thus saving me a few bucks when it comes time to plant next years garden. We’ll see.
I’ve also decided on my weekend garden project; moving my entire herb garden.
I’ve come to the conclusion that although I like growing herbs, so much of the plants go to waste every year because I simply don’t harvest them all. Not even half. Which normally wouldn’t be a problem, but the 8′ x 4′ raised bed of herbs is sitting on some prime real estate in my garden, and next year I’ll really need to maximize every inch of my garden space if I’m going t0 reach my 2013 garden goal.
So where am I going to move the herb garden to?
The sides {and back} of the greenhouse. Which of course means I’ll have to move the strawberries I planted alongside the greenhouse this year. But that’s okay, I’m sure I’m not the first person on earth to plant something and then change their mind on where they want it planted.
Hi Ho, Hi Ho, Off to the garden I go!
Peace Out Girl Scouts, I hope you have a lovely weekend, no matter what your plans are.

Have you ever tried Herb Scissors before? They’re pretty awesome. I own a pair and use them all the time. Amazon has these herb scissors currently in stock if you want to take a peek.

I heard you could do the same with Pepper plants. Bring them inside over the winter and let them fall back. Water them very basically to keep them alive, then replant them in the spring and they will start producing earlier and heavier. I’m gonna try it!!
But now I wonder if I should try my herbs as well??

Mavis,
I’m curious. What is your 2013 garden goal? (I personally think that the kale and brussels sprouts will put you over the top for this year!) Are you adding more raised beds or greenhouse space?
Inquiring minds….

Dang! There isn’t a restaurant in town that would trade herbs for gift certificates??

I never thought of that! Thanks Erin.

I also harvest maybe 1/3 of my herbs through out the year but they over winter nicely here and they bring a lot of bees into my garden so I let them stay. I like your weekend project idea can’t wait to see the end result.

I agree, the bees love the herbs. How did your dinner go with the drum line?

I LOVE your blog. I really enjoy everything & look forward to reading it. I’m especially fond of chickens.
Looking at your Brussel Sprouts – try pulling the lower 1/3 leaves off the plants (not all of them). Just bend them down & they snap off. Makes the plants put more energy into the sprouts. Mine last year overwintered well and I was pulling off sprouts into springtime!
