Yesterday for date day, the HH and I decided to check out Oysterhead Pizza in Damariscotta, Maine for lunch. And let me tell you Bob, we were not disappointed!
We hadn’t even heard of Oysterhead Pizza before until we spotted their beautiful wood fired bagels in Rising Tide Co-Op a few weeks ago for the first time and had to buy some as a special treat for Valentine’s Day.
Chewy and airy and just enough of a crunch when you bite into a toasted one. They were the best bagels we’ve ever tasted.
They were so good, we had to find out more about them and so I went online to see where the bagel shop was, only to find out it wasn’t a bagel shop that sold them, but a pizza place!
A pizza place that only sold their bagels on Saturdays and Sundays {and we were there on a Thursday! 🙁
So we decided to have ourselves a proper date and a sit down meal instead of loading up on more bagels.
First course… Wood fired brussels sprouts. The sprouts were spiced with dill, smoked paprika, sumac and a bunch of other secret spices. They were pretty magical if you ask me.
After the brussel sprouts we tried their pepperoni pizza.
It was a winner!
And then, to finish things off, I told the HH we needed to try the wood roasted beignets sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. I’m not sure what was in the dipping sauce, but the beignets were a home run.
And just like that, we’ve found our new favorite pizza place here in Mid-Coast Maine. And to think we found it because of a good looking bagel in a grocery store. Crazy.
Oysterhead Pizza, it’s just another reason to visit the great state of Maine. 🙂
Have a great weekend everyone,

Wood fired pizza is my favorite! Since we moved last year, I haven’t been able to find one as everything here that is not chain sells New York style pizza. I might just have to have a masonry pizza oven built in the backyard in the future.

We built a wood-fired pizza oven out of cob last year based on the series by the blog The Art of Doing Stuff. It turned out great (we also bought the book she recommended) and we had lots of really fun gatherings where everyone got to make a little personal pizza 🙂 Highly recommend a backyard pizza oven!

We found out about Oysterhead from our step daughter who lives near Damariscotta. I am Brooklyn born & raised & know good pizza. This is awesome pizza, not your ordinary Italian pizza. The chef truly creates amazing pizza that wakes up your palate.
Happy to say we now call Maine home.

I think Oysterhead Pizza is about the best name I’ve ever heard for a pizza place!! I would’ve gobbled those Brussels sprouts right up, mani love those things.
