There are so many projects I want to finish before my self-imposed April 1st deadline, it can be over whelming at times. I am currently dividing my time between 9 garden projects. When April 1st rolls around, I want to dedicate my time to growing vegetables, not garden projects.
For me, growing vegetables is all fun and games. All the other stuff like weeding, clearing brush, spreading mulch, pruning and digging up dead plants is boring. All I really want to do is grow vegetables and play with the chickens.
If I don’t finish the projects or at least get everything the way I want it before vegetable season, it won’t get done. Or if it does, it will only because I had to ask the HH to do it for me. And well, he’d just go on and on about how we should move to a condo so we wouldn’t have to do yard work in the first place.
But I don’t want to live in a condo.
Which is why I’m trying to get all the tedious projects out-of-the-way asap.
Yesterday I spent several hours raking up old bark, loading it into a wheelbarrow and hauling it to the back yard. After that was done, I planted flowers. Periwinkle to be exact.
I talked the HH into letting me plant the entire front area {less the grass} with periwinkle. Why is this a good thing? Well, not only does periwinkle bloom beautiful blue flowers in both the spring and the fall, but in about 2 years the periwinkle will cover the entire barked area in front of our property. Once this happens… I WILL NEVER HAVE TO SPREAD BARK IN THE FRONT YARD AGAIN.
Pretty smart if you ask me!
Peace out Girl Scouts, I’m off to go play in the dirt. Have a great day!

I love Alyssum (carpet of snow) for a ground cover. It smells like honey!

Perwinkle is a dream come true! I love it! I have some under a tree in one of our flowerbeds, nothing would grow over those big roots…except periwinkle! Good luck with your gardening projects!

🙂 Plus it is so easy to maintain. Yay! Another periwinkle lover.
