Please post a picture of your Turkey rug when you complete it!! It looks overwhelming to me as I hook my little pumpkin rug š
Have you ever made a video of yourself rug hooking? I would love to see how you do it as I am self taught and struggle holding it (even though it is in a hoop)
Have a fun day and hope you get a lot done on your rug!!

I am wondering how you decide on the dates to hook on your rugs. Are they of any significance or are they just random dates. They are beautiful pieces and you have a great talent.
Elise in the SF Bay Area says
Yes, me too! I have even googled some of the dates, but haven’t found anything that made sense…
Mavis Butterfield says
90% of the time the dates are totally random… I just like how the numbers look together when hooked. The other 10% of the time the number means something to me. š Not really an exciting answer, I know. š

Iām working on the same rug…turkey body is done, not the head. Love your color choice for the flowers. Have you already done this pattern before? Keep progression pictures coming!
Mavis Butterfield says
Yes, I love this pattern. š
janeen says
love the turkey, do you have a kit for that one?
Mavis Butterfield says
No, unfortunately it’s not my pattern.

Do you cut your wool strips by hand with a rotary blade or use some other tool to get them even and save time? Just curious.
Your pj day looks so much more fun than pandemic homeschooling! Now that it’s the weekend, I’m thinking of trying something new and crafty– just not quite sure how to get started.
Mavis Butterfield says
Hi Rosie,
I cut my wool strips by hand with a rotary blade. š Rug hooking is pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
Rosie says
Thanks for the info. I’ve heard of tools specific for the job that do multiple strips at once, but you seem pretty prolific so if a rotary cutter is good enough for you, it’s gonna be fine for me just starting out.
